---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Since PC Dashboard's original release, v1.02, several changes and
minor fixes have been made and are now included in v1.15. If you have
a previous version, then refer to the end of this document to see a
listing of the changes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
PC DASHBOARD is an exceptionally powerful and easy-to-use Menu System for
IBM PC's and compatibles equipped with fixed disk drives. It eliminates the
need for you to remember complicated DOS commands and confusing directory
paths when you want to run a program or other routine from your hard disk.
You can enter the program start-up commands ONCE into PC Dashboard's Menu
Item Settings window; after that, simply pressing the appropriate letter key
will launch your program or specific task. At last - you can FORGET ABOUT
DOS and concentrate on getting your work done!
PC Dashboard is a completely re-written and enhanced version of the popular
shareware menuing system, Menu Master 2.12, by John Franck (February, 1987).
Menu Master's great success is largely due to many honest people who
supported the shareware concept, and who appreciated Menu Master's simple,
straightforward design. Every effort has gone into keeping things just as
simple with PC Dashboard, while providing the additional features that make
it THE most powerful, flexible, and easy to use menu system available.
FEATURES:
- Simple to learn - fast and easy to use.
- Menu Settings entered directly from the program - no text
editor needed - no complicated special commands to learn.
- Clear, colorfully attractive screen layouts.
- Pop-up Help windows.
- Menus with up to 24 items per menu - all defined by you.
- Unlimited number of Submenus created automatically and
displayed instantly.
- Menu prompts, Passwords, Directory Paths, and Command Settings
(with up to 10 lines per setting) - all defined by you and
entered only ONCE.
- Screen colors and individual Menu Prompt colors can be
customized to suit your tastes.
- Personalized Menu Titles.
- Colorful On-screen User Notes customized in either regular text
or extra-large "BigNotes" text.
- Menu selections can prompt the user for input.
- Option to keep PC Dashboard memory-resident, increasing the
speed in returning to the menu.
- Gateway to DOS function: can "shell" to any subdirectory that
you designate while your current menu stays in memory.
- Optional Time and Date display.
- Optional clock chimes on the hour.
- Optional screen saver blanks the screen after 4 minutes of inactivity.
- System Password protection scheme with extensive flexibility.
The Evaluation Version of PC Dashboard is distributed as SHAREWARE and is
FULLY FUNCTIONAL! When you register, you will receive the Licensed Version
of PC Dashboard, which is the commercially available, shrink-wrapped
software package from No Sweat Software. It contains the official program
disk, complete printed user's manual, registration code, certain utility
programs, product support commitment from No Sweat Software, and access to
future upgrades of PC Dashboard at nominal cost.
The downloadable file, PCDSH6.ARC, contains all of the files necessary to
fully evaluate PC Dashboard, including a 12-page instruction manual. The
files should be Un-ARCed using ARC-E.COM or equivalent. The manual may be
printed by copying the file PCDASH.DOC to your printer. Normally, the DOS
command for doing this is: COPY PCDASH.DOC PRN. The Registration/Order form
can be found at the end of PCDASH.DOC.

PC Dashboard (PCD) Improvements since v1.02, the original release:
Version Improvements
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1.15 PCD's logo, shown when the screen blanks, now alternates between
lines 24 and 25, every hour on the hour. This is to further
protect from "screen burn-in" on systems that remain on, but
inactive, for extended periods of time.
1.13 At midnight, the date display would not advance to the next day.
- Corrected.
1.12 When screen blanks, PCD's logo and time are displayed on bottom
line. This earlier feature, removed with v1.08, is now back by
popular demand. (Thanks to many of you for your comments!)
Eliminated the annoying "File Not Found" message that sometimes
appeared while the program was loading
1.10 Snow Filter defaults to "Yes", unless changed by user. Several
minor cosmetic changes.
1.08 Some programs running under PCD's Gateway Mode (DOS Shell) would
cause PCD to crash upon returning to the menu. - Corrected.
A batch file or program running under the # (memory-resident)
mode could cause a blank menu screen to appear if the file or
program contained a command to change directories (eg. CHDIR).
- Corrected.
Typing "MENU" instead of "EXIT" during Gateway Mode (DOS Shell)
would load another copy of PCD on top of the "parent". If done
enough times, the computer's memory could be used up. With v1.08,
you can type either "EXIT" or "MENU" to return from the Gateway
Mode. It is no longer possible to load PCD on top of itself.
When the screen blanks after 4 minutes of inactivity, it now
blanks out completely (without the PCD logo or Time showing).
Much faster window displays!
1.07 Composite Monochrome monitor support. Some types of composite
monochrome monitors, could not handle PCD's default system colors.
This was corrected with v1.07. The System Options window now
allows you to specify if your monitor is NOT a color display.
Menu Title and Menu Prompts would not hold their proper color
values at the MAIN menu with v1.06. Corrected.
1.06 Version 1.02 would disable the On-Screen Notes feature after a
specified number of unregistered uses. This feature was removed
with v1.06, making PCD's evaluation version indeed
fully-functional. (Thanks to the kind folks who helped us see
the light on this one.)
