  4. Over the years, I have mastered many of the tricks on Pyroto.  Amongst the most
  5. useful are the messaging gimmicks...

  8. SENDING PRIVATE MESSAGES
  9. ------------------------
  10.  
  11. If you need privacy,  you can set aside the remainder of a message,  so that it
  12. can only be read by the people that you list.  (NOTE:  TSOTL does not encourage
  13. this  sort of thing,  so if you want to earn his esteem with a private message,
  14. you'll have to work  extra hard.   It's easier, in the long run, to use private
  15. messages only when ABSOLUTELY needed.)

  17. To declare the  remainder  of a message as private, start your line like this:

  24. For example,  let's say  you've typed a few lines for general consumption,  and
  25. wish to set aside  the rest  of the message for  FREDZO, MARIO and BERNIE.  You
  26. would do it this way:

  29. : <<FREDZO><MARIO><BERNIE>> Hi, guys! :

  33. If you want to make sure you understand this technique,  send a private message
  34. that  doesn't  include your own name in the list.   (Why should it, after all?)
  35. Then,  use the TIMEWARP command to warp back a few minutes.   Re-read your mes-
  36. sage.   If you  can't read  the private section, you got it right!

  38. You can  use this technique  to reserve several "Privates" in one message.

  41. HOW TO TALK BEHIND SOMEBODY'S BACK
  42. ----------------------------------

  44. This one's  a lot of  fun:  you can set aside part of your message such that it
  45. can read only by people who  AREN'T  in the  list of names.  An example:  let's
  46. say you're  planning  a surprise  party for  JOE and HAROLD.  You'd put this in
  47. front of the relevant text:

  50. : ><JOE><HAROLD><  Say, everybody,    :
  51. : let's give Joe & Harold a party!    :

  54. ...and so forth.   JOE and HAROLD would not be able to read the following text.

  57. HOW TO DEAL WITH TOO MANY FRIENDS

  60. If you simply can't  fit  all the names for a Private or an Exclusive on one 80
  61. character line, simply stack them:

  70. USING SEVERAL GIMMICKS IN ONE MESSAGE

  73. You can freely mix  Privates  and  Exclusives.  Here's the way you'd  type up a
  74. short message that uses all these techniques:

  97. SPECIFYING A RANGE OF LEVELS
  98. ----------------------------

  100. Moreover,  you can  specify  a range of levels in an exclusive or private,  and
  101. inter-mix these with names:

  119. Finally, you don't  have  to put the private and exclusive headers on different
  120. lines; you can  separate them  with one or more spaces, as follows:

  128. If all this  sounds complicated to you,  start by experimenting with simple pri-
  129. vate messages to  one person.  Then try  some of the other tricks later on!
