  5. Scanning Management Systems offers two versions of its passive data collection
  6. systems. One is for the DOS application developer and one is for the UNIX
  7. application developer. For the application developer, SCANNING provides its
  8. DOS/UNIX-based Passive Interface System. This system consists of the passive
  9. interface device, firmware, and ``C'' library routines which open, read, and
  10. close the interface device. This way, developers can easily integrate their
  11. application programs with SCANNING's passive interface device. Further, no
  12. matter which supported register is involved, these library routines are
  13. basically the same, relieving the applications developer from the burden of
  14. having to understand the technical aspects of each register system's interface.
  15. In most cases, the user's application program will be register non-specifc in
  16. terms of its operation.
