-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This release of CCHESS:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
o This is the third release of CCHESS (version 1.0 was released
8/14/87 with PC-VCO). A few enhancements have been made, and few
problems corrected.
o This version of CCHESS will not support paged redisplay with versions
of COM-AND later than 2.7, or before version 2.1. Other than that,
it will work happily with any version of COM-AND.
o Run instructions and installation procedures will be found following
this page.
o Any problems reported to the developer either through the U.S.
Mail or PLINK Mail or GEnie Mail will receive attention. You may
contact the author:

Run instructions:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To run CCHESS with PROCOMM, QMODEM, etc.
(Install the release as described on the next page)
(Load your communication program, and dial your favorite service)
(Shell to DOS, and change to CCHESS's subdirectory)
C> CCHESS/P
(Run this way, CCHESS's functionality is limited. Transcripting
and playback aren't available. All other CCHESS functions will
work just fine.)
To run CCHESS (if COM-AND is available):
(Install the release as described on the next page)
C> CCHESS
(Run this way, there is only the one accessory (CCHESS) available
to COM-AND. CCHESS, which you loaded above, loaded COM-AND,
in case that isn't clear. Press F1 to switch to game mode.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Set your current subdirectory to the subdirectory where you wish
to install CCHESS... where you've already installed version 1.0
(if you have it)... where you've installed COM-AND (if you have).
2) Dearc the distribution file.
3) Load CCHESS 'piggyback' (for installation purposes), i.e.:
C> CCHESS/P <return>
. Check Alt-S
.. If "Text Lines" is 2, set it to 10. Unless you want 2...
.. Remember to save the new settings.
. Check Alt-P
.. Choose the COM port you use (1/2/3/4).
.. Default speed selection is not important if you always use
the COM-AND or load CCHESS piggyback. But set it anyway.
.. Remember to save new settings.
4) Exit CCHESS with Alt-X

Additions and corrections:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
CCHESS additions and changes:
-----------------------------
o CCHESS version 1.1 occaisional difficulty with a carriage return
received during move prompt has been corrected.
o CCHESS version 1.1 EGA extension has been improved and corrected.
o Hercules mode has been corrected to work with a broader range of
Hercules clones (BIOS recursion has been accomodated).
o Piggyback mode now correctly restores comm interrupts and settings.
This was not a problem per se, with most comm programs... but now
it works as intended (and PRO-YAM doesn't complain).
o Left and right cursors now change the pull-down menu when a pull-
down is 'down'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Known bugs in the current release:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
o I've had no suggestions to date on how to handle coronation.

Related release; COM-AND:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COM-AND was originally released with Version 2.0 of PC-VCO. COM-AND
is a fully functional communications program, designed to support
integrated 'accessory' programs like CCHESS.
COM-AND supports multiple dialing directories, multiple macro
definition files, a powerful script language, Windowed XMODEM,
XMODEM, YMODEM (BBS style), Batch-YMODEM, CIS-B, CIS Quick-B,
KERMIT, and Super KERMIT.
COM-AND is being distributed (its ninth release) as CA28-1.ZIP
(executable), CA28-2.ZIP (documents), CA28-3.ZIP (scripts), and
CA28-4.ZIP (advanced script programming. COM-AND requires 384k,
DOS 2.0 or above. COM-AND may be used on either MDA, CGA, EGA
or Hercules adapters.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Related release; PC-VCO:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PC-VCO is Visual Conferencing for the IBM PC. It is completely
compatible with all three flavors of MacIntosh VCO/VMCO. It has
been in use for more than a year by several groups of people. On
GEnie, the IBM RT has a regularly scheduled VCO conference every
Wednesday at 9PM Eastern Standard Time.
The concept of VCO is that each conference attendee draws a set of
16 (or 18) ICONs, and posts them publically. Other attendees down-
load the ICONs (called face files), and add them to their own lib-
rary of faces. 8 (or 9) expressions (happy, sad, etc) are supported.
When someone speaks in a VCO conference, the appropriate ICON is
displayed on all PC-VCO screens. People who've not uploaded face
files are depicted as Charlie Brown, Don Martin, or OPUS.
PC-VCO interfaces to a public domain text-to speech synthesizer.
The quality is less than might be desired, but its a start!
PC-VCO is being distributed (its seventh release) as PC-VCO22.ZIP.
PC-VCO may be used on either CGA, EGA or Hercules graphics adapters.

Related release; CBRIDGE:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CBRIDGE is Conference Bridge - four people can play bridge over
PLINK's PARTY, CIS CB, etc. CBRIDGE deals cards, displays hands,
displays (and protects) the bidding, and monitors game play.
Bidding can be reviewed at any time, as can game play.
Version 1.1 is a proven accessory. [Version 1.0 was released as a
beta.] It may be 'rough' in spots... I am looking for comments,
criticisms and thoughts from those interested in on-line interactive
gaming.
CBRIDGE is being distributed (its second release) as CBRIDG11.ZIP.
Please read the CBRIDG.DOC document for a description of CBRIDGE.
CBRIDGE may be used on either MDA, CGA, EGA or Hercules adapters.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Related release; CCOLOR:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CCOLOR is another accessory for conferencing. It tracks the conver-
sation, and assigns different colors to each speaker. Each speaker's
text is highlighted and easy to see. Of course, a color adapter,
CGA or EGA is required. It has to be seen to be appreciated!
CCOLOR is being distributed (its second release) as CCOLOR13.ZIP.
CCOLOR may be used on either CGA, or EGA adapters.
