  2. SCO Partners Directory - May 1994 edition

  6. Congratulations, you have installed the SCO Partners Catalog on your machine.
  7. This catalog will occupy approximately 19 Mg of your disk space. 
  8.  
  9. There are two ways to browse the catalog:
  10.  
  11. 1. Run the binary called 'scodir' that resides in the bin directory
  12.    of this installation. You can add this to your PATH environment variable
  13.    to make it easier to start also. Another way to make this accessable to 
  14.    everyone on the system, is to copy the scodir executable script to a 
  15.    global bin directory such as /usr/bin.

  17. 2. If you are using a graphical desktop, then an icon exists in the bin 
  18.    directory of this installation. Open the bin directory from the desktop
  19.    and double click the SCO Directory icon. You can drag this icon onto your
  20.    desktop for easier startup.

  28. The online Directory includes more than 6,000 products from over 2,000
  29. vendors.  It is divided into seven catergories to help you narrow down 
  30. your searches:
  31.  
  32.         Hardware Peripheral Devices and Services
  33.         Enabling Technologies
  34.         General Business Applications
  35.         Accounting/Financial Applications
  36.         Industry-Specific Business Applications
  37.         Engineering/Scientific Applications
  38.         Services and Publications
  39.  
  40. You can browse through products by company name, product name, or keyword.
  41. A list of ALL possible keywords is also available from the top level menu.
  42. Within the keywords are telephone area codes and country codes, which allows
  43. you to search by region as well as by product type.

  45. Select a category from the menu by either arrowing to the item and pressing
  46. return or entering the first letter (or number) of the category.
  47.  
  48. Upon selecting any category, you can browse through all the entries
  49. in that category or search for particular entries based upon certain 
  50. criteria. Select the method of searching.

  54. If you select All from the menu, then all the entries in that category 
  55. will be loaded.

  57. Company
  58. ~~~~~~~
  59. After selecting Company, you will be asked to enter the name of the company 
  60. to search for. Enter the name of the company (or partial name), then press
  61. return. 
  62. If you don't know the full name of the company, then you can just enter the
  63. portion that you do know, the search mechanism will do the best possible
  64. search to find the company.

  66. Product

  68. After selecting Product, you will be asked to enter the name of the product 
  69. to search for. Enter the name of the product, then press return. 
  70. If you don't know the full name of the product, then you can just enter the
  71. portion that you do know, the search mechanism will do the best possible
  72. search to find that product.

  74. Keyword
  75. ~~~~~~~
  76. You can search the category based upon a keyword. After selecting Keyword, 
  77. you will be asked to enter the keyword (or keywords). You can also enter a 
  78. telephone area code or country code here to search for products by region.
  79. To look at all the keywords available in the directory, select Keywords from
  80. the top-level menu. This file is located in /usr/directory/bin/Keys. You can
  81. print it out for a hardcopy listing of all the keywords in the directory.

  83. Browsing the entries
  84. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  85. After the search is done, you will be shown a list of entries from the
  86. Directory. To read an entry, enter the number of the entry, and press return.
  87. You will be shown a screen full of information at a time, there will be prompts
  88. at the bottom of the screen to allow you to display the rest of the information.
  89. You can browse the next entry by pressing 'n'.
  90. A list of possible commands are shown at the bottom of the screen.

  92. Saving Entries (and printing them)

  94. To save an entry after reading it, press 's' followed by the name of the file.
  95. The file will then be saved in your home directory. If you wish to print it, 
  96. then print out the saved file as you would print any file.
  97. To save more than 1 entry in a file, select a range of articles followed by the
  98. name of the file. 
  99.     e.g. s 4-45 fname  - This will save articles 4 to 45 in a 
  100.                  file named fname.

  102. Exiting
  103. ~~~~~~~
  104. Once you have finished reading all the entries, type 'q' to quit the browser.
  105. To leave a category and go to the top level category, select Top.
  106.  
  107. To exit the Directory, select Logout.
