à 7.1ïFinding the Perimeter of Geometric Figures
äïPlease find the Perimeter of the following geometric
êêfigures.
âëFind the perimeter of the given Rectangle.
êêêë Perimeter = 6 + 2 + 6 + 2 = 16in.
@fig101.bmp,25,118
éSêè The Perimeter of a geometric figure is the total
êêè distance around the figure. In order to find the
êêè Perimeter of the given rectangle, you should add up
êêè the lengths of all the sides. 6in. + 2in. + 6in. + 2in.
êêè = 16in.ïThus, the Perimeter of this Rectangle is 16in.
The Perimeter of any three sided figure (triangle) is the sum of the
lengths of the three sides.ïThe Perimeter of any four sided figure
êêè (quadrilateral) is the sum of the lengths of the four
êêè sides.ïThe distance around a circle is called the
êêè Circumference rather than the Perimeter and is found
êêè by multiplying (π ≈ 3.14) times the diameter or by
êêè multiplying "2" times (π ≈ 3.14) times the radius.

1èFind the Perimeter of the given Square (a Square has equal
êêêsides and 90 degree angles).
êêêêè A)ï8 cm.êêB) 16 cm.
êêêêè C)ï12 cm.êë D) å of ç
@fig104.bmp,25,229
ü
êêè4 cm. + 4 cm. + 4 cm. + 4 cm. = 16 cm.
Ç B
2êFind the Perimeter of the given Quadrilateral (a
êêêQuadrilateral is any four sided plane figure).
êêêêè A)ï22 ft.êëB) 24 ft.
êêêêè C)ï23 ft.êëD) å of ç
@fig105.bmp,25,229
ü
êêï10 ft. + 3 ft. + 4 ft. + 6 ft. = 23 ft.
Ç C
3èFind the Perimeter of the given Parallelogram (a parallel-
êêêogram has opposite sides parallel and equal).
êêêêè A)ï30 yds.êëB) 26 yds.
êêêêè C)ï24 yds.êëD) å of ç
@fig106.bmp,25,229
ü
êë 10 yds. + 5 yds. + 10 yds. + 5 yds. = 30 yds.
Ç A
4èFind the Perimeter of the given Rhombus (a rhombus is a
êêêparallelogram with all sides equal).
êêêêè A)ï25 m.êêB) 30 m.
êêêêè C)ï20 m.êêD) å of ç
@fig107.bmp,25,229
ü
êêë5 m. + 5 m. + 5 m. + 5 m. = 20 m.
Ç C
5èFind the Perimeter of the given Rectangle (a rectangle is
êêêa parallelogram with four right angles).
êêêêè A)ï54 mi.êë B) 36 mi.
êêêêè C)ï44 mi.êë D) å of ç
@fig108.bmp,25,229
ü
êê 14 mi. + 8 mi. + 14 mi. + 8 mi. =ï44 mi.

6êïFind the Perimeter of the given Triangle.
êêêêè A)ï33 m.êêB) 26 m.
êêêêè C)ï28 m.êêD) å of ç
@fig109.bmp,25,229
ü
êêê12 m. + 16 m. + 5 m. = 33 m.
Ç A
7èFind the Perimeter of the given Right Triangle (a right
êêêtriangle has one 90 degree angle).
êêêêè A)ï26 ft.êë B) 24 ft.
êêêêè C)ï28 ft.êë D) å of ç
@fig110.bmp,25,229
ü
êêë10 ft. + 8 ft. + 6 ft. = 24 ft.
Ç B
8ïFind the Circumference of a Circle with Diameter of 12 inches.
êêêêè A)ï40 in.êë B) 37.68 in.
êêêêè C)ï38 in.êë D) å of ç
@fig111.bmp,25,229
ü
êêë Circumference = π times Diameter.
êêêï≈ (3.14)(12) = 37.68 inches.
Ç B
9ë Find the Circumference of a Circle with Radius 3 cm.
êêêêè A)ï18.84 cm.êèB) 18 cm.
êêêêè C)ï21 cm.êë D) å of ç
@fig112.bmp,25,229
ü
êêê Circumference = 2 ∙ π ∙ Radius.
êêêê≈ 2 ∙ (3.14) ∙ 3
êêêêï= 18.84 cm.
Ç A
10êFind the Perimeter of the following figure.
êêêêè A)ï40 in.êë B) 39.42 in.
êêêêè C)ï38 in.êë D) å of ç
@fig113.bmp,25,229
üèFirst, find "half" the Circumference of a circle with a Diameter
êïof 6 in.ïCircumferenceëπ∙Diameterë(3.14)(6)
#êêë─────────────ï=ï──────────ï=ï───────── = 9.42
êêêè2êêï2êê2
Then, find the rectangular distances.ï12 in. + 6 in. + 12 in. = 30 in.
ê The sum is the Perimeter.ï30 in. + 9.42 in. = 39.42 in.
