MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK
SERMON RESEARCH SERVICE
A MINISTRY OF DR. MILTON S. MAGNESS
__________________________________________________
This disk contains four complete messages and four complete
children's sermons. But first, let us tell you more about this
exciting service for churches and their pastors.
Your computer is a powerful tool. It will process information at
unbelievable speed. But you have to provide the information for it
to process.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK is a sermon research that will give you a
good sermon building block that you can use every month. These
are the same high quality, up-to-date messages we have been
providing to pastors since the Fall of 1989. Since this service is
small and relatively new, the sermons provided are not in the hands
of every pastor in your city.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK provides background study for the busy pastor
for whom time is a premium. This is a sermon help service that
will supplement your own study. Each sermon is original,
expository, and evangelistic. They are written with an eye and ear
toward the congregation. MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK will provide
pastors with a summary of sound research for use in supplementing
your own preparation. MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK are perfect for the
bi-vocational pastor who must continually juggle a full-time job,
church responsibilities and still find time for sermon preparation.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK are written in full manuscript. They are
complete with introduction, illustrations, application, and a
conclusion. The sermons are ready for pastors to add their own
illustrations or applications to individualize the messages.
Following each message there is a children's sermon to coordinate
with your message or for use at another time of your choosing.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK are written from a conservative theological
position. Each has been preached in the author's own pulpit.
"Field testing" helps insure that messages are practical and
concrete rather than theoretical and abstract. S. M. Lockridge
once said that after a pastor has preached a sermon, he "knows
where the pitfalls are." Any obvious "pitfalls" have been removed
before mailing.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK are written in both Word Perfect and ASCII
format so that they can be easily imported into your word
processor. There are 12 mailings per year with 4 complete sermons
and 4 children's sermons per disk.
There are 48 complete messages and 48 children's sermons in each
subscription.
FEATURES
EXPOSITORY-- Sermons are expository in nature. Most messages will
focus on from one to four or five verses. Sermon series treat
major portions of scripture or begin with chapter 1, verse 1 and
continue through to the end of a book.
CONTEMPORARY-- Introductions and illustrations make use of current
news and events or issues that people are now facing. There is no
reliance on out-dated illustration sources (illustration books
etc.).
WELL ORGANIZED-- Messages are organized around a logical outline
that is easy to follow and relates well to the congregation.
ILLUSTRATIONS are current and well suited to the text. Enough
illustrations are included to make the message come alive. Pastors
may also insert their own with ease.
EXPOSITORY-- Each message contains a careful exegetical treatment
of the text. The Biblical phrase treated is underlined with the
analysis of that passage following immediately.
EVANGELISTIC--Every message includes a conclusion which leads into
an invitation. Preaching must be for a verdict of people receiving
Christ. The entire sermon is focused on and builds to that climax.
ABOUT THE CHILDREN'S SERMONS
Children's Sermons utilize the same text and thrust where
practical. This helps add continuity to the service. Pastors have
realized for generations how important it is to invest some of
their time with children.
About a decade ago many pastors began using object lesson
children's sermons as an integral part of the worship service. A
number of books are available to help prepare these messages.
However, the greatest benefit to the worship service is achieved by
coordinating the children's sermon with the morning sermon but
there are few (if any) resources for this at the pastor's deposal.
MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK are designed to fill this void. Each
children's sermon makes use of an easy to locate object and
attempts to coordinate both parts of the service. If you do not
now use a children's sermon, consider using MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK
as a starting point for developing a more effective children's
ministry. There are four coordinated children's sermons per disk--a
total of 48 each year.

A PERSONAL WORD FROM THE AUTHOR
Dear Fellow Pastor,
Does your church provide you a sermon research assistant?
Some of our finest preachers now rely heavily on such aid. If you
are not one of these fortunate few, let me be your personal
research assistant.
If you had ten extra hours a week how would you spend them?
With your family? Knocking doors? Studying? By using my research
as the basis for your own, you can effectively lengthen your week
by at least ten hours. If you prepare as I do, you look at every
source available on a particular text or subject and thoroughly
digest the information. By using MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK you will,
in effect, have your own research associate. I will do your word
studies, exegesis, and give you suggestions for illustrations and
applications. Then you develop your sermon as you wish.
Let's face it, some weeks you run out of time before you get
your preparation finished. In that event you can print them out as
is and take the notes straight to your pulpit.
If you prefer, you can use these notes as they are for your
Sunday evening or Wednesday evening service.
Three new preparations per week mean you must come up with at
least 150 new messages a year. Don't you deserve the extra help of
a new resource? Doesn't your church deserve the best you can give
them. Invest in your ministry and in the future of your church!
Send for your first issue of MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK today. Your
preaching will be strengthened as a result.
The cost is about half the cost of a daily newspaper in a
major city. This is a small investment that will pay big dividends
in your ministry. Let your church subscribe for you. You'll be
glad you did!
In His Service,
Milton S. Magness
P.S. The extra research afforded you by MAGNESS NOTES ON DISK may
make the difference in you developing a forgettable sermon and a
memorable one. Subscribe today and give your best as you stand to
deliver Sunday's sermon!
