- I recently ran across the following message thread and found it very
- helpful in configuring Telix and my new Courier HST 9600 Modem. I pass
- it along in hopes that you might find it equally as enlightening.

- As a new HST user (picked it up yesterday) I need some help with
- regards to "tweaking" it for optimum use.
- The modem supports MNP 5 and has the addendum handbook, question(s)
- (1) am using the NRAM defaults with a exception of DTR low for use with
- Telix 3.0
-
- (2) the unit is attached to a 286 "turbo" unit.
-
- (3) Telix is set for 19,200 communication (between modem & terminal)
-
- (4) arc'd files avg about 1076 cps
-
- What I need is a complete init string to take full advantage of the HST,
- any and all help would be more than appreciated.
-
- Thanking You in Advance

- Being a new user myself I can understand. I use ATZ^M(Telix),ATZ{(Qmodem)
- and it works fine.

- My telephone exchange will not work with touch-tone so I use
- pulse dialing. I have disabled compression (&K0) as most of the

- with auto ARQ MNP select when calling most BBS's. If I know
- that the board does not have a modem equipt with MNP, I use
- prefix 2 to help seedup the initial modem contact sequence.
- Prefix 3 can be used if you only want to communicate with the
- other system when it has a modem with MNP (if not the modem will
- hangup).
-
- I have been using my HST for 6 months with the above settings
- and have had no problems.

- Thanks for your reply, will check my setup with yours.
- Colin Sampaleanu says " CTS/RTS ON, DSR/DTR OFF " for use with Telix 3.0
- After 48hrs, geez those 2400 baud up/downloads seem S-L-O-W, so far so
- good, I'm happy.

- Actually "we" need a longer init string than that, what I meant was for
- the complete init (with optimum settings that can be stored to NRAM).
- I think I'm pretty close right now (that Telix init simply does a simple
- init, perhaps I should of said "configuration string"), anyways one part
- of the manual is confusing (this is being echoed so pls everyone jump
- in).
- For instance to turn off MNP when calling a non-MNP system the "manual"
- mentions &M0, and later on (as per Hayes compatible modems) the same
- "manual" again tells the reader that this turns off the SPEAKER.
-
- QUESTION: how do I disable MNP checking??

-
- Marv,
- There is a file( a script) called HST18.RC. It will set up an HST with
- Qmodem or PCBoard and works like a charm. &M4 command will set up the
- modem to connect in normal mode if an ARQ connection cannot be made.
- That way you have the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

- If you used qmodem oyu could then use the HST18 script which sets up
- all nram parameters for you. If you're getting 1076cps, that is good
- already. I would definitely disable MNP5 (AT&K0) since it slows down
- ARC transfers.

- Hi Marv,
- Glad to hear it. 1179 is not too shabby. Question. What protocol and
- what equipment are you using. I ask because I am having a bit of
- trouble with my uploads. Getting ZRPOS's in Zmodem along with FLOW
- messages slowing down my transfers up. Down is no problem. Getting
- about 1100 with Zmodem.

- I believe you are confusing the ordinary commands with the
- exrended ones, those that start with a "&" symbol. Turning off the
- speaker is M0, and turning off MNP IS &M0.
