  27. New Utilities
  28.  
  29. New utilities include utilities that are newly written. 
  30. For example, the installation utility for NetWare 386 is
  31. completely new, rather than just a revised version of the
  32. old Installation utility.  New utilities, listed
  33. alphabetically, include the following:

  56.              restrictions.

  58. DSPACE       Enables supervisors to view and set disk
  59.              space restrictions for users both at the
  60.              volume and directory levels.

  62. FILER          Handles volumes up to 32TB, files up to
  63.                4GB, 32-character names, case-sensitive
  64.                file and directory names, new trustee
  65.                rights, new file and directory attributes,
  66.                and the new file and directory Inherited
  67.                Rights Masks.
  68.  
  69. INSTALL      Enables network installers to create and
  70.              maintain NetWare partitions and volumes on
  71.              hard disks.  This utility is a NetWare
  72.              Loadable Module (NLM).
  73.  
  74. MONITOR      This utility will have most of the same
  75.              functions as the NetWare 286 v2.1x monitor
  76.              console command and v2.1x FCONSOLE utility. 
  77.              It is a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) and will 
  78.              have windows that display information about
  79.              utilization percentages and overall activity,
  80.              cache memory status, user activity, disk drives
  81.              and volumes on the server, LAN drivers, and
  82.              NLMs.
  83. NBACKUP      Replaces MACBACK, LARCHIVE, LRESTORE, NARCHIVE,
  84.              and NRESTORE utilities. Allows users to back
  85.              up data to local drives, optical drives, and 
  86.              other network drives. Both NBACKUP and UPGRADE
  87.              have been designed to support DOS and non-DOS
  88.              devices. For NetWare 386 v3.0, various DOS
  89.              devices and a Wangtek cartridge tape drive are
  90.              supported. NetWare 386 v3.1 provides Device
  91.              Independent Backup Interface (DIBI) and, therefore,
  92.              will support other third party device drivers.
  93.  
  94. PCONSOLE     PConsole allows clients to communicate with
  95.              the printer, including setting up the print
  96.              server, controlling network printing, and
  97.              viewing printer information.  User interface
  98.              is modified to include information on
  99.              printer conditions.  For example, the print
  100.              server notifies clients when their print
  101.              jobs are finished and notifies a list of
  102.              clients when a printer needs attention, such
  103.              as when a new form needs to be mounted or
  104.              when a printer is out of paper.
  105.  
  106. PSC          Print Server Command (PSC) is a command line
  107.              utility enabling clients to control printer
  108.              servers and network printers quickly.
  109.  
  110. RPRINTER     Remote Printer (RPRINTER) is a command line
  111.              utility enabling clients to connect or
  112.              disconnect a remote printer from a print
  113.              server.
  114.  
  115. UPGRADE      Upgrade allows an installer to upgrade to
  116.              NetWare 386 v3.0 from NetWare v2.1.
  117.  
  118. Modified Utilities

  120. The following utilities existed in previous versions of
  121. NetWare and have been modified for NetWare 386.  The
  122. utility functions and, in some cases, the user interface
  123. have been modified.

  176. BINDFIX      Supports the following three bindery files
  177.              instead of two:  NET$OBJ.SYS, NET$PROP.SYS,
  178.              and NET$VAL.SYS.  
  179.  
  180. BINDREST     Supports the three bindery files located in
  181.              SYS:SYSTEM. CHKVOL       Displays the following information:  server
  182.              and volume name, total volume space, total
  183.              bytes occupied by total number of files,
  184.              unused bytes on volume, and bytes available
  185.              to requesting user.  The total volume space
  186.              can approach 32TB.  However, the utility can
  187.              show only 4GB maximum.  For any space over
  188.              4GB, the utility simply returns 4GB.  It
  189.              also returns information about deleted
  190.              files.
  191.  
  192. CAPTURE      Modified for use with the PRINT SERVER NLM.
  193.  
  194. DISKSET      Allows you to check and change, if
  195.              necessary, disk coprocessor board and hard
  196.              disk settings.  This utility is a NetWare
  197.              Loadable Module (NLM).
  198.  
  199. FCONSOLE     Functions depend upon the calls put in the
  200.              NetWare 386 OS.
  201.  
  202. FLAG         Handles the new file attributes including
  203.              the Read Audit and Write Audit flags as well
  204.              as system, hidden, and purge attributes.
  205.  
  206. FLAGDIR      Supports purge upon deletion bit.
  207.  
  208. GRANT        Assigns trustees to files as well as
  209.              directories.  Can also recognize the new
  210.              trustee rights.
  211.  
  212. LISTDIR      Written to work in OS/2 and DOS.  Has new
  213.              trustee rights.
  214.  
  215. LOGIN        Supports encrypted passwords and new login
  216.              variables.
  217.  
  218. MAKEUSER     Supports new trustee rights.  Also allows
  219.              workgroup managers to create users.  May
  220.              allow supervisors to assign disk space
  221.              restrictions.
  222.  
  223. MAP          Supports encrypted passwords and the MAP
  224.              root utility.
  225.  
  226. NCOPY        Preserves a file's Transactional flag when
  227.              the utility copies the file.  Can also
  228.              recursively copy as XCOPY does.  Can handle
  229.              Macintosh files.  Can also preserve all file
  230.              attributes if you choose. NDIR         Displays Macintosh names.  Also supports
  231.              varying disk allocation block sizes, 4GB
  232.              files, trustee rights for directories and
  233.              files, and Inherited Rights Masks for files
  234.              and directories. No longer mentions indexed
  235.              files since all files are indexed when they
  236.              reach 64 FAT entries.
  237.  
  238. NVER         Returns the OS serial number as well as the
  239.              version number.
  240.  
  241. PAUDIT       Works in OS/2 and DOS.
  242.  
  243. PRINTCON     Supports the workgroup manager.
  244.  
  245. PRINTDEF     Modified for use with the PRINT SERVER NLM.
  246.  
  247. PSERVER      Provides printing services for NetWare 386
  248.              servers.  In many ways the differences from
  249.              previous NetWare releases will be
  250.              transparent to the user.  Primary additional
  251.              functionality is found in the ability to
  252.              completely control all facets of the print
  253.              server from any workstation.  These
  254.              functions may include bringing down the
  255.              print server, stopping the printer, pausing
  256.              the printer, rewinding the printer, querying
  257.              the printer status, and others.  The print
  258.              server will also have the added feature of
  259.              notifying users of job completion, notifying
  260.              operators of printer service needs, and
  261.              controlling remote printers attached to
  262.              remote workstations on the network. 
  263.  
  264. PURGE        Purges all files in the specified directory
  265.              that are in a salvageable state.  Accepts
  266.              paths and patterns for 386 servers.
  267.  
  268. REMOVE       Removes trustees of files as well as
  269.              directories.
  270.  
  271. RENDIR       Works in OS/2 and DOS.
  272.  
  273. REVOKE       Supports the new trustee rights for files
  274.              and directories.
  275.  
  276. RIGHTS       Supports the new trustee rights for files
  277.              and directories. SALVAGE      Allows a user to select a directory
  278.              (including DELETED.SAV), view all
  279.              salvageable files in that directory, and
  280.              either salvage or purge specified files.  
  281.  
  282. SECURITY     Supports the new trustee rights for files
  283.              and directories.
  284.  
  285. SEND         Allows server broadcasts and alerts to
  286.              supervisors and workgroup managers.  Works
  287.              in OS/2 and DOS.
  288.  
  289. SETPASS      Supports encrypted passwords.
  290.  
  291. SHCONFIG     User interface is simplified.
  292.  
  293. SHGEN        User interface is simplified.
  294.
