  18. 1. Purpose of EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects collection.
  19.  
  20. This collection allows to create dynamic HTML pages for the Intranet or Internet (interactive Web pages).
  21. The development tool needed to create such CGI-scripts is Microsoft Visual Basic 5 with Service Pack 2 or 3.
  22. The technique these objects use to communicate with the Web server is the standardized CGI method (NOT Win-CGI).
  23. They proved to work with every Web server running on Windows 95/NT supporting standard CGI (e.g. MS 
  24. Personal Web Server, MS Internet Information Server, Netscape Enterprise Server, Apache NT-Server, 
  25. WebSite, Lotus Domino, ...) and any Web browser who supports HTML 3.2 (e.g. MS Internet Explorer 3 and 4, 
  26. Netscape Navigator 3 and 4, ...).
  27. All three objects are native compiled ActiveX-DLL's and thus don't need a startup form.

  29. The EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects collection consist of:
  30. - VB5CGI object for full low-level CGI functionality.
  31. - VB5HTML object for easy HTML authoring.
  32. - VB5DB object for simple dynamic MS-Access type database connection.
  33. - Library Loader application, which increases the server performance by loading the objects and other DLL's 
  34.   in memory and allows to edit the hit counter values.
  35. - HTML to VB converter application, which converts HTML from your preferred editor to Visual Basic code.

  37. The collection contains several detailed help files and examples.

  40. 2. Installation and Removal.
  41.  
  42. There are two different Installation files available:
  43. - a small size file (TRIAL EDITION: vb5-cgi_trial_201.zip or cgit201.zip; Registered version: vb5-cgi_201.zip)
  44.   which contains no VB5 DLL's and therefore needs a pre-installed Visual Basic version 5 with Service Pack 2 or 3.
  45. - and a big size file (TRIAL EDITION: vb5-cgi_trial_201_dll.zip or cgit201l.zip; Registered version: vb5-cgi_201_dll.zip)
  46.   which contains all needed VB5 and DAO3.5 libraries and already compiled examples.
  47.   To run these compiled examples you have to copy them from the '\Samples' to your servers script directory 
  48.   (e.g. 'Scripts' or 'cgi-bin') and edit the associated HTML files accordingly (see overview help file).

  50. For further CGI development you need a properly installed Visual Basic version 5.
  51. Also, be sure you already got the Service Pack 2 or 3 for Visual Basic 5 from Microsoft, which fixes a number of 
  52. problems in VB5 and needs to be installed using the objects properly.
  53. You can download the Service Pack 3 (12.3MB) from the Web at http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/vs97sp/vb.asp.

  55. After unzipping the installation files to a temporary directory, run the SETUP.EXE file and follow the instructions.
  56. To remove the VB5-CGI objects with all related files go to the 'Control Panel' and select 'Add/Remove Programs'. 
  57. From the list of installed programs select 'EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects 2.01 TRIAL EDITION' or 
  58. 'EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects 2.01'  and press the [Add/Remove...] button. 
  59. The files and folders you created will NOT be removed.

  62. 3. Program status and TRIAL EDITION license.

  64. The 'EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects' are distributed as Shareware.
  65. You are hereby licensed to use this software for evaluation purposes without charge for an undefined period of time. 
  66. If you want to use this software commercially, you have to obtain the registered version.
  67. Provided that you verify that you are distributing the 'EazyWare VB5-CGI Objects TRIAL EDITION', you are hereby 
  68. licensed to make as many copies of this version of this software and documentation as you wish; give exact copies 
  69. of them to anyone, and distribute the software and documentation in its unmodified form via electronic means. 
  70. There is no charge for any of the above.
