  16. MODIFYING THE ENVIRONMENT:
  17. --------------------------
  18. The  'REMINDERS' application program may require  more  intensive 
  19. disk utilization than other programs you are currently using. DOS 
  20. permits you to alter the environment to facilitate this intensive 
  21. disk utilization.
  22.  
  23. It is recommended that you create a CONFIG.SYS file (if the  file 
  24. is   not  there  already)  which  contains  the   following   two 
  25. statements.
  26.  
  27.        FILES=20
  28.        BUFFERS=8
  29.  
  30. DOS  looks  for  the CONFIG.SYS file each time  the  computer  is 
  31. turned  on  (or  "re-booted").   When  the  file  is  found,  the 
  32. operating  system  alters the environment  corresponding  to  the 
  33. contents of the file.

  35. To print the 'REMENU.DOC' file enter the following commands:
  36.  
  37.              COPY A:REMENU.DOC PRN <enter>
  38.

  40. INSTALLING 'REMINDERS' ON SYSTEMS WITH A HARD DISK DRIVE:
  41. --------------------------------------------------------
  42. The diskette that your copy of 'REMINDERS' was distributed to you 
  43. on  should  not be used for running of  'REMINDERS'.  You  should 
  44. first  make  a  back-up copy of the distribution  disk  and  then 
  45. install  'REMINDERS'  on  either your hard disk  or  floppy  disk 
  46. system.

  48. It  is  recommended  that you create a  sub-directory  that  will 
  49. contain  the 'REMINDERS' program and distribution  master  files. 
  50. The  following  DOS command will create  a  sub-directory  called 
  51. 'REMENU':
  52.  
  53.        C>MKDIR REMENU
  54.  
  55. Once  you  have created the sub-directory, select  the  new  sub-
  56. directory by entering:
  57.  
  58.        C>CHDIR REMENU
  59.  
  60. Insert  the 'REMINDERS' distribution disk in drive 'A'  and  copy 
  61. all of the files on this disk into your REMENU sub-directory with 
  62. the following command:
  63.  
  64.                       C>COPY A:*.* <return>
  65.  
  66. INSTALLING 'REMINDERS' ON A DISKETTE
  67. ---------------------------------
  68. The diskette that your copy of 'REMINDERS' was distributed to you 
  69. on  should  not be used for running of  'REMINDERS'.  You  should 
  70. first  make  a  back-up copy of the distribution  disk  and  then 
  71. install  'REMINDERS'  on  either your hard disk  or  floppy  disk 
  72. system.

  74. In order to run 'REMINDERS' on a floppy disk system you will need 
  75. two  disk drives. One drive to contain your program disk and  the 
  76. other to contain your data files.

  78. Insert the 'REMINDERS' distribution disk in drive 'A' and  select 
  79. the 'A' drive by entering "A:" (return).
  80.  
  81. Insert  a blank formatted disk into drive 'B'. This is  the  disk 
  82. that your working copy of 'REMINDERS' will be copied to.

  84. Enter the following command:
  85.  
  86.                     A>COPY A:*.* B: <return>
  87.  
  88. Reboot  your  system  then   execute  REMENU.EXE   in  order   to 
  89. initialize your system.

  92.                      *** HIDDEN FEATURE ***
  93.  
  94. Your  'REMENU  -  Ver. 1.12' has the ability  to  accept  a  file 
  95. generated  by another user of REMENU. With this feature  you  can 
  96. generate say a special file that contains only the dates for your 
  97. kids high school football or basketball games. You then can  pass 
  98. a copy of this file to other user's of REMENU an by just  loading 
  99. it  in to their computer it will be copied into their data  base. 
  100. After  it has been copied it is deleted so that duplicate  copies 
  101. of it will not be entered.
  102.  
  103. To create this 'HANDOUT.DBF' perform the following steps:
  104.  
  105. 1.  Make a unique sub-director to hold a copy of your  REMENU.EXE 
  106. program and copy it into this sub-directory.
  107.  
  108. 2.  Make sure that the 'REMVBLS.MEM' file does not exist so  that 
  109. when  you load REMENU it will initialize a new  database  without 
  110. any entries in it.
  111.  
  112. 3.  Load  REMENU and setup the date reminder's that you  wish  to 
  113. pass along to others.
  114.  
  115. 4.  After you have created these date reminder's exit REMENU  and 
  116. rename MDREMDRS.DBF to HANDOUT.DBF.
  117.  
  118. 5.  Copy only the HANDOUT.DBF file to as many blank disks as  you 
  119. wish  to distribute. Instruct the individuals that receive  these 
  120. disks  to copy the HANDOUT.DBF file into the  same  sub-directory 
  121. that  hold  their copy of REMENU.EXE. Then next  time  they  load 
  122. their  copy of REMENU.EXE it will look for this HANDOUT.DBF  file 
  123. and  append  it  into their database. It will  then  delete  this 
  124. HANDOUT.DBF file so that it will not duplicate this copy routine. 
  125. They now have the date reminders in their database.
  126.  
  127. **  Note:  If  your  friends do not have  a  copy  of  REMENU.EXE 
  128. (Reminders)  Version  1.12 let them have a copy of  yours.  While 
  129. they  will be limited to the 50 entry limit until  they  register 
  130. their  copy  they can still accept your  HANDOUT.DBF  files.  Who 
  131. knows - maybe they will become a registered user. ***
