This document contains last-minute information about Print Artist 12.0 and other information about the program not found in the Help Files. This README file includes information that pertains to general problems and questions you may have concerning this software or your computer. Should you experience any problems with Print Artist 12.0, please refer to this file for additional help on answering questions and solving technical difficulties.
As with all applications, you may experience difficulties using Print Artist 12.0 with some hardware configurations. In almost all cases these problems can be resolved by obtaining the most recent drivers for your hardware or by changing your screen resolution or other settings. Hardware that we have experienced difficulty with while testing includes: Hewlett Packard 692c printer; Maxi Gamer Phoenix video card; ATI Rage Pro video card; Diamond Multimedia Fire GL 1000 Pro video card; Xerox DocuPrint C11 printer.
If you paste an object from a large Print Artist 12.0 project (e.g. a banner) into a smaller one (e.g. a business card), you may not be able to immediately see it. The object will maintain its absolute position on the workspace, and so may appear outside the boundaries of the smaller project. You can locate the object by zooming out until it is visible.
Since the color palette in Print Artist 12.0 is slightly different than that of earlier Print Artist versions (before version 8.0), you may not be able to locate colors from those versions. You can obtain these colors using the Customize Colors functions in Print Artist 12.0 by setting the Red/Green/Blue value manually. Dropped colors and their RGB values are:

Images inserted directly into Print Artist 12.0 from a TWAIN device (such as a scanner or digital camera) may be rotated 90 degrees from their proper orientation. Simply rotate them back to their upright positions using the rotation grab handle.
Some fonts are installed by Print Artist 12.0 automatically, and are required for the pre-made layouts to look correct. These required fonts are: American Classic Bold, AnzeigenGroT, Ashley Crawford, BlippoBlaD, BlizzardD, Carmine Tango, CoronetI, EwieD, Greeting Monotone, HogarthScrD, IceAgeD, Isabella, IsonormD, LatinWidD, MicrogrammaDMedExt, MotterFemD, NevisonCasD, NicolasCocTReg, PaletteD, Poster Bodoni, Quill, RomanScrD, SchneidlerMedSCTReg, SerpentineDBol, Symphony, TimelessTLig, URWAntiquaTExtBol, URWEgyptienneTMed, URWLatinoT, VAGRundschriftD, and VladimirScrD.
If you experience problems with fonts disappearing or behaving differently after you install Print Artist 12.0, you may have exceeded the number of fonts your system can accommodate. The font limit varies from system to system, but if you have more than 400 fonts or your Windows\Fonts folder exceeds 18MB you may experience this problem. Please refer to your Windows documentation for instructions on removing unused fonts.
Because screen resolution on your monitor is less than most printers' resolution, you may not be able to see small objects at large zoom levels. These objects will be visible at lower zoom levels or when the project is printed.
If you install Print Artist 12.0 into the folder of another Sierra application, you will experience problems when you uninstall it. We recommend installing to the default location.
If you select "Move All Objects to Current Layer" from the Layer Properties dialog, all layers except the currently selected one will be removed from your project.
Text inserted in the Double Arc format and then Grouped may lose effects applied to it if it is later Ungrouped. Grouped objects that have been "flipped" across any axis can not be Ungrouped.
If you have installed Print Artist 12.0 and are unable to see any of the content, it may mean that the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) were not correctly installed by Setup. Close all applications and run "mdac_typ.exe" from the \PA12\Mdac directory of your Print Artist 12.0 CD #1 to resolve this problem. Additionally, other programs installed after Print Artist 12.0 that use older versions of these components may cause data acccess difficulties. In that case, reinstall MDAC as described.
Envelope dimensions in Print Artist 12.0 may be set opposite of how your printer sets them. Print Artist lists envelope dimensions as Width by Height, while some printers set handle envelopes as Height by Width. If you are experiencing difficulty printing envelopes try reversing the dimensions. You should also make sure that you have updated your printer settings to print envelopes. You can do this by going to Start > Settings > Printers and right-clicking on your printer. Refer to the documentation that came with your printer for more details.
You may experience program slow downs or freezes if you are running Print Artist 12.0 in conjunction with Norton anti-viral software. To correct this, either disable Norton (right-click on the icon on the task list and choose Disable) or add Print Artist 12.0 to the Norton exclusion list (refer to the documentation that came with your Norton utility).
When importing graphics in .PNG format into Print Artist 12.0, you can only insert graphics of a single color depth into the same project.
Print Artist 12.0 can read projects created using Print Artist 8.0. Projects from earlier versions of Print Artist need to be converted into Print Artist 8.0 format before Print Artist 12.0 can access them. If you have projects from an older version of Print Artist and do not own Print Artist 8.0, Sierra will provide a copy for you. Call 877-446-0184 and tell the Customer Service Representative that you need a copy of the Print Artist 8.1 Valueline, sku number 71133.
A single body text object or chain of body text objects linked together has a limit of approximately 65,000 characters, or 650 lines of text. (More special characters and variations in formatting will decrease this limit.) When you paste or type text beyond this limit, Print Artist notifies you with a beep. A project can contain text beyond this limit, but you must break the text into separate body text objects or separate chains of linked body text objects.
III. CUSTOM INSTALLATION OPTIONS

The Custom installation option offered during the Print Artist 12.0 installation allows you to select which graphics you would like to install to your hard drive, among other options. The amount of space required to install the additional graphics CDs varies from computer to computer, depending on your memory configuration, fragmentation of your hard drive, operating system and other factors. Due the number of variables and limitations with the InstallShield tool, it is difficult to predict exactly how much space the CDs will require on a particular system. As a result, the space requirement that displays during installation may not be accurate.
If the Print Artist 12.0 installation finds that there is not enough room on the selected hard drive while installation is proceeding, it will stop installing the CD currently being installed and uninstall any portion of that CD that has already been installed. The install will continue, allowing you to use Print Artist 12.0. Graphics CDs that were unable to be installed can still be accessed in the program off the CDs. You will be notified if this condition occurs.
