  8.             SEARCH AND DESTROY -- THE PROGRAM

  10. Most of us have a hard drive, some of us even have a hard drive 
  11. larger than 40 megs, but all of us have the annoying problem of 
  12. getting rid of space consuming files that just sit there. The 
  13. files with the extension of BAK, the files we messed up and 
  14. renamed the extension of BAD, and the old DOC files hanging 
  15. around from programs deleted long ago. Being a resource monger I 
  16. hate giving my precious space to such unuseful programs, but the 
  17. time involved in "Searching" them out and then "Destroying" them 
  18. has been prohibitive. Sure, there are programs that kill BAK 
  19. files, but what about my BAD and DOC files? Read on.....

  21. DESCRIPTION:    SND120.COM is a self-extracting LHARC file.
  22.                 (Someone finally got smart and saved some 
  23.                 space!) It is approximately 30K, and is 
  24.                 lightning fast. Registration is a meager $5.00 
  25.                 which is worth the hour of time it will save 
  26.                 you. Written by Steve Getman of Coyote Software
  27.                 the program is bug free, and easy to use.

  29. USE:    Starting the program is the wrong thing to do! READ THE 
  30.         DOCUMENTATION first! I cannot stress the power of this 
  31.         software, especially if a novice user is attempting to 
  32.         use it. Start by simply typing SND. This presents you 
  33.         with a screen that is meant for the "ShareWare" version 
  34.         only, and if you send in money you will be able to get a 
  35.         version without the entrance screen. This is very 
  36.         disturbing to people who want to evaluate this software 
  37.         in BATCH mode. You can use SND from a command line, but 
  38.         no menu format is provided, which means even more danger 
  39.         for a user who did not read the documentation, or a 
  40.         novice user. After starting SND you may encounter an 
  41.         error, I think. Problem is the screen writes over the 
  42.         error or message so fast you cannot adequately make it 
  43.         out. Entering correct parameters allows the software to 
  44.         start. This is where SND really shines! It quickly ZIPS 
  45.         through your directories "Searching" and then 
  46.         "Destroying" any files that you have specified. When the 
  47.         program starts there is no way to interrupt it; save 
  48.         hitting "N" to all files, or rebooting. This is a design 
  49.         flaw. ESCAPE should always allow a user to ESCAPE out of 
  50.         a program. When the program is finished "Searching" and 
  51.         "Destroying" it totals the amount of files "Destroyed".

  54. Summary:SND is an infant program with a very bright future.
  55.         For $5.00 you cannot lose! It lets you easily manage an
  56.         untameable part of your hard drive: unneeded files! I
  57.         would suggest a better user interface (menus) and an
  58.         interrupt feature. The documentation though, was very
  59.         complete and well done.

  68. better had there been an interrupt feature, and a menu format.
