  2.                  *******  SPEECH! VERSION 2  *******

  4. Before using the program, please read through these notes carefully.  
  5.  
  6. 1. Each copy of Speech! Version 2 has a unique serial number. This serial
  7. number is given on the enclosed registration form, which should be filled in
  8. immediately on receipt and returned to Superior Software. 
  9.  
  10. Before using the program, and before attempting to copy the disc, you should
  11. first double-click on the !Speech! application (with the disc "write
  12. enable"). You will then be requested to enter your name, which will be
  13. stored within the program. Details of your serial number, user name, etc.
  14. can then be called up by clicking on Info on the icon bar menu. This is now
  15. your personalised copy of Speech! Version 2 which can be easily identified
  16. for your own protection and for registration purposes.
  17.  
  18. Once your name has been entered, you can then copy the program to a working
  19. disc (floppy or hard). You are advised always to work from this copy of the
  20. program and not from the original disc. The original disc should be stored
  21. in a safe place. Never save any files to the original program disc.

  23. 2. A new user-friendly Editor is included which allows you to add (or
  24. delete) "separate words". By "separate word" is meant a word which is
  25. preceded and followed by a space. For further details see the Edit_Help
  26. file. For details on how to make more fundamental changes to the dictionary,
  27. see the Dict_Help file.

  29. 3. The exception dictionary now includes over 4000 "words" giving much
  30. improved speech.

  32. 4. This application supports interactive help via the !Help application. 
  33.  
  34. 5. Accented characters are now accepted. (In the Dictionary file, accented
  35. characters are included in the "other" section.)  
  36.  
  37. 6. Four new phonemes have been added for use with foreign languages. These
  38. are "NQ, OO, UI and UR". See the !Help file in the !Speech! application for
  39. further details on these phonemes.

  41. 7.  In order to over-ride the speech module in either "Talking Pendown" or
  42. "Full Phases", first load in that program, then double-click on a Speech!
  43. module on your working disc, either the Speech! module provided in the
  44. !Speech! application directory (double-click on the !Speech! application
  45. with the Shift key held down in order to open that directory), or your own
  46. modified Speech! module.
