  8. TITLE      POSTSCRIPT OPTIONS FOR THE IBM LASERPRINTER AND IBM LASERPRINTER E
  9. ABSTRACT   The PostScript (1) Options provide PostScript processing capability
  10.            for the IBM LaserPrinter and the IBM LaserPrinter E (refer to Product
  11.  
  12.            Announcement 190-049).  They consist of the PostScript Option which
  13.            has 17 resident outline fonts; and the PostScript Option (Premium
  14.            Font Package) which has 17 resident, and 22 outline fonts (located on
  15.  
  16.            the Outline Font Card).  The Outline Font Card is available
  17.            separately.
  18.                   Screen fonts in the Microsoft Windows (2) and the Adobe (1)
  19.            formats are provided, and allow the document to be displayed as it
  20.            will be printed.  An optional 3.5Mb Memory Card for the IBM
  21.            LaserPrinter will be available on March 23, 1990.  Refer to Product
  22.            Announcement 189-153, dated October 10, 1989.

  45.                   Adding one of the PostScript Options extends the IBM
  46.            LaserPrinter's ability to process more complex applications, such as
  47.            desktop publishing.  For environments where text processing is a
  48.            primary application and PostScript processing a secondary
  49.            requirement, this increased capability provides a convenient,
  50.            economical solution.

  52.                   By providing additional capability via PostScript, PostScript
  53.            Options allow the user to produce a wider range of printed material,
  54.            increase the output control, and decrease time and dependence on
  55.            others.

  76.                   POSTSCRIPT OPTIONS
  77.                   In addition to adding PostScript processing capability for the

  79.            IBM LaserPrinter, each PostScript option provides screen fonts which
  80.            allow a document to be displayed as it will be printed.
  81.                   The choice of selecting PostScript mode should be made only
  82.            from the IBM LaserPrinter's operator panel (unlike the other IBM
  83.            LaserPrinter-supported data stream modes which may be switched,
  84.            dynamically, via programming commands).
  85.                   The PostScript Option and the PostScript Option Premium Font

  233.            SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY
  234.            PostScript Options for the IBM LaserPrinter have been tested for
  235.            programming compatibility by IBM for IBM licensed programs, or by the
  236.  
  237.            software publishers for non-IBM programs.  These tests form the basis
  238.  
  239.            for the compatibility results indicated, and were performed using the
  240.  
  241.            currently available version of the software package at the time of
  242.            testing, or the specific version indicated.  Compatibility may not be
  243.

  245.            the same for all versions.
  246.                   Each of the application software products listed was tested on

  248.            one or more members of the IBM Personal Computer family.  All
  249.            applications of the products were not tested with every IBM Personal

  298.            The following statements indicate PostScript Options for the IBM
  299.            LaserPrinter compatibility with a specific software application
  300.            program that is using the specific printer drivers provided by the
  301.            software publisher.  They do not imply any software application
  302.            limitation.
  303.            COMPATIBLE:  All printer-related commands issued by the software
  304.            application will be performed correctly by the PostScript Options for
  305.  
  306.            the IBM LaserPrinter.  Compatibility does not imply, necessarily,
  307.            that all printer features and functions are supported by the specific
  308.  
  309.            application.
  310.            LIMITED COMPATIBILITY:  Some printer-related commands issued by the
  311.            software application will not be performed correctly by the
  312.            PostScript Options for the IBM LaserPrinter. These differences are
  313.            not judged by the software publisher to be severe enough to hinder
  314.            use of the software application with the printer.  Refer to
  315.            Limitations.

  440.            to make the options operational without special tools or special
  441.            operator skills.  Technical and service publications are available.
