  7. Please read this document first before anything else. This document

  20. 1. Intended Use
  21. ---------------
  22.  
  23. This program package is a financial accounting manager for home or
  24. small business use. Anyone familiar with a regular checkbook can
  25. quick start use it.
  26.  
  27. 2. Disk Packing List
  28. --------------------
  29.  
  30. The EliteCheck v1.1 program package should contain the following
  31. files:
  32.  
  33. EC.EXE         The EliteCheck program
  34. EC.REF         EliteCheck Reference Id
  35. EC.HLP         On-line help file
  36. READ.ME        A text file that you must read first before you use
  37.                the program
  38. PACKING.LST    List of files in your packgage
  39. INSTALL.EXE    Installation program
  40. MANUAL.DOC     On disk User Manual
  41. VENDOR.DOC     Vendor distribution information
  42. REGISTER.DOC   Registration and license information
  43. REGISTER.FRM   Registration Form
  44. ECFILES.EXE    Utility program to increase files parameter in the
  45.                CONFIG.SYS file
  46.  
  47. 3. Important Files to Read
  48. --------------------------
  49.  
  50. Anyone wishing to use this program must read this file first. The
  51. MANUAL.DOC file contains a full description on how to use
  52. EliteCheck. To register your use of EliteCheck, read the
  53. REGISTER.DOC file and follow the instructions.
  54.  
  55. Shareware distributors, disk vendors, computer clubs, and BBS
  56. SYSOPs must read the VENDOR.DOC file.
  57.  
  58. The following text files can be printed to your printer:
  59.  
  60.      READ.ME        PACKING.LST    MANUAL.DOC     VENDOR.DOC
  61.      REGISTER.DOC   REGISTER.FRM
  62.  
  63. If you want to print any of above text files, you could use the
  64. COPY command to print it. For example, to print the MANUAL.DOC file
  65. to your printer, insert the disk that contains the MANUAL.DOC file
  66. in drive A and type this command:
  67.  
  68.      COPY A:\MANUAL.DOC PRN
  69.  
  70. If you are a registered user, you do not need to print the
  71. MANUAL.DOC file since your package includes a printed User Manual.
  72.  
  73. 4. First Things to do
  74. ---------------------
  75.  
  76. 1)   Make sure that the EliteCheck distribution disk has all the
  77.      files listed above.
  78.  
  79. 2)   Make a backup copy of your EliteCheck distribution disk.
  80.  
  81. 3)   Make sure that your computer has:
  82.  
  83.      -    DOS 3.0 or later version
  84.      -    minimum 512K memory
  85.      -    two floppy disk drives or hard drive
  86.      -    the CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory of your boot
  87.           disk that contains a line:
  88.  
  89.                FILES=nn
  90.  
  91.           in which nn must be at least 15.
  92.  
  93. 5. Using ECFILES utility to check the CONFIG.SYS file
  94. -----------------------------------------------------
  95.  
  96. To ensure that the CONFIG.SYS file has a FILES parameter properly,
  97. you can use ECFILES utility program supplied with this package.
  98.  
  99. To run ECFILES, simply invoke it and follow the instructions given
  100. by the program.

  103. 6. Installing EliteCheck
  104. -------------------------

  108.      If you obtained the EliteCheck package in an archived file and
  109.      decompressed it on your disk, you are already ready to start
  110.      using EliteCheck. In that case, skip this section.

  116.      1)   Start your computer.
  117.  
  118.      2)   Insert the EliteCheck Install disk in drive A.
  119.  
  120.      3)   Run the INSTALL.EXE by typing as follows:
  121.  
  122.                A:INSTALL C:\EC
  123.  
  124.           The Installation program will automatically install
  125.           EliteCheck to the \EC directory in drive C. If you want
  126.           to install EliteCheck to a directory other than \EC,
  127.           simply replace C:\EC with the directory path name you
  128.           want when you invoke the installation program.
  129.  
  130.           If the specified directory does not exist, INSTALL.EXE
  131.           will automatically create it.

  134. |  | To Install EliteCheck with Two Floppy Drives

  137. To use EliteCheck without a hard disk, you need two floppy disk
  138. drives: one for a EliteCheck program disk and the other for a data
  139. disk. To install EliteCheck to a floppy diskette, do the following
  140. steps:
  141.  
  142.      1)   Start your computer with a DOS system diskette.
  143.  
  144.      2)   Insert the EliteCheck Install disk in drive A.
  145.  
  146.      3)   Insert a formatted blank diskette in drive B.
  147.  
  148.      3)   Run the INSTALL.EXE by typing as follows:
  149.  
  150.                A:INSTALL B:\
  151.  
  152.           While running the INSTALL program, follow the
  153.           instructions on the screen.
  154.  
  155.           The Installation program will install EliteCheck to the
  156.           root directory in drive B.
  157.  
  158. 7. Starting EliteCheck
  159. ----------------------
  160.  
  161. To start EliteCheck on a hard disk:
  162.  
  163.      1)   Change current directory to the EliteCheck directory.
  164.  
  165.                     C>CD C:\EC
  166.  
  167.      2)   Invoke EliteCheck by typing EC followed by <ENTER> key.

  171. To start EliteCheck on a floppy disk:
  172.  
  173.      1)   Make sure that your computer was booted from the DOS disk
  174.           that contains the CONFIG.SYS file with a line 'FILES=15'
  175.           (or greater than 15).
  176.  
  177.      2)   Insert EliteCheck program disk in drive A.
  178.  
  179.      3)   Invoke EliteCheck by typing EC followed by <ENTER> key.

  183.      4)   Insert your data disk in drive B when EliteCheck
  184.           instructs you to do so.

  186. If your monitor screen becomes unreadable when you start
  187. EliteCheck, start EliteCheck with /M option:
  188.  
  189.      C:>EC /M

  191. 8. First-Time Account Setup
  192. ---------------------------
  193.  
  194. When you start EliteCheck for the first time, EliteCheck will bring
  195. up the Account Setup Window. Enter required information on the
  196. blank entries in the Account Setup Window as follows:
  197.  
  198.      Account Type:  Select either BUSINESS or PERSONAL based on
  199.                     how you will use your first account. To select
  200.                     the account type, press Space bar.
  201.  
  202.      Account Name:  Enter 1-25 alpha-numeric characters to
  203.                     identify your account.
  204.  
  205.      Account No:    Enter the account number (or anything to
  206.                     describe the account). You may leave this
  207.                     entry blank.
  208.  
  209.      Balance:       Enter the amount of opening balance.
  210.  
  211.      As of:         Enter the opening date.
  212.  
  213. To move between entries, use the following keys:
  214.  
  215.      UP Arrow       move up
  216.      DOWN Arrow     move down
  217.      TAB            move to next entry
  218.      Shift-TAB      move to previous entry
  219.      ENTER          move to next entry or complete the account
  220.                     setup if pressed in the last entry
  221.  
  222. 9. Exiting EliteCheck
  223. ---------------------

  225. To exit EliteCheck, do the following steps:
  226.  
  227.      1)   If none of the menu items on the top line of the screen
  228.           is highlighted, press <ESC> until one of them becomes
  229.           highlighted.
  230.  
  231.      2)   If Quit menu item is not highlighted, press right arrow
  232.           key until Quit menu item gets highlighted.
  233.  
  234.      3)   Press <ENTER>.
  235.  
  236.      4)   When you see a pulldown menu item saying "Exit to DOS",
  237.           press E or <ENTER>.
