  27. MODIFYING THE ENVIRONMENT:
  28. --------------------------

  30. The 'PEN PAL' application program may require more intensive disk
  31. utilization than other programs you are currently using. DOS permits
  32. you to alter the environment to facilitate this intensive disk
  33. utilization.
  34.  
  35. It is recommended that you create a CONFIG.SYS file (if the file is
  36. not there already) which contains the following two statementes.
  37.  
  38.        FILES=20
  39.        BUFFERS=8
  40.  
  41. DOS looks for the CONFIG.SYS file each time the computer is turned on
  42. (or "re-booted").  When the file is found, the operating system alters
  43. the environment corresponding to the contents of the file.

  47. INSTALLING 'PEN PAL' ON SYSTEMS WITH A HARD DISK DRIVE:
  48. --------------------------------------------------------

  50. The diskette that your copy of 'PEN PAL' was distributed to you on
  51. should not be used for running of 'PEN PAL'. You should first make
  52. a back-up copy of the distribution disk and then install 'PEN PAL'
  53. on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.
  54.  
  55. We recommended that you create a sub-directory that will contain the
  56. 'PEN PAL' program and distribution master files. The following DOS
  57. commands will create a sub-directory called 'PENPAL':
  58.  
  59.        C>CD\
  60.        C>MD\PENPAL
  61.  
  62. Once you have created the sub-directory, select the new sub-directory
  63. by entering:
  64.  
  65.        C>CD\PENPAL
  66.  
  67. Insert the 'PEN PAL' distribution disk into drive 'A'.
  68.  
  69. Next, copy the contents of your distribution disk on to your hard disk
  70. by execuiting the following command:
  71.  
  72.       C>COPY A:*.* C:
  73.  
  74. Remove your 'PEN PAL' distribution disk from drive 'A'.
  75.  
  76. Reboot your system in order to load the new values in your CONFIG.SYS
  77. file.

  79. Make your 'PEN PAL' sub-directory your current directory:

  82.  
  83. Load 'PEN PAL' in order to initialize your data files.

  87. Upon completion of your system initialization you will be returned
  88. to your system prompt. Reload 'PEN PAL' in order to start using it.

  98. The diskette that your copy of 'PEN PAL' was distributed to you on

  101. on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.

  103. In order to run 'PEN PAL' on a floppy disk system you will need two
  104. disk drives. One drive to contain your program disk and the other to
  105. contain your data files. ** NOTE - THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE FOR BOTH
  106. THE 'PEN PAL' PROGRAM AND YOUR DATA FILES ON THE SAME FLOPPY DISK. *

  108. Insert the 'PEN PAL' distribution disk in drive 'A' and select the 'A'
  109. drive by entering "A:" (return).
  110.  
  111. Insert a blank FORMATED DISK into drive 'B'. This is the disk that your
  112. working copy of 'PEN PAL' will be copied to.
  113.  
  114. Enter the following command:
  115.  
  116.        A>COPY A:*.EXE B:
  117.  
  118. Upon completion of this copy operation remove your disk from drive 'A'
  119. and replace with the new program disk in drive 'B'.
  120. Load a new diskette for data files into drive 'B'.
  121.  
  122. Reboot your system then execute PENPAL.EXE in order to initialize your
  123. system.

  125. Load 'PEN PAL' in order to initialize your data files.

  129. Upon completion of your system initialization you will be returned
  130. to your system prompt. Reload 'PEN PAL' in order to start using it.

  151. SOFTWARE,  REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF CLAIM. THE  PERSON
  152. USING THE SOFTWARE BEARS ALL RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND
  153. PERFORMANCE  OF THE SOFTWARE. Some states do not  allow
  154. the   exclusion   of  the  limit   of   liability   for
  155. consequential  or  incidental  damages,  so  the  above
  156. limitation may not apply to you.

  158. This  agreement  shall be governed by the laws  of  the
  159. State of Texas and shall inure to the benefit of  MICRO
  160.  
  161. DATA  ASSIST and any successors, administrators,  heirs
  162. and assigns. Any action or proceeding brought by either
  163. party  against the other arising out of or  related  to
  164. this  agreement  shall be brought only in  a  STATE  or
  165. FEDERAL  COURT  of competent  jurisdiction  located  in
  166. Collin County, Texas. The parties hereby consent to  in
  167. personam jurisdiction of said courts.

  169. This  is  copyrighted software. You are  not  obtaining
  170. title to the software or any copyright rights. You  may
  171. not   sub-license,   rent,   lease,   convey,   modify,
  172. translate,  convert  to another  programming  language,
  173. decompile,  or dissemble the software for any  purpose.
  174. You  may  make as many copies of this software  as  you
  175. need for back up purposes. You may use this software on
  176. more than one computer, provided there is no chance  it
  177. will be used simultaneously on more than one  computer.
