WHAT'S NEW - REVISION HISTORY
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
VERSION 3.0 (March 13, 1991)
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SPELLING CHECKER
We have added an integrated spelling checker with a
112,000+ word dictionary. You can check spelling
globally or by word. When unrecognized words are
encountered, you can select from suggested spellings,
edit the word and recheck, ignore all occurrences of
the word, skip the word once, or add the word to the
dictionary. Suggested spelling are presented in a
point-and-shoot window. The number of words you can
add is practically unlimited.
WORD-WRAP and REFORMAT
Set CADET's word wrap, and the text automatically wraps
at the specified margin as you type. Editable hard
carriage returns are displayed on screen. CADET's
Reformat is used to set new margins and to reformat
edited paragraphs to their original neatness.
Word-wrap and Reformat are only available when
accessing CADET through the new CADET-Notes interface
(see below).
CADET-NOTES
A new AutoLISP interface, CN (CADET-Notes), has been
added to the CADET system. CN is used to create a
single column of text, ideal for generating drawing
notes. CN accesses the CADET editor in a free-form
style in which utilizes CADET's new word-wrap and
reformat features.
IMPROVED SEARCH-AND-REPLACE
CADET's Search-and-Replace and Find-Text features have
three new search options. Choose to ignore case or
make case-sensitive searches. Find embedded text or
make whole word matches only. Search for the first
match below the cursor position, or search globally
from the top. Also new is the way CADET keeps the last
used search strings as defaults, simplifying repeated
searches.
RUN CADET FROM A RAM DISK
New installation procedures can give CADET a speed
boost by utilizing a ram disk. You can use a ram disk
for either CADET's transfer files, the CADET executable
program, the CADET dictionary, or any combination of
the above.
NEW INSTALLATION OPTIONS
You can now configure CADET to start-up in 43/50 row
mode for your EGA/VGA video system.
You can set CADET to leave the accelerated typematic
rate active when exiting the program, boosting cursor
speed in other applications run after CADET.
The CADET installation program, CADETIN, can now be
used to reconfigure CADET without reinstalling the
files.
Conflicts between CADET's interface command names (CE,
CC, CN and CI) and identically named commands from
other third-party programs can now be easily corrected.
MISCELLANEOUS
The [Ctrl-W] command, previously assigned to Delete
Word, is now used to set Word Wrap. The new key
assigned to Delete Word is [Ctrl-BackSpace].
The CADET editor's prompts have been streamlined and
colorized. Option hot-keys are highlighted in a
different color, and defaults are show in <brackets>.
A new program, PRINTDOC.EXE, has been provided to print
the CADET documentation. PRINTDOC can provide a 60
lines-per-page format, replace the extended IBM line
drawing characters with more universally printable
characters, and/or add hard form-feeds for printers
which have trouble maintaining the document's page
breaks in their proper places.

VERSION 2.0 (August 12, 1990)

ASP MEMBERSHIP
The author of CADET, Steve Waskow, is now a member of
the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). The
ASP maintains a high set of standards for its members,
so in choosing shareware by ASP members you can expect
quality and professionalism.
TEXT FILE IMPORT AND EXPORT
A new program, CI.LSP, has been added to the CADET
system. CI can import ASCII text files from disk into
your AutoCAD drawings. You can specify text height,
justification and line spacing, and create multiple
columns.
A new command, [Ctrl-X], has been added to the CADET
editor to export the text to a disk file. Use CE to
pull text from your drawing into the CADET editor, sort
it by rows or by columns, then use [Ctrl-X] to write
the file.
TYPEMATIC RATE ACCELERATOR
CADET now has a built in typematic rate accelerator for
IBM AT and PS/2 class computers - including most 286,
386 and 486 compatibles. The new CHKSPEED utility will
test your system compatibility.
The accelerator primarily serves to speed up the cursor
movements. Use the new [Ctrl-T] type rate command to
toggle between the three available speeds. You can
install CADET to start-up in your favorite speed.
Installation options allow you to disable the
accelerator if you are already using a resident
acceleration utility.
CHARACTER CODES
The keys used to insert AutoCAD's special characters
for overscore, underscore, plus or minus, circle
diameter and degrees symbols have been changed to a
more mnemonic set: Alt-O, Alt-U, Alt-P, Alt-C, and
Alt-D respectively. The keys used in previous CADET
versions are still supported.
MEMORY MANAGEMENT
CADET's AutoLISP interface routines CE.LSP and CC.LSP,
and the new CI.LSP utility now share a memory
management scheme which minimizes their overhead in the
AutoLISP environment. This boosts their performance
when using two or more of them during a drawing
session. If desired, you can disable the CADET memory
management scheme during installation or by setting a
configuration variable.
SORTING ORDER and SORTING COORDINATES
You can now install CADET to default to row sort order
at start-up, rather than column sort order.
CADET now uses the "insert" point of center, middle and
right justified text for row and column sorting. In
general, this gives you a better picture of the text's
organization when you are using the CADET editor. The
previous version of CADET used the lower left text
corner for sorting. If desired, you can still have
CADET sort by the lower left text corner with an
installation option or by setting a configuration
variable.
IMPROVED ATTRIBUTE EDITING
The CADET editor's status line now displays the
attribute prompts along with the block name and
attribute tag. CE.LSP now handles edited block
attributes by updating the block just once - not once
per changed attribute.
TEXT FONT STYLE
Changing text style has been simplified by having the
styles presented in alphabetical order. You can now
use the [Up] and [Down] cursor keys to move through the
list. The spacebar functions same as the [Down] key.
BLOCK OPERATIONS
A new option, Swap, has been added to the [Ctrl-M] mark
block function. Swap exchanges the marked block with
the contents of the copy buffer, simplifying many
cut-and-paste operations.
MISCELLANEOUS
The CADET installation program, CADETIN, now checks to
see if your ACAD.LSP file is encrypted prior to
installing the CADET options.
The [Ctrl-W] delete word function is better behaved
about leaving a space between the words preceding and
following the deleted word.
A bug which sometimes did not highlight a marked block
which extended to the 255th column has been corrected.
The monochrome color set has been changed to a more
pleasing combination.
A documentation formatting utility, 60LINE, has been
included to produce a 60 lines per page version of the
User's Manual, CADET.DOC. Many laser and inkjet
printers require a 60 lines per page format.
PRINTDOC, the new batch program, prints all the CADET
documentation for you.
