- c. I have set rather high goals for myself based upon a belief that
- most achievements in life do not come without a considerable amount of
- effort. I am usually not intimidated by challenges since they often
- bring out hidden abilities or at the least, utilize strengths that are
- recognized.
-
- In the past, I have achieved most of my academic and personal
- goals by a combination of talent and perseverence. I feel that I have
- a clear sense of priorities and organization. Often I will sacrifice
- a social activity due to an important deadline, commitment or
- obligation. While some might consider this method of thinking to be
- rigid and overly structured, I can attribute many of my most
- significant accomplishments to it.
-
- As evidenced by my previous statement on extracurricular
- involvement, I enjoy and actively seek to work with others whenever
- possible. I feel that interaction yields a particular mode of
- thinking and creates a framework for synergies to arise. Due to my
- enthusiastic philosophy towards group activity and usual acceptance of
- a challenge, I often end up serving in a leadership capacity. On any
- type of group project I have ever been involved with, I am always
- willing to listen to reasonable thoughts and constructive criticism,
- as I feel that no individual is beyond the point of further learning.
- I also take a certain amount of pride in thinking that I've helped
- others to express ideas that normally would have been suppressed
- without the correct degree of encouragement.
-
- My overall contention is that one must succeed at interaction due
- to the structure of society today. With people specializing wherever
- possible, we are becoming increasingly interdependent upon each
- other's skills, knowledge and expertise. Thus, effective interaction
- and communication have become and should continue to be essential
- components in setting and achieving goals. It is for this reason that
- I have always tried to incorporate brainstorming, participation and
- evaluation into my methodology for problem solving and philosophy for
- success.
