README.TXT
******************************************************************
This file contains information about Managing Your Money for
Windows, version 1.0.
******************************************************************
KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES
******************************************************************
A. Diamond Viper and ATI Graphics Ultra Pro Video Cards: If you
use one of these cards, and choose to run with 16 colors at
high resolution (800x600 or above), the SmartDesk screen does
not display correctly. You can switch to 256 colors (or
more) using the utilities provided by the video card
manufacturer to correct this.
B. High Resolution video cards: On some high resolution video
cards running with 256 colors or greater, the displayed
colors may be incorrect in other applications after running
Managing Your Money. Restarting the other application
corrects this condition.
C. Printer Drivers: Older versions of Windows printer drivers
may produce dropped characters in reports, including early
versions of drivers for the Hewlett Packard DeskJet, LaserJet
IIIP and the LaserJet IV. Ensure that you have the latest
version of the driver from your hardware or system vendor.
In addition, many drivers are available from vendor bulletin
board systems.
D. Print Checks: Citizen 180D printers and some Panasonic
printers do not print multiple pin-feed checks correctly with
the Windows drivers that were available at the release of
Managing Your Money. You can either print one check at a
time, or set the printer up to emulate another printer such
as an Epson, and then use that driver.
E. Errors: If you receive an error message which reads "General
Application Error" you should record what you were doing when
when the error occurred, and then contact technical support.
This is NOT the same as a Windows General Protection Fault.

INSTALLATION
******************************************************************
A. Virus Checking: Some virus checking programs may cause
problems during the installation of Managing Your Money.
If you receive an alert from your virus checking software,
either ignore the alert and continue, or exit the
installation and disable the virus checking before repeating
the installation.
B. Compressed Drives: If you are installing Managing Your Money
to a compressed drive, including those controlled by Double-
Space, Stacker, and AddStor, Setup may receive incorrect
information regarding the available disk space. If the
installation does not complete successfully, you must free
some additional space on the drive, and then run Setup again.
C. Disk Space:
1. In addition to the disk space needed for the program
files, Managing Your Money requires at least 500K of disk
space for your data. If you do not have this much space
available after installation, you must free additional space
for your new or imported data.
2. If you do not want to use disk space for the Managing
Your Money tutorial, you can delete the file MYMTUTOR.EXE.
To reinstall the file, you must reinstall Managing Your
Money.
D. Graphs: Managing Your Money for Windows uses a program
called GSW.EXE to display graphs. If another application
which uses this program is installed AFTER the installation
of Managing Your Money, you may be unable to display graphs.
You can correct this condition (if it occurs) by copying
GSW.EXE and GSWDLL.DLL from your MYMWIN directory to your
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

IMPORT
******************************************************************
A. Managing Your Money for DOS, versions 9 and 10:
1. Transaction sorting: We recommend that you sort your
MYM-DOS transactions (payments, deposits, etc.) in DATE
order prior to import. The import order will be the DOS
sort order. You can re-sort the transaction register at any
time after import.
2. Linked money accounts: Portfolio accounts which have
linked money accounts are MERGED with the linked money
account during import. If you do NOT want this to happen,
you should unlink the accounts in MYM-DOS prior to import.
If your portfolio account is NOT linked, you must link the
account and then delete and re-enter ALL investment income
transactions for the accounts to merge correctly.
3. Check Numbers: Existing check numbers over 32767 will not
import correctly. You must edit these check numbers after
import to correct them.
4. Loans: Loans import ONLY from the current payment
FORWARD. Earlier payments are in their respective bank
accounts, but do not show in the amortization schedule.
Principal amounts in Quicks or Alerts for loans are allocated
to the loan account itself, not to the principal category.
5. CMA Accounts: CMA accounts and Money Market accounts
convert as "Other Asset" accounts in Managing Your Money for
Windows. If you utilize your CMA or Money Market account as
a checking account in the DOS version, we recommend that you
set the type to "Checking" before import. It is NOT possible
to change the account type after import.
B. QIF Import: You can import QIF files which match those
produced by Quicken for DOS or Quicken for Windows:
1. Investment Transactions: QIF Investment transactions are
NOT imported into this version of Managing Your Money.
2. Account and Category Lists: We strongly recommend that
you export your account and category lists to separate QIF
files and import them prior to importing your transactions.
The Import procedure prompts you for these files first. If
you chose not to import the account list first, you may find
transactions in wrong accounts, accounts labeled with the
wrong type, or duplicate accounts with similar names. After
you have completed this step, you must still import the
transactions for each account.
3. CA-Simply Money: You must export a QIF file for each
account separately for Managing Your Money to import it
correctly; CA-Simply Money defaults to exporting ALL accounts
into a single QIF file. To correct this, select "Strict QIF"
on the Simply Money export screen, then select the Include
button, highlight a SINGLE account, and complete the export.
Repeat this step for each account.
4. Transfer Transactions in CA-Simply Money: Transfer
transactions are not imported. They are noted in the log
file (QIFIMPRT.LOG) so that you can re-enter them.
5. Account Allocations in CA-Simply Money: Account
allocations are not correctly exported from CA-Simply Money
and will import as "Unallocated Income" or "Unallocated
Expense." You can re-allocate these transactions in Managing
Your Money for Windows.
6. Duplicate Transactions: We strongly recommend that you
check the "Check for Duplicate Transactions" box on the
import screen; this prevents transfer transactions from being
imported into BOTH accounts.
7. Addresses: Only the first three address lines are
imported.
8. Memorized Transactions: All memorized transactions are
imported as UNSCHEDULED. You can change this in Managing
your Money by editing the transaction on the Memorized
Transaction List.

FEATURES
******************************************************************
A. Liability Accounts: Credit Card accounts, "Other Liability"
accounts, and Loans are handled differently in Managing Your
Money for Windows than in Managing Your Money for DOS and
some other financial programs. These accounts show a
POSITIVE balance when you OWE money, and a NEGATIVE balance
when you are OWED money (for example, when you overpay VISA
one month).
B. QuoteLink Import: QuoteLink Import displays on the
File->Import menu. It is not active; this import option is
intended for use with a future companion product.
C. Reports: Reports which are dependent on date ranges, such as
transaction reports, default to a "Year to Date" range; this
includes "ZOOM" reports. If you get a message that says "No
data is available for this report," check the date range you
have selected. For "ZOOM" reports, you can not set the date
range.
D. Loans: Editing of existing loans should be done from the
Amortization Schedule. You can change the account, principal
and interest amounts, and escrows all from this screen.
E. Taxes: The following Tax Categories are not imported into
TaxCut '93 (They do appear in the TXF file):
Token Description
----- -----------
267 Moving Expense Reimbursement (Form 1040)
382 Automobile Expense (Form 2106)
391 Employee Home Office (Form 2106)
433 Gross Profit Percentage (Form 6252)
465 Dependent Care Benefits (Form W-2)
487 Dividend Income Non-taxable (Schedule B)
488 Dividend Income Capital Gain Distribution (Schedule B)
512 Dependent Care Benefits Spouse (Form W-2)
The following Tax Categories will not export to tax software,
unless they are entered in MYMWIN in a sales format (have
both a buy and sell for the transaction):
Token Description
----- -----------
321 ST gain/loss-security (Schedule D)
322 ST gain/loss-other (Schedule D)
323 LT gain/loss-security (Schedule D)
324 LT gain/loss-other (Schedule D)
419 LT dep. loss-business (Form 4797)
420 LT dep gain-business (Form 4797)
421 ST dep prop-business (Form 4797)
422 LT dep loss-res. rent (Form 4797)
423 LT dep gain-res. rent (Form 4797)
424 ST dep prop-res. rent (Form 4797)
We only support one copy of Form W-2 and due to this fact,
the following self items will be overwritten by similar
spouse items upon import into TaxCut:
Self W-2 Item Spouse W-2 Item that
overwrites self item
------------- --------------------
460 Salary 506 Salary Spouse
461 Federal Withholding 507 Federal Withholding Spouse
462 Soc Sec Tax Withholding 508 Soc Sec Tax Withholding
Spouse
463 Local Withholding 509 Local Withholding Spouse
464 State Withholding 511 State Withholding Spouse
480 Medicare Tax Withholding 510 Medicare Withholding Spouse
If both Tokens 481 (IRA Contribution Spouse) and 482 (IRA
Contribution, non-working spouse) are used, the latter will
overwrite the former upon import into TaxCut. This would not
likely occur, since a spouse who worked at some time during
the year would not qualify as a non-working spouse.

SPEED HINTS:
******************************************************************
The following tips may help improve the performance of your
system while running Managing Your Money for Windows:
A. Ensure you have configured and are using a Windows permanent
swap file, as opposed to a temporary one.
B. Ensure you are using SmartDrive or a similar disk caching
utility. The appropriate size of SmartDrive varies with your
computer, but the default sizes (see your Windows manual) are
a good starting point.
C. Ensure you have the maximum amount of XMS memory available
before starting Windows. The most effective upgrade for your
computer is to go from 4 megabytes of memory to 8 megabytes.
D. Remove any Wallpapers or Bitmaps from your Windows display.
While these items may improve the appearance of your system,
they utilize memory which is then unavailable for running
your programs.
