NBA Live 98 Toolkit
-------------------
Version 0.4, 12/09/97
Copyright (c) 1997 by TASsoft, All Rights Reserved
Written by Tim Tschirner (tim@TASsoft.com) & Brien Smith (brien@TASsoft.com)
Overview
--------
The NBA Live 98 Toolkit lets you view and edit almost any NBA Live 98
data files. You can change player, team and user information plus move
players to All-Star Slots, import Stats both for Players and Teams and
from other PLAYERS.DBF Files and much more.
The complete NBA Live 98 Toolkit consists of the following files:
README.TXT - The file you're just reading
NBA98TK.MDE - NBA Live 98 Toolkit in Microsoft Access 97 MDE Format
NBA98TK.ICO - An icon for the NBA Live 98 Toolkit
This program is Freeware, so spread it ;-) But, please, leave the
archives contact. Also, none of the included files may be changed
in any way. You can always find the latest version at The NBA Live
Series Center, which has the following URL:
http://www.tassoft.com/nbalive/
Installation
------------
The NBA Live 98 Toolkit will be automatically installed into the
C:\NBA98TK Folder when you click the Setup Button.
If you like, you can create a shortcut to nba98tk.mde on your Desktop
or in the Start Menu. Please consult your Windows 95 manual for more
information on that.
Usage
-----
First of all, we'd like to say the following:
!! Use at your own risk. Use of this product may corrupt !!
!! your data files, so please make backups of ALL files. !!
The NBA Live 98 Toolkit is a Microsoft Access Application which means
that it needs Microsoft Access 97 (either full or Run-Time version) to
operate. It does NOT work with any other Version of Microsoft Access.
The dBASE ISAM Drivers need to be installed with Microsoft Access 97 as
well, so make sure to select them when you install Access for the first
time or re-run Access Setup and then install the dBASE ISAM Drivers.
In general, it is best to do a FULL installation of Microsoft Access 97.
Also, you should let Access compact the file nba98tk.mde from time
to time. Please see the Microsoft Access 97 Online Help for more
informatin on compacting Databases.
Basic Operation
---------------
To run the NBA Live 98 Toolkit, start Microsoft Access 97, click
on 'Open', select 'Microsoft Access MDE Files' as the File Type and
open C:\NBA98TK\NBA98TK.MDE.
If you run the toolkit for the first time, the NBA Live 98 Data
Files need to be relinked. You will be prompted to select the
location for each file. Please see below for more information
on where to select them from.
All other operations should be pretty self-explanatory, especially
if you have used other NBA Live Editors from us in the past and
are familiar with Microsoft Access. You can use a lot of Access'
standard menus and operations which make sorting and filtering a lot
easier. For example, if you want to order the Players by their
Field Goal Rating, click in the FG Rating Field and then click one
of the 'Sort' Buttons in the Toolbar - that's it!
Note that all grey fields are auto-calculated fields and can't be
edited. On the Ratings page, the grey fields for Players' Ratings
are the Traditional Values (i.e. 50-99), while the original Ratings
range from 0-100. Also note that changing the Overall Rating (either
Player and Team) and the Team Ratings (both normal and raw) have
no effect, the game will automatically re-calculate them.
Also, please note that you must reload the Files in the game after you
made changes with the Toolkit.
MegaModifier
------------
The MegaModifier lets you change Ratings quick and powerful. You
can modify Ratings for one Team or all Teams.
With it you can for example raise all Defensive Ratings, lower all
Field Goal Ratings, age all Players one year or set the Fatigue Rating
to one Value.
NOTE: This is a very powerful feature, please use it with caution and
backup your files before you start modifying.
Importing
---------
Importing Stats
---------------
To import Stats, click on 'Importing' and then select either 'Import
Player Stats' or 'Import Team Stats'. In the following Dialog choose the
text file which holds the stats you want to import, then click on 'OK'.
The Stats will be imported, and if errors occur (i.e. Players not
in the current PLAYERS.DBF File but in the Stats File), the text file
IMPORT.ERR will be created in the Root directory of your C: Drive and
can be checked for the exact errors.
During the import process the Free-Throw Ratings of the Players
will automatically be adjusted if more than 10 free throws were
attempted (Rating = Free-Throw Percentage).
Note: The stat files must have the RAW DATA format as found on Doug
Steele's excellent NBA Stats Page (http://shell.rmi.net/~doug/),
both for Teams and for Players.
Importing from PLAYERS.DBF
--------------------------
To import from another PLAYERS.DBF File into the currently open
PLAYERS.DBF File, click on 'Importing' and then choose 'Import from
other PLAYERS.DBF File'. In the following Dialog choose the PLAYERS.DBF
you want to import from and then click on OK. In the next Dialog you can
choose what you want to import from the file.
This is great for importing updated data and ratings from a Roster Patch
into your current Season file. To do that, select the PLAYERS.DBF File
from your season, then click on 'Importing', then on 'Import from other
PLAYERS.DBF File'. In the following File Open Dialog select a PLAYERS.DBF
File from a Patch, then select Player Data, Player Ratings and Lineups
and click on Import.
Making a Player an All-Star
---------------------------
To make a Player an All-Star, select 'Edit Players' and go to the
Player that you want to move to an All-Star Slot. Then select the
All-Star Team and Slot you want to copy him to and click on the
'Make All-Star' Button.
After you have done so, you must go into the game and delete the
players that originally were in the All-Star Slots you copied to.
To do so, start NBA Live 98, load the Files you modified, then
click on 'ROSTERS', select 'CREATE PLAYER' and click on 'DELETE' in the
upper right corner. You will see a list of players that can be deleted;
please choose the ones that have been in the All-Star Slots (they will
have either (ASE) or (ASW) behind their names).
