  1. THE MOVIE DATABASE

  4.    Welcome to my movie-information-on-disk concept.
  5. I think you'll find it interesting.
  6.  
  7.    For information on what the database contains,
  8. see README.MOV.
  9.  
  10.    For information on how to look up information
  11. with the included MOVIES program, see MOVIES.DOC.
  12.  
  13.    The remaining information in this file consists
  14. of:
  15.  - user group (registration) information
  16.  - the licensing agreement
  17.  - information about recent updates to
  18.    The Movie Database package.

  21. Registration
  22. ------------
  23.    The contents of these diskettes has been provided
  24. on an honor system "try-before-you-buy" basis.
  25. (If you paid less than $13 for this package,
  26. your payment was simply for a duplication/handling
  27. charge and for the diskette(s) themselves, not
  28. for the contents.)
  29.  
  30.    As much as I'd like to provide this database
  31. for free, it required a lot of time to type in the
  32. information for 4000+ movies.  (Time I could have
  33. spent making some money to meet my mortgage
  34. payments.)  If you like The Movie Database and
  35. would like to continue using it, then please pay
  36. for it.   And besides, you'll be supporting my
  37. future work on this project as well as getting
  38. on my mailing list to be informed of future
  39. updates.

  41.    Registered users can also earn a few bucks
  42. by distributing The Movie Database to others
  43. who register.
  44.  
  45.    To register, just send us a check or money
  46. order, with your name and address, and The Movie
  47. Database serial number (which you can get by doing
  48. SHOWID at the DOS prompt -- this is how I credit
  49. whomever you got your disk from).  If you think you
  50. will be distributing copies to others, give us your
  51. social security number (or other identifier) as well,
  52. so I can give you credit.  (And run MAKEID to record
  53. your number on the disk.)

  61.    Carefully read the following terms and
  62. conditions.  If you do not agree with them, you
  63. should not use this package.  Use of this software
  64. package indicates your acceptance of the terms and

  68. "Publisher", provides this product and licenses its
  69. use.  Your use of this product acknowledges that
  70. you have read this agreement, understand it, and
  71. agree to be bound by its terms and conditions.

  73.    You may use this product for any purpose,
  74. subject to the following restrictions:
  75. 1 - You may copy the contents of these diskettes for
  76.     yourself or for others, but the entire package
  77.     must be copied without change;
  78. 2 - You may charge for copies of this package, but
  79.     not more than $12;
  80. 3 - You may not incorporate this package, or any part
  81.     of this package, in a commercial product, without
  82.     prior arrangement with Packet Press.  (Typically,
  83.     I will ask for a nominal royalty fee.)

  85.    This license is effective until terminated.    You
  86. may terminate it at any time by destroying the
  87. product together with all copies.  The license also
  88. terminates if you fail to comply with the terms and
  89. conditions of this agreement.

  91.    The contents of these diskettes are protected by
  92. United States Copyright law and also by International
  93. Treaty provisions.

  95.    The Publisher makes no warranties in regard to
  96. this product.  No claim is made that functions
  97. contained in this product will meet your
  98. requirements or that the software operation will be
  99. uninterrupted or error free.

  101.    In no event will the publisher be liable to you
  102. for any damages, including any lost profits, lost
  103. savings or other incidental or consequential
  104. damages arising out of the use or inability to use
  105. this product, or for any claim by any other party.

  107.    This agreement shall be construed, interpreted
  108. and governed by the laws of the state of Maryland.
  109. You agree that this is the complete and exclusive
  110. statement of this agreement which supersedes any
  111. prior agreement or other communication between us on
  112. this subject.

  120. 1 - You will find a program called MAKEID on your
  121. diskette.  Run this program to put your social
  122. security number on the diskette so that you will get
  123. credit when you give a copy of The Movie Database to
  124. someone else and they decide to join our users group.
  125. (You must be a member yourself in order to to be
  126. credited.)

  128. 2 - You will also find a "bat" file called SHOWID.
  129. This contains the identifying social security number
  130. of whomever you got your disk from.  Give us this
  131. number when you join the Movie Users Group.
