Introduction To StatMaster Shareware Version 2.1
StatMaster Desktop Demographics is a stand-alone database containing thou-
sands of demographic, economic, and geographic statistics published by the
Bureau of the Census. There are 50 individual state versions of this program,
and each version contains census information for the entire United States, its
4 regions, 9 divisions, 50 states, Washington DC, and every county, city, and
place with a population of over 2,500 in a single state.
StatMaster answers the needs of advertising agencies, banks, building con-
tractors, educators, federal and state governments, franchising organizations,
fund raising groups, hospitals and HMO's, insurance companies, libraries, man-
ufacturing concerns, marketing firms, planning agencies, political organiza-
tions, restaurant chains, recruiting agencies, retail conglomerates, schools
(sixth grade through post-grad), service industries, site-selection organiza-
tions, venture capitalists, wholesale businesses, and virtually any organiza-
tion or business that deems it prudent to test intuition against cold, hard
numbers.
Each shareware version contains an average of 18,000 statistics. Stat-
Master provides a full-featured database manager that allows you to rank, dis-
play, and perform queries on every statistic in the database. StatMaster will
run on any IBM PC-compatible computer with a hard drive and 640K of RAM.
You'll find that StatMaster is very intuitive and easy to use... sixth-graders
can use StatMaster after just one introductory session. StatMaster was de-
signed for use in libraries where users must be able to walk up and immediate-
ly begin using the software.
StatMaster provides the information you need to improve strategic plan-
ning, advertising, direct marketing, and site selection activities. This
product can save you hours or even days of research on presentations, arti-
cles, and homework. This shareware version contains data from the Census
Bureau's 1988 County and City Data Book; registration brings you all this
data plus the latest 1990 decennial census data.
Furthermore, the retail version will permit you to export all text and
data into word processors, databases, spreadsheets, graphics presentation
packages, and mapping programs. This capability permits you to quickly
create bar charts, pie charts, 3-D charts, color-coded maps and allow you to
use these tools in slides, transparencies, and electronic slide shows. The
business, educational, and personal uses for this highly tangible form of
information will be limited only by your imagination.
You may return to the menu now (by pressing the Esc key) and read the
other documents if you wish. If you prefer to jump right in and start using
StatMaster, just press Esc to return to the menu, then exit to DOS. A message
on the screen will tell you how to start StatMaster. Because it's a read-
only database, it's virtually impossible to damage StatMaster by using it.
Feel free to play with the program. Experiment with the keys. You'll be sur-
prised how fast you're able to master the features of this unique new genre of
software.
