  3. The Control menu provides access to printer control commands.
  4.  
  5. eReset
  6.  
  7. This command performs a printer reset. Any temporary fonts and
  8. macros are deleted and any partial pages of data which may have
  9. been received by the printer are printed.
  10.  
  11. fSelf-Test
  12.  
  13. This command performs a printer self-test. During the test, the
  14. printer will check its internal electronics. This test usually
  15. takes approximately 30 seconds. Depending on the model of LaserJet
  16. being used, a printing test might be performed which would
  17. generate printed output.
  18.  
  19. gEject
  20.  
  21. This command causes any partial pages of data which may have been
  22. received by the printer to be printed. If none is available, an
  23. empty page is printed.
  24.  
  25. hJob
  26.  
  27. The Job menu provides access to printer job control commands.
  28.  
  29. iNumber Copies
  30.  
  31. This command selects the number of printed copies of each page.
  32.  
  33. Default:  1
  34. Range  :  1 to 99 (1 to 32767 for LaserJet IIISi)
  35.  
  36. jLeft Offset
  37.  
  38. This command designates the position of the logical page across
  39. the width (short side) of the physical page. Positive values
  40. cause the logical page to move right along the width of the
  41. physical page. Negative values cause the logical page to move
  42. left along the width of the physical page.
  43.  
  44. Units  :  720ths of an inch.
  45. Default:  0
  46. Range  :  -32767 to 32767 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  47.  
  48. kTop Offset
  49.  
  50. This command designates the position of the logical page along
  51. the length (long-side) of the physical page. Positive values
  52. cause the logical page to move down along the length of the
  53. physical page. Negative values cause the logical page to move
  54. up along the length of the physical page.
  55.  
  56. Units  :  720ths of an inch.
  57. Default:  0
  58. Range  :  -32767 to 32767 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  59.  
  60. lSimplex/Duplex
  61.  
  62. This command designates either simplex or duplex printing.
  63. Simplex mode prints an image on only one side of a sheet
  64. (page). Duplex mode prints images on both sides of a sheet.
  65. Long-Edge bound duplexed pages are bound along the length of
  66. the physical page. Short-Edge bound duplexed pages are bound
  67. along the width of the physical page.

  71. mNext Page Side
  72.  
  73. This command causes a form feed and designates which side of
  74. the sheet to print. This command gives you the ability to skip
  75. a page while duplexing or to specify which side of a page to
  76. begin duplexing on.

  80. nSeparate Next Job
  81.  
  82. Job separation provides a means of identifying one print job
  83. from others in the printer's output tray. It usually does this
  84. by physically offsetting one print job from the next.
  85.  
  86. When "Yes" is selected, the Separate Next Job command toggles
  87. the printer's separation mechanism.
  88.  
  89. Default:  No

  92.  
  93. The Page menu provides access to printer page control commands.

  95. pPaper Source
  96.  
  97. The Paper Source command designates the location to feed paper
  98. from.
  99.  
  100. Default:  Upper Tray

  103.  
  104. The Paper Destination command designates the location to feed
  105. paper to.
  106.  
  107. Default:  Upper Output Bin
  108.  
  109. rPaper Size
  110.  
  111. The Paper Size command designates the size of the paper.

  113. If the paper size selected differs from that of the installed
  114. paper tray size and the requested paper size is not currently
  115. available in another nonsecure source, then a message is
  116. displayed on the printer control panel requesting installation
  117. of a paper tray of the selected size.
  118.  
  119. Default:  Letter

  121. sOrientation
  122.  
  123. Orientation defines the position of the logical page and the
  124. default direction of print with respect to the physical page.
  125. The direction of print is as follows:
  126.  
  127.           Portrait           -  Print Rotated 0°
  128.           Landscape          -  Print Rotated 90°
  129.           Reverse Portrait   -  Print Rotated 180°
  130.           Reverse Landscape  -  Print Rotated 270°

  134. tLeft Margin
  135.  
  136. This command designates the distance from the left edge of the
  137. physical page to the print image in inches.
  138.  
  139. Units  :  Inches.
  140. Default:  0
  141. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  142.  
  143. uRight Margin
  144.  
  145. This command designates the distance from the right edge of the
  146. physical page to the print image in inches.
  147.  
  148. Units  :  Inches.
  149. Default:  0
  150. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)

  152. vTop Margin
  153.  
  154. This command designates the distance from the top edge of the
  155. physical page to the print image in inches.
  156.  
  157. Units  :  Inches.
  158. Default:  .5
  159. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  160.  
  161. wBottom Margin
  162.  
  163. This command designates the distance from the bottom edge of the
  164. physical page to the print image in inches.

  167. Default:  .5
  168. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  169.  
  170. xPerforation Skip
  171.  
  172. The perforation region is the distance from the bottom of the text
  173. area (bottom margin) of one page to the top of the text area
  174. (top margin) of the next. When Perforation Skip is enabled the
  175. bottom and top margins are respected. When Perforation Skip is
  176. disabled they are not.
  177.  
  178. Default:  Enabled
  179.  
  180. yHorizontal Index
  181.  
  182. Horizontal Index designates the width of each character column.
  183. When a fixed spaced font is selected, Horizontal Index affects all
  184. printable characters including the space and backspace characters.
  185. When a proportional spaced font is selected, Horizontal Index
  186. affects only the space character. Each font has a default
  187. Horizontal Index. If you would like to use the font's Horizontal
  188. Index, select "Set by Font Pitch". If you would like to specify
  189. your own, select "Override".

  193. zHorizontal Index - Override
  194.  
  195. Override allows you to specify your own Horizontal Index.
  196.  
  197. Units  :  120ths of an inch.
  198. Default:  Set by Font Pitch
  199. Range  :  0 to 32767 (valid to 4 decimal places)

  201. {Vertical Index
  202.  
  203. Vertical Index designates the height of each character row. (The
  204. vertical distance the cursor will move each line feed.) You may
  205. either select one of the presets or "Other". Selecting "Other"
  206. allows you to specify your own Vertical Index.
  207.  
  208. Units  :  48ths of an inch.
  209. Default:  8/48 Inch
  210. Range  :  0 to 32767 (valid to 4 decimal places)
  211.  
  212. |End of Line Wrap
  213.  
  214. End of Line Wrap defines the action that occurs when a line of
  215. text reaches the right margin.
  216.  
  217. When End of Line Wrap is enabled, a character or space that would
  218. move the cursor to the right of the right margin causes a CR-LF
  219. (Carriage Return-Line Feed) to be executed (prior to the printing
  220. of the character or space).
  221.  
  222. When End of Line Wrap is disabled, a character or space that would
  223. move the cursor to the right of the right margin will be clipped.
  224.  
  225. Default:  Disabled
  226.  
  227. }Line Termination
  228.  
  229. Line Termination designates the way the printer interprets CR
  230. (Carriage Return), LF (Line Feed), and FF (Form Feed) characters.
  231.  
  232. Example:  Selecting CR=CR/LF,LF=LF,FF=FF causes the printer to
  233.           insert a LF (Line Feed) for each CR (Carriage Return)
  234.           received.
  235. Default:  CR=CR,LF=LF,FF=FF
  236.  
  237. ~Font
  238.  
  239. The Font menu provides access to printer font control commands.
  240. These commands are subject to the limitations of the fonts offered
  241. internally or on a cartridge by your printer. For example: If none
  242. of the fonts have an Extra Bold stroke weight, selecting Extra
  243. Bold will have no effect.
  244.  
  245. Default Font
  246.  
  247. The printer maintains two independent font tables for use in
  248. selecting a primary font and a secondary font. This command
  249. provides access to these two distinct fonts, only one of which
  250. is selected at a given time. Since these are two separate and
  251. distinct fonts, the characteristics of each may be entirely
  252. different.
  253.  
  254. Default:  Primary
  255.  
  256. ÇSelect Font
  257.  
  258. This command provides you with an alternate way of selecting
  259. fonts. Instead of changing font characteristics manually until
  260. the selected font is desired, you may use this command to select
  261. a preset font. A preset may be selected from either internal
  262. or cartridge presets.
  263.  
  264. üCartridge Fonts
  265.  
  266. Before selecting a cartridge preset, you must specify the name
  267. of a cartridge preset file. Since multiple cartridges may be
  268. used, multiple preset files may be maintained. To create
  269. a cartridge preset file, use the JPCONFIG program.

  271. éCartridge Fonts Filename
  272.  
  273. Enter the name of a cartridge font preset file. (To create
  274. a cartridge preset file, use the JPCONFIG program.) If a file
  275. extension isn't entered, the extension ".FNT" is assumed.

  277. âFont Preset Selection
  278.  
  279. Look for the font characteristics you desire. Press Enter to
  280. select those characteristics and make them active. Press Esc
  281. to abort.
  282.  
  283. äSymbol Set
  284.  
  285. The symbol set identifies the specific characters and/or symbols
  286. provided by a font. Each symbol set is defined with a specific
  287. application in mind. For example, the legal and math symbol sets
  288. were designed to support legal and scientific applications. You
  289. may select a symbol set from the list given, or you may select
  290. "Other" (located at the bottom of the list). Selecting "Other"
  291. allows you to select an unsupported symbol set. You need only
  292. supply the symbol set code (or ID #). (See your printer manual
  293. for a list of symbol set codes.)
  294.

  297. àSpacing
  298.  
  299. Fonts can be either fixed or proportionally spaced. Fixed spaced
  300. fonts are those in which the distance between characters is
  301. constant. Proportionally spaced fonts are those in which the
  302. distance between characters varies with the natural shape of
  303. each character.
  304.  
  305. NOTE: Most scaleable fonts are proportionally spaced. If you're
  306. attempting to select a scaleable font, make sure you select the
  307. correct spacing.
  308.  
  309. Default:  Fixed
  310.  
  311. åPitch
  312.  
  313. Pitch defines the number of characters printed in a horizontal
  314. inch. Pitch only applies to fixed spaced fonts since the number
  315. of characters per inch varies for proportional fonts.
  316.  
  317. Units  :  Characters Per Inch
  318. Default:  10
  319. Range  :  .1 to 576 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  320.  
  321. çHeight
  322.  
  323. The height of a font is the measurement of the body of the type
  324. in points; a point being 1/72nd of an inch. The body of the
  325. type is slightly greater than the distance from the bottom of a
  326. descender to the top of an unaccented capital letter.
  327.  
  328. NOTE: If you're selecting a scaleable font, any desired height
  329. may be entered. The printer will then scale the font to the
  330. requested height.
  331.  
  332. Units  :  1 Point (72nd of an inch)
  333. Default:  12
  334. Range  :  .25 to 999.75 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  335.  
  336. êStyle
  337.  
  338. Style is defined by the three following characteristics: posture
  339. (upright, italic), width (condensed, normal, expanded, etc.),
  340. and structure (solid, outline, shadow, etc.). You may select a
  341. style from the list given, or you may select "Other" (located
  342. at the bottom of the list). Selecting "Other" allows you to
  343. select an unsupported style. You need only supply the style
  344. code. (See your printer manual for a list of style codes.)
  345.  
  346. Default:  Upright
  347.  
  348. ëStroke Weight
  349.  
  350. Stroke weight defines the thickness of the strokes that compose
  351. the characters. Select a stroke weight from the list given.
  352.  
  353. Default:  Medium
  354.  
  355. èTypeface
  356.  
  357. Typeface identifies the design of the symbols (characters) of
  358. the font. Each typeface has unique and distinguishing design
  359. characteristics. You may select a typeface from the list given,
  360. or you may select "Other" (located at the bottom of the list).
  361. Selecting "Other" allows you to select an unsupported typeface.
  362. You need only supply the typeface code. (See your printer manual
  363. for a list of typeface codes.)
  364.  
  365. Default:  Courier
  366.  
  367. ïUnderline
  368.  
  369. Underline controls automatic text underlining. When fixed
  370. underlining is selected, the underline is drawn at 5/300ths
  371. of an inch below the baseline. When floating underlining
  372. is selected, the underline position is determined by the
  373. greatest underline distance below the baseline of all of the
  374. fonts printed on the current line.
  375.  
  376. Default:  Disabled

  379.  
  380. The Other menu provides access to other commands printer related.
  381.  
  382. ìPrint Control String
  383.  
  384. This option allows you to manually enter a control string to be
  385. sent to the printer. A control string is a group of characters
  386. that instructs the printer to perform a certain function or
  387. command. The control string can be a combination of commands or
  388. can simply be a line of text to be printed.
  389.  
  390. LaserJet printer commands are preceded by an escape character
  391. (escape code). The escape code looks like an arrow pointing to
  392. the left (). To enter the escape code, press the Esc key while
  393. you're editing the control string.
  394.

  397. ÄPrint Envelope
  398.  
  399. This option allows you to easily print envelopes on your LaserJet.
  400.  
  401. ÅEnvelope Source
  402.  
  403. The Envelope Source command designates the location to feed
  404. the envelope from.
  405.  
  406. Default:  Upper Tray
  407.  
  408. ÉEnvelope Size
  409.  
  410. The Envelope Size command designates the size of the envelope to
  411. print.
  412.  
  413. Default:  Monarch
  414.  
  415. æFrom Address From Top
  416.  
  417. This command designates the distance in inches from the top of the
  418. envelope that the "From" address should be printed.
  419.  
  420. Units  :  Inches
  421. Default:  .5
  422. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)
  423.  
  424. ÆFrom Address From Left
  425.  
  426. This command designates the distance in inches from the left of
  427. the envelope that the "From" address should be printed.

  431. Range  :  0 to 14 (valid to 2 decimal places)

  433. ôTo Address From Top

  435. This command designates the distance in inches from the top of the
  436. envelope that the "To" address should be printed.

  444. This command designates the distance in inches from the left of
  445. the envelope that the "To" address should be printed.

  451. òPrint Envelope
  452.  
  453. Enter the "FROM" and "TO" addresses.
  454.  
  455. To import either the "FROM" or "TO" address off the screen,
  456. press F2 while the cursor is in either the "FROM" or "TO"
  457. address box.

  459. To finish and print the envelope, press F3.
  460.  
  461. ûImport Address - Mark Address Start
  462.  
  463. Use the arrow keys to navigate around the screen. Place the
  464. cursor on the first character of the first line of the address
  465. you wish to import. Then press Enter.
  466.  
  467. ùImport Address - Mark Address End
  468.  
  469. Use the arrow keys to extend the box so that it covers the
  470. complete address you wish to import. Then press Enter.
  471.  
  472. ÿPrint File
  473.  
  474. This option allows you to print a file to your LaserJet.

  478. The System menu provides access to system commands.

  480. ÜLoad Setup
  481.  
  482. This option allows you to restore a setup from file.

  503.  
  504. This option allows you to install JetPilot in memory as a TSR
  505. (Terminate but Stay Resident) program. Once done, you may
  506. activate JetPilot at any time later by pressing the activation
  507. hotkey. The default activation hotkey is Ctrl-Alt-J (Hold down
  508. the Ctrl and Alt keys and press J). The activation hotkey may
  509. be changed using the JetPilot Configuration program JPCONFIG.

  511. ¥Uninstall
  512.  
  513. This option allows you to uninstall JetPilot from memory. Once
  514. done, all memory used by JetPilot is freed for other programs
  515. to use.
