  13. Welcome to VMiX 386 multitasker and multiuser.  VMiX 386 differs from the
  14. old VMiX 286 by the added capability to operate in protected mode, with
  15. 80386 based personal computers.
  16.  
  17. The user interface is essentially the same, regardless of the processor
  18. detected in your PC or AT (8088, 8086, 80286, or 80386/486).  With the 386,
  19. each new task receives its own 640Kb memory partition by mapping extended
  20. memory, in virtual 8086 mode.  This frees VMiX from having to multitask
  21. only in conventional memory or swap tasks back and forth from extended
  22. memory.  VMiX can now handle applications that write directly to the screen
  23. by virtualizing the video in 386 mode.  We hope that you will continue to
  24. use VMiX as it evolves into the 90s.

  26. We assume that you do not wish to go through a lot of documentation before
  27. starting to use VMiX, so we have included the file VMiX.DOC as a quick
  28. start-up guide.  An on-line manual is included as MANUAL.DOC, however the
  29. printed manual will usually be more complete.
