  11. You are encouraged to copy the PC-Calc+ diskettes and share them freely
  12. with others.  You have the luxury of trying out the complete programs, at
  13. your own pace and in the comfort of your own home or workplace.  This is not
  14. a crippled or "demo" copy, but the complete working version of the program.
  15.  
  16. After you have used PC-Calc+ for a reasonable evaluation period you must
  17. either discontinue use of the program or purchase a licensed copy from
  18. ButtonWare or from an authorized dealer.

  39. from taking unfair advantage of the trust, hard work, and good will of
  40. Shareware authors. Exceptions to these conditions must be received in writing
  41. from ButtonWare.

  43. 1. Disk vendors (those who sell Shareware disks for a profit) must follow
  44.    the procedure outlined in the "VENDOR.DOC" file.
  45. 2. You may not charge more than $3 per diskette.
  46. 3. The files and programs on the disks may not be modified or deleted.
  47. 4. The programs cannot be sold as part of some other more inclusive package.
  48. 5. The programs cannot be "rented" or "leased" to others.
  49. 6. In the case of distribution via any telecommunications link
  50.    the following must be done:
  51.        All ButtonWare programs (and documentation files) must be transferred
  52.        in a library or archive format.  This means that all the files on
  53.        each ButtonWare disk must be combined into one file - one file
  54.        for each ButtonWare disk.
  55. 7. If you're copying the disks for distribution to students in a classroom,

  142. PC-Calc+ version 2.0 stores spreadsheet files in a different format than
  143. previous versions of PC-Calc.  You will need to convert your current
  144. spreadsheet files to the new format before using them with PC-Calc+ Vsn 2.0.
  145.  
  146. To convert spreadsheet files created with previous versions of PC-Calc, you
  147. must run the program CONVERT.
  148.  
  149. Select option 0 of the CONVERT menu:
  150.            to convert the original PC-Calc data to PC-Calc+ Version 2.0 data.
  151. Select option 1 of the CONVERT menu:
  152.            to convert the PC-Calc+ Vsn 1.0 data to PC-Calc+ Version 2.0 data.

  162. The PC-Calc+ system files are compressed into two files on your distribution
  163. diskettes: PCCP.ZIP and PCCU.ZIP.  These files must be "uncompressed" before
  164. you can use PC-Calc+.  The program INSTALL.EXE has been provided to install
  165. PC-Calc+ onto your hard drive.
  166.  
  167. If you ordered PC-Calc+ on 3 1/2" diskettes, both of the .ZIP files are on
  168. one 3 1/2" diskette.
  169.  
  170. The file INST.BAT on the 3 1/2" diskette is only used to install PC-Calc+ on
  171. systems with no hard disk but two 3 1/2" disk drives.

  178. To install PC-Calc+, place the PC-Calc+ DISK ONE in drive A.  Then, at the
  179. A prompt, type A:INSTALL and press Enter.  The INSTALL program installs the
  180. files on the PC-Calc+ disks to the drive and subdirectory you specify. 1 Meg
  181. of disk space is required to install all files.
  182.  
  183. During the install process you will be asked if you want to move the major
  184. executable files to a directory specified in your path statement.  If you
  185. answer NO, you should add the directory C:\PCCALC (or the directory you
  186. specified if not C:\PCCALC) to your path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  187. The major executable files include PCC.EXE, PCCALC.PRO, PCC.HLP, PCG2.EXE,
  188. CONVERT.EXE, P90.EXE and MSHERC.COM.

  196. To install PC-Calc+ to 3 1/2" diskettes:

  198.          (A) Format 2 diskettes to 720K (or more).
  199.          (B) Label these diskettes as:
  200.              (1) WORKING DISK
  201.              (2) OTHER PGMS DISK
  202.          (C) Copy COMMAND.COM to the WORKING DISK.
  203.          (D) Place the distribution 3 1/2" diskette into drive A.
  204.          (E) Type  A:INST after the DOS prompt and press Enter.
  205.          (F) Follow the instructions on swapping disks.

  207. Before running PC-Calc+ on your dual 3 1/2" diskette system, you should
  208. make sure that you have an active PATH statement like
  209.

  212. It is recommended that you place this statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  213.  
  214. While you can set your own colors within PC-Calc+, an initial color
  215. setting is provided for you in the file COLOR.PRO.  If you wish to use this
  216. color setting, erase the file PCCALC.PRO from your working disk and rename
  217. the file COLOR.PRO to PCCALC.PRO.  (The original PCCALC.PRO sets all color
  218. options to black and white.)

  221. To run PC-Calc+ on your dual 3 1/2" diskette system:
  222.  
  223.          (A) Place the WORKING disk into drive A.  (Note that COMMAND.COM
  224.              should be on this disk.)
  225.          (B) Move to the B drive by typing B: after the DOS prompt and
  226.              pressing Enter.
  227.          (C) Insert the diskette with files to be processed into drive B.
  228.          (D) Start PC-Calc+ by typing   PCC filename   as described in the
  229.              manual.

  231. NOTE: Dual 3 1/2" disk systems may not be able to use PCG2.EXE directly from
  232.       inside PC-Calc+ because of disk space limitations.

  237. | HARDWARE CONFIGURATION AND PRINTER FILES |

  240. A default configuration file and several default printer files have been
  241. provided for your convenience.  You do not have to use these default files.
  242.  
  243. Default Configuration File
  244.  
  245. The file COLOR.PRO contains screen color definitions for color monitors.
  246. If you have a color monitor and want to use the default colors, copy the
  247. file COLOR.PRO to PCCALC.PRO.  The new PCCALC.PRO file must be on the same
  248. drive and subdirectory containing the PCC.EXE file.
  249.  
  250. The next time you start PC-Calc+, the default screen colors will
  251. automatically be loaded from the file PCCALC.PRO.
  252.  
  253. Note: You can change the screen colors at any time using the Configure,
  254.       Display command.  Any other color settings you make will automatically
  255.       be saved in your spreadsheet files (filename.PCC).
  256.  
  257. Default Printer Files
  258.  
  259. Printer files have been included for many popular printers.  If a printer
  260. file has been included for your printer, we recommend you install the print
  261. file now.  Otherwise, you can create a printer file later using the
  262. Print/Graph, Escape codes command.
  263.  
  264. To load a printer file, follow these steps:
  265.  
  266. 1.  Log on to the drive and subdirectory containing your PC-Calc+ program
  267. file.  Start PC-Calc+ by typing
  268.  
  269.      PCC
  270.  
  271. and then pressing Enter.
  272.  
  273. 2.  With the cell pointer in cell A1, press / to display the main
  274.     menu.
  275.  
  276. 3.  Press L to select the (L)oad/Save option of the main menu.
  277.  
  278. 4.  Press P to select the (P) Load print codes option of the Load/Save
  279.     menu.
  280.  
  281. 5.  You will be asked for the path containing the file to load.  Just
  282.     press Enter.
  283.  
  284. 6.  You will be shown a list of different printer files.  Move the
  285.     highlight bar to the printer file for your printer.  Type the drive and
  286.     subdirectory containing the printer files and press Enter.
  287.  
  288. 7.  Now you need to save the printer codes to the PCCALC.PRO file.
  289.     Press / again to display the main menu.
  290.  
  291. 8.  Press L to select the (L)oad/Save option of the main menu.
  292.  
  293. 9.  Press D to select the Save configuration option of the Load/Save
  294.     menu.
  295.  
  296. 10.  You will be asked for the path to save the configuration file.  Type
  297.      the drive and subdirectory containing the printer files and press Enter.
  298.  
  299. 11a.  If you see a file called PCCALC, move the highlight bar to this
  300.       file and press Enter.
  301.  
  302. 11b.  If you do not see a file called PCCALC, press Enter with the
  303.       highlight bar on the file New_File.  You will be asked to type the
  304.       name for the new file.  Type
  305.  
  306.          PCCALC

  308.       and press Enter.

  310. PC-Calc+ will store the printer codes you just loaded in the file
  311. PCCALC.PRO. The next time you start PC-Calc+, the default printer
  312. codes will automatically be loaded from the file PCCALC.PRO.

  314. Note: You can change the printer codes at any time using the Print/Graph,
  315.       Escape codes command.  The printer information is automatically stored
  316.       in your spreadsheet files (filename.PCC).

  324. To start PC-Calc+, log on to the drive and path containing the PC-Calc+
  325. program file, and type:

  330. subdirectory in your path using the DOS PATH command, you don't have to
  331. be logged on the PC-Calc+ drive and subdirectory to start the program).

  333. There are several command line parameters which can be used when you start
  334. PC-Calc+.  These command line parameters are listed below:

  336.    PCC filespec               Start PC-Calc+ and load a spreadsheet

  339.    PCC /E=M                     per screen on EGA and VGA monitors

  355. If you did not purchase PC-Calc+ (complete with printed manual) directly
  356. from ButtonWare or from an authorized dealer, then you are considered to be
  357. evaluating the program.
  358.  
  359. We have tried to provide you with everything necessary to evaluate
  360. PC-Calc+. The program utilizes clear, informative menus. Help screens are
  361. always available.
  362.  
  363. This is sufficient for most people to do a good evaluation of the program.
  364. However, some people prefer to have a complete copy of the printed manual.
  365.  
  366. A complete copy of the printed "User's Manual" for PC-Calc+ is
  367. available on floppy disk to help you with your evaluation of the
  368. program. It's about 230 pages long so you'll need a lot of time,
  369. patience, and paper to print it out.
  370.  
  371. The User's Manual on disk has been mailed to all major computer clubs, user
  372. groups, shareware disk dealers and bulletin board operators that ButtonWare
  373. is aware of. You can obtain the User's Manual on disk from one of these
  374. groups. Just ask for PC-Calc+ (version 2.0) disk number 3, or the PC-Calc+
  375. (version 2.0) manual on disk.

  377. In order to keep costs down, the document disk is not included with purchased
  378. copies of the program and cannot be purchased directly from ButtonWare.
  379. Purchased copies of PC-Calc+ include complete a printed copy of the User's
  380. Manual, typeset and bound.

  382. To print the PC-Calc+ User's Manual on disk, place the PC-Calc+
  383. documentation disk in drive A and type:

  389. To start printing at a page number other than page 1, or to use a left
  390. margin, place the documentation disk in drive A and type:

  395. Replace "margin with the number of spaces to include at the left of
  396. the document.

  405. Where n is the size of the margin and the page that you would like

  413. 1. The EGA/VGA toggle has three line densities: 25, 35, and 43.  On some
  414.    EGA/VGA equipment, the middle density will not work properly because
  415.    of variations in the ROM bios for those machines.
  416.  
  417. 2. Some other text files on the disk worth taking a look at:
  418.        FILES    - A short description of the files included on the disks.
  419.        PRODUCTS - Short review of ButtonWare products, and an order form
  420.        RESPONSE - A user feedback survey. We really like to receive these
  421.                   from you.
  422.  
  423. 3. When PC-Calc+ encounters a formula but cannot understand how to display
  424.    the results, it will place "?????" in the cell position on the screen.
  425.    For example, A3+A4 would result in the "?????" display if cell A3
  426.    contained text and cell A4 was empty.

  432. If you respond Y to the question "Free all memory?" when dropping to DOS
  433. from within PC-Calc+, the current contents of memory is written to disk.
  434. This information is needed to reenter PC-Calc+.  It is stored in a file
  435. with a name like __nnnnnn where the n's will be a series of numbers.  If you
  436. drop to DOS with this option and stay in DOS for a while, DO NOT erase or
  437. move this file.  It will be deleted from your disk when you reenter PC-Calc+
  438. with the EXIT command.

  445. PC-Calc+ by itself will not "merge" the graphs created with PCG2.EXE with
  446. the text created with the PRINT options. There is, however, a program called
  447. "InSet" which will do this excellently, and will allow you to resize the
  448. graph to fit into any area of your output file.  It interfaces easily with

  460. and occupies about 115K - 132K of memory.  It can be "uninstalled".  Should
  461. you decide to purchase this very useful program, make sure that your
  462. printer is supported.  (Most printers are.)
