HiPerCal
HiPerCal is a calendar management system which supports the creation,
maintenance, merging, and printing of personalized calendars. The
product is especially useful planning tool for integration and
communication of event/project calendars.
HiPerCal was written in BASIC and uses Assembler routines to perform
some of the file maintenance and screen handling functions. The BASIC
program was complied using Microsoft's QuickBASIC.
System Requirements
HiPerCal requires an IBM (or compatible) computer using MS-DOS 2.0 (or
higher) with at least 256K of available memory. A hard disk is
recommended for best results. The system only acquires disk space a
necessary to support the active calendars. A color monitor is
necessary to get the full effect of the screen layouts.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ NOTE: A printer capable of handling a print line of 172 │
│ characters is required to print a calendar. Provisions have │
│ been made to print in Landscape mode on the HP LaserJet │
│ printers. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
As distributed via the shareware service, HiPerCal supports a maximum
of a 9 calendars each managing 500 dates.
Getting Started
As always, it is recommended that you make a copy of the distribution
disk and place the original in a safe place. A brief description of
the files on the disk are contained in a file named PACKING.LST. If
you are using a hard disk, it is suggested that you set up a directory
for the HiPerCal program and associated files. The installation of
HiPerCal has been simplified via the use of the INSTALL program on the
distribution disk. After creating the environment, start the HiPerCal
system by typing 'HIPERCAL'.

Printer Setup screen has a number of predefined printers or you
can enter the ASCII codes for your particular printer.
Calendars are printed in Landscape mode (11" wide x 8.5"
long) and requires 172 characters across the page. You
will need to refer to your printer manual and set the
printer for Condensed mode, unless you have an extra wide
printer carriage.
Set Sets the highlighted notification time for the viewing of
Highlight calendars. If set to zero (0), the notification is
disabled.
***** Calendar Mode *****
When a calendar is selected, the events are displayed in date order
with items highlighted depending on the date. Each calendar uses a one
year time horizon. The information displayed includes the date and day
of the event, a status field, and the event.
Items in the calendar can have one of five statuses:
Temporary The entry will be deleted by the Clean function (see
below).
Daily When a daily items is entered you will be asked to specify
the number of days the item is to be replicated (max. 99
days). You will then be asked if you want to include
Weekends in the replication process. The entry is then
replicated based on the information provided. An expired
'D' item will be deleted by the Clean function.
Weekly The entry will be replicated for 13 weeks on the same day
of the week. An expired 'W' entry will be removed during
the Clean function.
Monthly The entry will be replicated for the same day of the month
for the entire year (12 entries). An expired 'M' entry
will be rolled out to the next year during the Clean
function.
Permanent The permanent entry will be rolled out one year during the
Clean function.
When using the Monthly status it is best to refrain from using the last
day of the month and use the first of the next month. If you use the
last day, the propagation of information will alter the day to the
LOWER of the day specified or the last day of the month. When going
from January to February, the day will be adjusted from 31 to 28.
Rolling from February to March, day 28 will be carried forward.
Entry Commands
Add Add an item to the Tickler file. See edit commands (f1).
Update Update the current entry. The status can be updated, but the
Weekly(W) or Monthly(M) attribute is not executed during the
update.
Delete Delete an item from the file. The item deleted is the
current entry which is pointed to by the Arrow "==>". You
are asked to confirm the deleting of each item.
Clean Used to mass delete items which have expired. Position the
Arrow at the first item you want to SAVE. Remember only
"past Dated" items can be cleaned. If the item has a status
of T (Temporary) or W (Weekly) the item will be deleted
during the Clean function. If the Status field is M
(Monthly) or P (Permanent) the item is not deleted, but
rolled into next year. The only way to delete a Status P or
M record is to individually delete the item.
Hist Add Used to add an entry prior to the current date. Used for
historical purposes. The Weekly(W) or Monthly(M) attribute
is not executed during the update.
***** General Technical Information *****
For speed and efficiency, HiPerCal relies on "in memory" management
control of a calendar being edited. The calendar information is
written to disk upon exiting the calendar. It is important the a
calendar session be exited properly.
