  8. PROBLEM  : Certain NetBIOS applications could hang
  9. the workstation under heavy I/O operations.  The following items
  10. were common to the customers we have worked with:
  11. 1.  Use of Novell NetWare.
  12. 2.  Use of Novell NetBIOS.
  13. 3.  Use of some type of application written for NetBIOS.
  14. 4.  Use of Soloman database server application.
  15.  
  16. SOLUTION  : The problem was stack size.  The database
  17. server application did not have a stack size large enough to
  18. handle things properly.  The vendor is going to adjust the stack
  19. size appropriately.
  20.  
  21. PROBLEM  : Customers have expressed a need for the
  22. ability to use more than the number of names currently allowed
  23. by NetBIOS.
  24.  
  25. SOLUTION  :  NetBIOS originally allowed only sixteen
  26. names to be defined in a local name table.  In rev C., the size
  27. of the local name table was changed to accomodate up to
  28. twenty-six names.  Now, customers are wanting the ability to have
  29. more names (in some cases they want to have 100 names).  Since the
  30. size of the name table is determined by the number of names
  31. allowed in the table, and thus the amount of memory to be used
  32. for this table, we decided that we would increase the number of names
  33. from sixteen to twenty-six.

  35. As an enhancement to some future release of NetBIOS, the size of the
  36. local name table will be user  configurable by the use of a parameter
  37. in the SHELL.CFG file (NETBIOS NAMES =  X, where X = the number of names
  38. desired).  The maximum and default values for this parameter have not been
  39. set.
