  3.     This Program Disk contains all the files you need to run the FLODRAW
  4.     tutorial, review the sample diagrams, and draw your own flowchart
  5.     diagrams. The Library Disk is a separate disk and contains additional
  6.     libraries, utilities, and documentation.

  8.     The Library Disk contains an INSTALL utility to help you install FLODRAW
  9.     on your system. But you can run the tutorial and review the sample
  10.     diagrams using this disk before you install FLODRAW.

  12.     This disk also contains a file called UPDATE.DOC that lists the major
  13.     features that have been added to FLODRAW 2.2.

  25.     in FLODRAW without requiring that you read a manual. If you have questions,
  26.     FLODRAW has a help system that explains most of the available functions.

  45.     FLODRAW is marketed as "Shareware".  This method of software marketing has
  46.     become increasingly popular in the last few years.  It has helped provide
  47.     the personal computer community with many quality software programs at
  48.     very reasonable prices.

  52.     Shareware is software you try before you buy.  Unlike commercial software,
  53.     the author encourages you to copy the program freely and share it with
  54.     others.  Because sharing software is encouraged, you can get copies of

  56.     libraries, bulletin board systems, and shareware vendors.

  162.     You can register by sending a registration form with payment to the
  163.     author.  There are two ways to register.

  165.          1. The registration package entitles you to a copy of the current
  166.             version of the Program Disk, Library Disk, and Symbols Disk, and
  167.             a copy of the printed FLODRAW User Manual.
  168.          2. Registration only does not include disks or a printed manual.

  183.     The Program Disk and Library Disk in the shareware version are the same as
  184.     in the registration package. Beginning with version 2.2, the registration
  185.     package contains an additional disk called a Symbols Disk. The Symbols
  186.     Disk contains all the symbols used in the FLODRAW libraries.  This disk
  187.     was excluded from the shareware version since it cannot be conveniently
  188.     documented on disk. The Symbols Disk is documented in the printed FLODRAW
  189.     User Manual. The Symbols Disk allows you to easily add, change, or delete
  190.     symbols in any of the FLODRAW libraries by using the FLOLIB utility.

  215.     FLODRAW is a flowchart drawing program that prints full page black and
  216.     white diagrams.  It will help you draw diagrams like flowcharts, system
  217.     diagrams, electrical schematics, and organization charts.
  218.  
  219.     FLODRAW is easy to learn.  A menu line prompts you at every screen.  And
  220.     context sensitive help screens are just a key press away.

  222.     Unlike many drawing programs, FLODRAW lets you draw your diagram in TEXT
  223.     mode.  You can draw symbols and lines as easy as entering text.  And
  224.     FLODRAW will generate lines or arrows between symbols to help you draw
  225.     diagrams like flowcharts.  FLODRAW has a DRAW mode for drawing circles and
  226.     lines from point to point.  And in DRAW mode you can edit any dot on the
  227.     diagram.

  229.     FLODRAW comes with symbol libraries for flowcharts, electrical schematics,
  230.     organization charts, and more.  You can design your own symbols, save
  231.     them, and combine them into new libraries, or add them to existing
  232.     libraries.

  234.     FLODRAW documents can be saved, printed, and edited again.  All FLODRAW
  235.     document files are compressed to take up a minimum amount of space on your
  236.     disk.  FLODRAW supports the following three formats for printing

  240.          2. Landscape 11 x 8.5 inches (printed sideways on 8.5 x 11)

  246.     Portrait and landscape are terms that refer to how a rectangular page is
  247.     oriented.  Portraits are upright. Landscapes are sideways.

  256.          - An IBM Personal Computer, PC-XT, PC-AT, PS/2 or close
  257.            compatible.  Some "compatible" PC's may not be compatible
  258.            enough to run FLODRAW.

  260.          - 512k of memory.
  261.  
  262.          - A color graphics adapter with either a color or black and
  263.            white monitor.  FLODRAW does not support the EGA or VGA,
  264.            although FLODRAW will run on an EGA or VGA in CGA mode.
  265.            FLODRAW does not support Hercules graphics but will work
  266.            with a Hercules board if you use software to emulate a CGA.

  268.          - Any version of IBM PC-DOS from 2.0 through 3.3 or a
  269.            compatible DOS.

  287.          Text Files (Read with DOS TYPE Command or your word processor)

  289.               UPDATE.DOC   is a text file listing the major features
  290.                            added to each new version of FLODRAW.
  291.               READ_ME      is the file you're reading.
  292.               REGISTER.FRM is the FLODRAW registration form.
  293.               VENDOR.DOC   is a text file for disk vendors.

  295.          Executable Files
  296.  
  297.               FLODRAW.EXE  is the FLODRAW program.
  298.               REGISTER.BAT is the batch file used to print the FLODRAW
  299.                            registration form.

  301.          System Files (Required by FLODRAW.EXE)

  303.               FLODRAW.CHR  is a file containing special characters.
  304.                            These characters are available with the keys
  305.                            Ctrl-A through Ctrl-Z. You can edit this file
  306.                            with FLODRAW.
  307.               FLODRAW.LIB  is the default FLODRAW symbol library.  It is
  308.                            distributed as a flowchart library.
  309.               FLODRAW.OPT  is the file of user selected options such as
  310.                            printer type, screen colors, and default font.

  312.          Tutorial and Sample Files (Can Be Read by FLODRAW.EXE)

  314.               DEMO         is the diagram file used as the FLODRAW tutorial.

  323.                   * -6-  How to Use the 20 Minute Tutorial   *

  326.     Please take the 20 minute tutorial called DEMO before trying FLODRAW on
  327.     your own.  Although I've tried to make the program as intuitive as
  328.     possible, you'll learn much faster if you let the tutorial guide you
  329.     through FLODRAW.   The tutorial was designed to show you how to use most
  330.     of the editing features in about 20 minutes.
  331.  
  332.     Taking the tutorial is easy.
  333.  
  334.          1. Put the program disk in drive A.
  335.  
  336.          2. At the A> prompt, type FLODRAW DEMO and press Enter.
  337.  
  338.          3. Your computer will load FLODRAW into memory.  FLODRAW will
  339.             read the option file, the special character file, and the library
  340.             file, and then read the DEMO file. FLODRAW will display the DEMO
  341.             file on the edit screen. Then just follow the instructions that
  342.             appear on the screen.

  346.                   * -7-  Review the Sample Diagrams          *
  347.                   ********************************************

  349.     After you've taken the DEMO tutorial, use FLODRAW to browse through the
  350.     sample diagrams. If you didn't look at the sample diagrams after
  351.     finishing DEMO you can look at them now. Here's the procedure to load
  352.     the first sample diagram with some hints on how to look at them.
  353.  
  354.          1. Put the program disk in drive A.
  355.  
  356.          2. At the A> prompt, type FLODRAW SAMPLE.01 and press Enter.
  357.  
  358.          3. When the sample diagram appears on your screen, press F2 to
  359.             get an overall view of the diagram. Then press ESC to return
  360.             to the diagram and page through the diagram using the PgUp,
  361.             PgDn, gray plus, and gray minus keys. If your keyboard doesn't
  362.             have the gray plus and minus keys, use Alt-L and Alt-R.
  363.  
  364.          4. While you're viewing the diagram, press Alt-H to get familiar
  365.             with the Help system. When the Help Screen appears, press H to
  366.             get the Help Menu. At the Help Menu, type '05' to get the Help
  367.             Screen for the AUTO function. After reviewing the Help Screen
  368.             press ESC to return to the diagram.
  369.  
  370.          5. When you're ready to go to the next sample, press Alt-N. You
  371.             can page back and forth between the pages of a multiple page
  372.             diagram by using the Alt-N and Alt-P keys.
  373.  
  374.          6. When you're ready to exit FLODRAW, press ESC to return to the
  375.             entry menu. Then type 'X' to exit. Reply 'Y' to the "Are You
  376.             Sure" prompt.
