- This file explains a problem that I seem to be having with Netware 386 v3.10a.
- I have all the latest patches loaded. I can create a file called X.TXT (just
- an example, it happens with any file name), and then delete it with the DOS
- internal command DEL X.TXT, then go into Novell's SALVAGE menu utility, select
- the file and try to salvage it, and I always get a warning that a file by the
- same name already exists. I know that no other file has this name. I get
- prompted for a different file name to use for the salvaged file, and I enter
- a unique name. I then salvage it, and all works okay. I can then get of the
- SALVAGE program, and go to DOS, and rename the file with the DOS internal
- command REN UNIQUE.TXT X.TXT, and it works.
-
- Obviously, there are mysterious forces at work here. If the file name was
- not unique, then I wouldn't have been able to rename it back to it's
- supposedly non-unique name.
-
- It makes no difference what shell or Ethernet card I use.
-
- A captured trace showing everything called CAPTURE.TXT is included in the
- SALBUG.ZIP file that I have uploaded to NOVA Library 17 for your examination.
