  3.          To run Personal Record Keeper Version 1.10, your computer 
  4.          must have at least the following configuration:
  5.  
  6.                    DOS 3.x
  7.                    475k of free RAM
  8.                    CGA, EGA or VGA monitor
  9.                    A hard disk drive, or
  10.                    A high-density floppy drive,
  11.                         either 3.5" or 5.25"
  12.  
  13.          In addition, you must have a CONFIG.SYS file in your root 
  14.          directory which contains the following line:
  15.  
  16.                    FILES = 50
  17.  
  18.          The figure can be greater than 50, but it can't be less.  If 
  19.          this line isn't present, or if you don't have a CONFIG.SYS 
  20.          file, your computer will probably lock up when you try to run 
  21.          PRK and you'll have to reboot.  Check your DOS manual for 
  22.          information about creating and modifying a CONFIG.SYS file.  
  23.          Once you've added the proper line, you must reboot your 
  24.          system -- the new line won't take effect until you do.
  25.  
  26.          Setting up PRK is very easy.  If you're using a hard disk 
  27.          (which we strongly recommend), create a directory, change to 
  28.          that directory, and copy the file from the diskette into it 
  29.          using the DOS copy command.  PRK is distributed as an 
  30.          archived file called PRK1.EXE.  To prepare it for use, type:

  32.                    PRK1 <enter>
  33.  
  34.          After all files have been extracted from the archive, the 
  35.          system is ready for use.  To start, type:
  36.  
  37.                    PRK <enter>
  38.          
  39.          If you want to run on a floppy disk, you can, although it'll 
  40.          be pretty slow.  PRK will fit on either a 5.25" or 3.5" high- 
  41.          density floppy.  Your only limitation will be the amount of 
  42.          data you can store -- since PRK will use as much space as it 
  43.          can, hard-disk systems will hold many thousands of records, 
  44.          but floppies are much more limited.  Unfortunately, PRK won't 
  45.          use two floppy drives.

  47.          The first time you start PRK, you'll see a bright red Warning 
  48.          screen, telling you to make sure that your CONFIG.SYS file 
  49.          contains the proper 'FILES = 50' line.  If it doesn't, press 
  50.          the ESC key, add the line, reboot your computer (important -- 
  51.          the line won't take effect until you reboot), and restart 
  52.          PRK.  If the line is present, press the ENTER key.  PRK will 
  53.          then start, and you won't see the Warning screen again.
