This allows a certain amount of flexibility and provides you with a program designed for your computer's configuration. gEach pulldown menu has its own help system so you can determine what each function is used for before you select a particular function. When the main menu bar is displayed you use the Alt key in combination with the first letter of the options displayed to activate the pulldown menu. Once a pulldown menu is displayed press the key representing the first letter of the function you you wish to select. The author has hand coded these tests in assembler and they have been optimized to allow the fastest possible throughput. Two tests will be run, and it is not uncommon for 'snow' to appear on the screen during the second test if you have a CGA monitor and display card. éIt is important to understand that few commercial programs have optimized the video output to the degree the author has optimized these tests. However, the results are quite accurate and should give you a good indication of the 'raw' speed of the monitor and display card being tested. apress any key to return to the main menu U k H H M J M é L L L 2 a ' Processor Test Menu Help Screen iTest Clock Speed æThe first option on this menu allows you to determine the true clock speed of the computer being tested. Several changes were made to substitute Microsoft's C time functions for the UNIX time functions in the original code. The code was then compiled using version 5.1 of Microsoft's Optimizing C Compiler. The /Ox command line switch was used to provide maximum optimization. bI would like to thank Dr. Wakeem Kalada (MIT), and Alan F. Roberts (Cooper) for their help in validating this version of the dhrystone benchmark test. UAt several places code has been added, but within the measurement loop only in branches that are not executed. The intention is that the compiler should be prevented from moving code out of the measurement loop, or from removing code altogether. The test has already started and is running while you read this. SThe time this test takes is a function of your computer's processor and should take from one to three minutes to complete. V ╓
