  4. This file contains installation instructions and license information.
  5.  
  6. NOTE: Version 1.4 is the final release of Envelop. The Envelop project
  7. was funded by CIMLINC, Inc., a leading supplier of solutions to the
  8. discrete parts manufacturing industry. As part of CIMLINC's ongoing
  9. efforts to focus on its core solutions business, we have decided to
  10. discontinue development of the Envelop tools. The members of the Envelop
  11. project team are grateful for the enthusiasm shown by the Internet
  12. community toward our project. Anyone interested in obtaining exclusive
  13. rights to the Envelop source code may contact us at:

  19. PLEASE NOTE:  Envelop requires Windows '95 or NT 3.51 to install
  20. and run properly. If you do not have one of these operating systems,
  21. you must upgrade your system before installing Envelop.

  23. The following text files are included on the first installation disk,
  24. and also are installed to the Envelop Program directory:
  25.  - NOTES.TXT: release notes, i.e. what's new since previous release
  26.  - STORY.TXT: the Envelop story, who we are, and why we are
  27.  - LICENSE.TXT: license agreement for Envelop software
  28.  
  29. Please read these files carefully before running Envelop.

  31. Setup instructions from electronic download:
  32.     1. Close all running applications.
  33.     2. In a temporary directory, decompress the self-extracting archive by running it.
  34.     Use the Run command from either the Start button menu (Windows 95) or the
  35.     File Menu of the Program Manager (Windows NT) to invoke the self-extracting
  36.     archive (e.g. "FENVELOP.EXE"). This requires approximately 8M of disk space.
  37.     3. Invoke the Envelop setup program (SETUP.EXE) from the temp directory
  38.     where you unpacked the archive. Again, use the Start button or the Program
  39.     Manager's File menu to select Run, then enter the path or browse to select the
  40.     Envelop setup program.
  41.     4. Follow the on-screen instructions as given by the setup program. A complete
  42.     installation requires approximately 20M of free disk space on the target drive.
  43.     5. When the installation is complete, you may delete all the files from the temp
  44.     directory where you placed the contents of the archive. You may wish to keep a
  45.     backup copy of the archive itself in case you want to re-install Envelop.

  47. Setup instructions from floppy diskettes:
  48.     1. Close all running applications.
  49.     2. Insert disk 1 in your 3.5" floppy drive (A:).
  50.     3. Choose the File Menu from the Windows Program Manager and select Run.
  51.     4. Type A:\setup and press ENTER.
  52.     5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  54. Getting started:
  55.  
  56.     The "Introduction" and "Tutorials" sections of the Envelop online help file
  57.     enable you to start using Envelop immediately. To display the help file,
  58.     start Envelop and choose Help|Envelop Help Topics from the main
  59.     menu bar, or just double-click on the file ENVELOP.HLP (installed in the
  60.     directory HELP, under the directory containing your Envelop installation).

  62.     Included in the "Introduction" section are a tour of the main tools for
  63.     working with objects in the Envelop system, and information about the
  64.     samples included with the Envelop distribution.
  65.  
  66.     The "Tutorials" section contains step-by-step exercises that introduce
  67.     you to the processes of working with objects as components and
  68.     applications, including how to analyze the techniques used in the samples.

  70. NOTES
  71.     1.  It is important that the C:\ENVELOP\PROGRAM directory appears
  72.     in your PATH environment variable in order for Envelop to run properly.
  73.     From version 1.0.1 on, the setup program for Envelop tries to ensure that this
  74.     is the case, but there are some circumstances under which the setup
  75.     program cannot force the program directory into your path. If this happens
  76.     you should manually alter your PATH so the Envelop program directory
  77.     is part of your search path.

  80.     The license agreement is found on disk 1 in the file LICENSE.TXT. By
  81.     running this version of Envelop, you agree to the terms and conditions therein.
