- Summary
- -------
-
- The following is a short summary of the most important things that you can
- do with Translator. Find out more by experimenting and reading 'Guide' (but
- I recognize some of you are too lazy, hence this summary !).
-
- - Images may be converted either automatically to the ideal mode and palette
- or to ANY mode and ANY palette of your choice
- - Simple or Floyd Steinberg error diffusion techniques ensure maximum image
- quality in all situations
- - Images may be (pre-)scaled using any scaling ratio, both X and Y seperately
- - Images may be converted to black and white images
- - Images may be colour-separated (using the RGB resolution settings)
- - Images may be saved, (post-)scaled down to any size, as sprite files and/or
- as Clear files. Clear files preserve all image information, and, among other
- things, ensure non-loss conversion to GIF and TIFF formats using !MakeGIF
- and !MakeTIFF.
- - Images can be examined easily by zoom options and a magnifier window
-
- A few special examples :
-
- - Creation of desktop icons from images : choose 'Output mode' = 'Current',
- select mode 12, ensure the desktop palette is the current palette, choose
- 'Output palette' = 'Current', set error spreading to 'on' (if you want
- maximum quality), set the appropiate scaling factors (for 34x17 pixel
- icons and an input image of, say 123x456, choose 34:123 for X and
- 17:456 for Y), load the image, save the image using 'Whole'.
-
- - Creation of GIF or TIFF files from any input image : choose output to a
- Clear file using 'Clear output' and dragging the file icon in the subwindow
- to a filer window, set any pre-scaling if you want to scale the image,
- ignore all other settings (they have no effect), load the image, drag the
- Clear file to !MakeGIF or !MakeTIFF to create the GIF or TIFF image.
-
- - Creation of sample images of (say) 100x100 pixels of your image library :
- set the 'x' and 'y' scaling factors both to '100' (i.e. the 'simple' form),
- then, one by one, load all your images and save them ('Whole' save). You can
- ensure that all saved sprites have the same mode by using 'Output mode' =
- 'Current'. Of course it is recommended to use error spreading.
