Complete Bible Study Toolbox
Copyright 1990 - Sunrise Innovations, Inc.
Bible Expedition is the best value available in todays Computer
Bible market. A bold statement considering the many quality
programs available. However, many computer Bible programs have
been purchased with great intentions only to end up on the
shelf due to the programs lack of real usefulness.
Fast searches, hundreds of features in pull down windows and
big ticket prices have become the norm in recent years. Yet,
once you have done your fast search or you have selected
a whole list of features, you are still faced with a fairly
basic computer program.
Enter BIBLE EXPEDITION.
BOOKMARKERS Save your place in the Bible, 30 times per project/theme,
and have immediate return access.
MARGIN NOTES Enter four lines of text attached to each verse as you
do in your printed Bible. This is in addition to other
text files you may create.
SPELLING HELP BE contains a Word List of each and every word in
the King James Bible. Enter a word or fragment and
BE will check the spelling or offer a word close to
the fragment you entered.
WORD PROCESSOR BE has it's own word processor. Our WP can import
VERSES or ASCII text. It can do intratext searches,
get new files, List Bookmarkers and more. With
BE's Word Processor, you can jump back and forth
between text with the pressing of one key without
losing your text or your place in scripture.
EASY TO USE It is the easiest Bible program available today.
Simple, intuitive menus make the manual an unneeded
item.
PRICE Best of all. Our Introductory Price is just $49
(plus $3 shipping). This offer is good until
July 31, 1991 when the regular price of $69
comes into effect. Dealer prices are available
to legitimate computer dealers or bookstore owners
for quantity purchases.
BIBLE EXPEDITION.
For the student of the Bible who wants more from
their Computer Bible program than just fast verses.
Permission is granted to computer bulletin boards, shareware
distributors and individuals to copy and distribute the
DEMONSTRATION VERSION of Bible Expedition as long as no more
than $6 is charged (per copy) and Sunrise Innovations receives
a copy of your catalog (for shareware distributors only).
The full version of Bible Expedition is NOT shareware or
public domain. For your copy, write:
Sunrise Innovations, Inc.
Post Office Box 11354
Minneapolis, Minnesota 55411
Complete copies of Bible Expedition can be obtained for the
low price of $49 (plus $3 shipping). This is an introductory
price good through July 31, 1991. At that time, the regular
price will be just $69 (plus $3 shipping).
Included with complete copies of BE is the entire King James
Bible text, the complete program, a manual and six months of
written support. We will also offer registered users one
discounted upgrade as they become available.
SUNRISE INNOVATIONS AND BIBLE EXPEDITION INFORMATION
Although Sunrise Innovations is a business, it is viewed by
the stockholders and officers as a personal ministry. Our goal
is to help students of the Bible use their computers more
effectively and efficiently in the study of the Bible.
In addition to each officers individual giving at their local
church, Sunrise Innovations has written into its corporate
bylaws the directive to give a specific percentage of our profits
to board recommended ministries.
We are interested in your input. While we consider each and every
recommendation, it is impossible to implement all of them. As
input is received we consider 1) Will it help all users 2) Is it
in keeping with our goals 3) Is it feasible financially and time-wise.
If you have suggestions, we wish to hear them. Feel free to
write us at the address above.
SHAREWARE AND THE CONCEPT
Bible Expeditions Demonstration Version is considered shareware.
This means it is a working version of the program with minor
exceptions. Those exceptions are the limited number of Bible
books included and the word processor is limited in the number
of lines it will let you use.
Shareware is the term used to represent the "try before you buy"
concept of marketing. This marketing strategy allows users to
actually use the program before deciding if they'd like to
purchase it. It also allows users to freely copy the program
among friends (the demonstration version only).
Responsibility comes into play since users who decide they intend
to use the program are obligated by conscience and by Federal Law
to pay for the program. Continued use without payment is illegal
and is a sin against God. Please pay for the program if you intend
to use it.
INSTALLATION and SETUP
***Important*** Please Read Instructions BEFORE attempting Installation.
A Hard Disk is Required. If you do not have a hard disk, BE cannot
be used.
1) Insert Disk #1 into the A: drive.
Type A:INSTALL <enter>
Follow instructions of the installation program.
2) Following the Completion of the Installation program, type BE <enter>
3) From the Main Menu, type "B" to enter the Set Up area.
SEND TEXT TO DISK DRIVE Y/N
This option allows you to send text to files.
SEND TEXT TO PRINTER Y/N
This option allows you to send text to printer.
TEXT IN VERSE FORMAT Y/N
Verse format reads exactly like most printed
King James Bibles. That is, each verse represents
itself as its own individual paragraph. In non-verse
format, the text would read as one large paragraph.
Feel free to experiment to see which way you are
most comfortable.
RIGHT MARGIN 40 - 132 [60]
This option sets your right margin within the
word processor.
LEFT MARGIN 1 - 20 [5]
Sets your left margin within the word processor.
MULTIPLE WORD SEARCH RANGE 10-1000 [400]
If you are searching for Moses and Red Sea in the
same paragraph, you can set the limit of characters
present between Moses and Red Sea before BE will
stop searching and display the two word combination.
AUDIO INDICATOR Y/N
This function controls the sound indicator when
BE has located your requested text.
HIGHLIGHTED COLOR
This is the color of searched and found words and
Border colors. Choose from the colors listed at
the bottom of the Set Up screen.
TEXT COLOR
This option allows you to choose the color of regular
text. Again, choose from the colors listed at
the bottom of the Set Up screen.
PATH FOR PROJECTS
This is important. The path will be the directory
into which you would like text files saved.
You may bring in files from other directories by
changing the path. Be sure to return BE to its
original path when finished.
To Leave the Set Up Area, simply hit your ESC key and your
information will be automatically saved.
BIBLE EXPEDITIONS MAIN MENU
Bible Expedition is not intended to be a fast search
concordance. Rather, BE is a powerful tool for the serious
Bible student.
Most often, a person knows the general area of the Bible
they wish to search. TO SAVE TIME, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT
YOU BE SELECTIVE IN THE MANNER IN WHICH YOU SEARCH. For instance,
selecting ALL BOOKS to search for the name JESUS would be
inefficient. Instead, select NEW TESTAMENT or better yet,
narrow it down to a specific book or series of books.
Fast Bible Search programs are a dime a dozen. Yet, once
you have found the passage you desire, most programs are
limited in the options you have with it. BE, although not
the speed demon most other programs are, allows you to
use Bible text more effectively.
SELECTING BOOKS
To select INDIVIDUAL BOOKS, simply use your arrow keys to
the book or books desired and hit the ENTER key. This will
place a number next to the book (s) desired. This is the
order in which they will be searched. You may toggle selected
books on and off of the desired search list in the same fashion.
To select the OLD TESTAMENT, press "O". For the NEW
TESTAMENT, press "N".
For ALL BOOKS, press "A".
SPELLING HELP FOR SEARCHING
Bible Expedition contains a Word List of every word in the
King James Bible. If you are searching with Whole Word option,
BE will automatically check your word in the Word List to be
sure it exists. If you have entered it incorrectly, BE will
alert you with a message on the bottom left corner of
the screen.
To check that word or to check a word before searching,
press the "S" key and type in a fragment of the word. BE
will then offer a list of potential words. You may then
select the highlighted word by hitting ENTER or use your
arrow keys to select another word.
Once you select a word, it is placed on the main menu and
is ready to be searched.
NOTE: The spelling help function requires at least 384K of
system memory to operate. If there is not enough memory,
pressing "S" from the main menu will have no effect.
SEARCH TEXT
To enter search text (words or phrases), press "T".
At the bottom left of your screen you may enter up to
80 characters of text.
The Ctrl-Right and Ctrl-Left cursor keys move the cursor to the
next word in the indicated direction. Ctrl-End deletes from the
present cursor position to the end of the line. When you are
satisfied with the, text press ENTER.
MULTIPLE WORDS
Press "M" for multiple word search. This option will
search for words that are in a given range of each other.
To set the range, select "B" and see the Multiple Word Search
Range option.
Press "C" to make your search Case Sensitive.
Press "W" for Whole Words only. This will weed out unwanted
words and PUNCTUATION. For example, a regular search of the
word "other" will show all cases of "other" whether
it is its own word or part of another word ("mother").
BEGIN SEARCH AND VIEW TEXT
To BEGIN your search, press "V". This will begin the search
and will send you into the Text Viewer if books are selected.
BIBLE EXPEDITIONS TEXT VIEWER
When BE has found your selected text, you will enter
into the Text Viewer. You will now have many new options
from which to choose.
HELP is always available by pressing your "H" key. You
will notice that by pressing your "H" key several times
you will scroll through several help screens.
MARGIN NOTES can be made by pressing your "C" key. Your
notes will be attached directly to the verse reference your
cursor is set upon and you can enter up to four lines of text.
To leave the Margin Notes option, press ESC. You may attach
Margin Notes to each and every verse in the Bible.
NEXT OCCURRENCE. After BE has found your the first occurrence of
your search word(s), you may either page-up or page-down to
see the local text or continue to the next occurrence by
pressing the SPACE BAR. To EXIT the Text Viewer, simply
press "M" for Main Menu.
NOTE: When multiple books have been selected for searching,
you may use the "+" key to advance to the first occurrence
in the next selected book. You may also use the "-" key
to go to the first occurrence within the previous book
selected.
PROJECTS may be selected from the Text Viewer or the
Main Menu by pressing the "P" key.
BOOKMARKERS
There are two methods for creating and viewing BOOKMARKERS.
* Simple Method
From the Text Viewer press "S" and select the book
marker number you wish to use.
* Power User Method
You have 30 BOOKMARKERS per Project. By pressing
your ALT key with a corresponding Function Key a
book marker is set. For instance, pressing ALT-F1
will set your first marker. Your first 10 markers
are set as above. From F11 to F20, press ALT & Shift
& F1-F10. From F21 to F30, press ALT & CTRL & F1-F10.
Bookmarkers are saved as part of Projects.
VIEWING BOOKMARKERS
From the MAIN MENU, press "L".
From the TEXT VIEWER, press "L".
From the PROJECTED EDITOR, press ESC and "L".
A faster way to view BOOKMARKERS is to press the
corresponding Function Key. For instance, to view
Bookmarker set to F5, press F5. To view F1-F10,
simply press that function key. To view F11-F20,
press Shift & F1-F10. To view F21-F30, press CTRL
and F1-F10.
The bottom line of the screen will indicate which book marker
you are viewing. To leave BOOKMARKERS and resume a search,
press ESC.
SAVING SELECTED TEXT TO FILE
For this option, you must have selected "Y" for the
question "Sent output to disk" in the BE Setup area.
To Select FILE NAME, press "F". Enter file name, BE will
add it's own extension.
To select the BEGINNING of the TEXT BLOCK, move cursor
to the beginning of the text to be saved. Once found,
press the SHIFT and ENTER keys at the same time. This
will leave an ANCHOR at the beginning of the block to
be saved.
To select the ENDING of the TEXT BLOCK, move the cursor
to the end of the text to be saved. Once found,
press the SHIFT and ENTER keys at the same time. BE
will send your newly saved text to the end of the
existing file or will create a new file by the name
you have selected above. Your file will be created
in the Path you have designated in the Set Up area.
All Bible Text saved to a file will now go to this
file until changed by you.
HIGHLIGHT ON/OFF
You may toggle Highlighted Text by using the "Q" key.
This is useful when you have many occurrences within
one screen of text.
BIBLE EXPEDITIONS TEXT EDITOR
The TEXT EDITOR is available from the Main Menu or
the TEXT VIEWER by pressing your "E" key.
Once activated, a File Selection Menu will appear. If there
are no files created by BE or with a .TXT extension,
your only option will be NEW-FILE. Hit ENTER and enter
a file name. If other files exist, either select one of them
or create a new file name.
At all times in the TEXT EDITOR, you may see the Command Bar
by selecting your ESC key.
TEXT EDITOR OPTIONS
IMPORT You many import specific verses, BE Files
or other ASCII files.
Verse: To import a verse into your text file,
select the Verse option. Once done, BE will
offer the list of Bible books. Move the highlight
bar to the book you would like to import a verse
from and select it by hitting ENTER. After
selecting the book, you will be able to
enter the chapter and verse. Your verse will
be imported to the same place as your cursor
sits in the text editor.
File: BE will offer a list of BE-created
.TXT files and an option for "-OTHER-".
Selecting "-OTHER-" will give you the
option of importing any other ASCII file from
the current path. Simply enter the file name
and extension you wish to import. NOTE: BE
will not import file names with such extensions
as .EXE, .COM, .SYS, etc.
BE This will send you into the BE Setup area.
FIND Find allows you to find a given word or
phrase within your existing text file.
SAVE To save your text, use this option. You
will be presented with the file menu and
there you can select a file name. Also,
you may save portions of text to files by
using the COPY feature (below). Portions
of text saved to exising files will append
that file and not overwrite it.

one, select GET.
LIST This will allow you to view your bookmarkers
and even select one for viewing.
COPY This is a cut and paste feature. To select
text to be copied, press SHIFT and ENTER
at the same time where you'd like to mark
the beginning of the text block. Now, move
to the end of the block of text you'd like
copied and repeat the procedure. Once done,
move your cursor to the place at which you'd like
the text copied. Press ESC and C (for Copy)
and your text will be inserted there.
DELETE This works the same as COPY but deletes
the marked text block instead of copying
it.
PRINT If markers are set, text between markers
will be printed. If no markers are set,
the entire file is printed. All files are
sent to LPT1.
