  17. I. COMMENT FROM EA
  18.  
  19. Thank you for obtaining the Jane's Combat Simulations - 
  20. 688i "realism" Patch (English).  This patch will update the
  21. original 688i executable (5/30/97) and the new executable from
  22. the E_688i_1 patch (7/17/97) that was posted on July 18, 1997.

  24. Please refer to What's Different (section III.) below.

  28. II. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  29.  
  30. To install the patch, do the following:
  31.  
  32.         1. Copy the file E_688I.exe to your 688i directory.
  33.         2. Double-click on the file named E_688i.exe.  This is a
  34.        self-extracting file that should create the following:
  35.                PATCH.RTP
  36.                PATCH.EXE
  37.                PATCH.TXT
  38.                PATCH.BAT
  39.         3. Double-click on the file named PATCH.BAT. A DOS window
  40.            will open and you will be given some information about
  41.            the patch.
  42.            After reading the information, press any key to 
  43.            continue. The patch will now begin installing.  
  44.         4. When the patch has finished installing, you should see
  45.            the message:
  46.            -- "Total File Patches Processed ....( 1)"
  47.         5. The patch is now installed, run 688i as normal.

  49. Note 1: This patch will overwrite the 688i_hk.EXE file.  If you
  50.     decide that you don't like the changes in this patch, you
  51.     will need to re-install 688i from your CD to get the old 
  52.     688i_hk.EXE file.

  54. Note 2: You may delete the 4 patch files and the E_688i.EXE file
  55.     once the executable has been updated if you want - these
  56.     files are not needed to run 688i.

  60. III. WHAT'S DIFFERENT?
  61.  
  62. E_688i patch:
  63. - "fast-fire" torpedo anomoly introduced by patch E_688i_1
  64.  
  65. E_688i_1 patch:
  66. - turn rate of sub modified
  67. - dive rate of sub modified
  68. - torpedo tube unload time modified (10 minutes)
  69. - torpedo tube load time modified (8 minutes)
  70. - torpedo cone color fixed - blue for search, red when enabled
  71.  
  72. NOTE:    We are releasing this patch without conducting any
  73.     extensive testing.  We have done some minor testing and
  74.     it appears that all is working normally in the program.
  75.     As such, we have decided to make it available to you, but
  76.     please understand, results may vary.  Thank-you
