  2.                 WELCOME TO CARTE BLANCHE THE DATA HANDLER

  5.   Overview

  8.          Carte Blanche the Data Handler is a utility program for
  9.   use with dBase III compatible DBF files. Carte Blanche will recognize
  10.   and allow access to any dBase III DBF file, and provide the ability
  11.   to modify, manipulate and create output from the DBF. Some of the
  12.   more interesting features include a Query Interface, Form Letters,
  13.   Labels , List Printer, Data Entry, Modify Structure , Intelligent
  14.   Import , Global Search and Replace, Duplicate Finder, Frequency
  15.   and Time Period Analysis.

  17.          Carte Blanche is primarily intended for those with existing
  18.   DBF data files, who wish to now DO SOMETHING with all that data. The
  19.   program grew out of my own frustration with attempts to get useful
  20.   information from DBF files, using existing DBMS and vertical market
  21.   programs.

  23.          A working knowledge of DOS is assumed on the part of the user.

  25.   Installation
  26.   ------------

  28.          The Carte Blanche system should be installed either in the
  29.   drive and directory where Carte Blanche will be used, or on a drive
  30.   and directory accessible by the DOS PATH. To install, go to the
  31.   directory where Carte Blanche will reside, insert the Carte Blanche
  32.   disk in drive A: and type A:INSTALL. CARTE.EXE will be created in
  33.   the current drive and directory. When first installed, this is the
  34.   only file needed. (System Files will be created later)

  37.   DOS Concerns
  38.   ------------

  40.           DOS Version 3.0 or above should be used. Carte Blanche will not
  41.   run with earlier versions of DOS. At the DOS prompt type VER. The DOS
  42.   version will be displayed.
  43.           The DOS CONFIG.SYS file, usually found in the root directory of
  44.   drive C: should be modified as needed to contain the lines:
  45.                   FILES=20
  46.                   BUFFERS=20
  47.           The FILES and BUFFERS amounts may be higher, but not lower. If
  48.   the CONFIG.SYS file had to be modified, reboot the computer before
  49.   running Carte Blanche.

  54.         Carte Blanche is started by typing CARTE. The Carte Blanche main
  55.   screen will appear. From there, simply press F1 at any time for Carte
  56.   Blanches Online Hypertext Help. The FULL MANUAL is online at all times!
