This file explains how to use DAFORT for external alarms in Telemate.
1. You should put the TMALARM.BAT file in the Telemate directory.
It is the batch file that Telemate runs when it activates an
external alarm. In this batch file, you can run anything you
like, say a music player, a picture viewer, or a digital sound
player, anything.
Telemate comes with a music player called ROLALARM.EXE. The
default TMALARM.BAT is set up to use this music player.
However, this .BAT file can be replaced with one that uses
DAFORT. An example TMALARM.BAT that uses DAFORT has been
supplied.
Copy the TMALARM.BAT file to the directory that contains
Telemate along with the ALARM_0.RC, ALARM_1.RC, ALARM_2.RC,
ALARM_3.RC, ALARM_4.RC files and the BING.DAS, BUGSBUNY.VOC,
KLAXON1.WAV, and ILLBEBAK.SND sound files. Note that by using
full pathnames in the .RC files, the sound files can be placed
anywhere on your hard disk.
2. You can place DAFORT.EXE in the Telemate directory. However,
DAFORT can actually be in any directory in your PATH
environment variable.
3. Run Telemate and turn ON the 'External Alarm' option under the
Options/General dialog.
Now you have installed DAFORT.EXE as your external alarm. DAFORT
requires a lot of memory (200K). You may need to turn ON the
"Swap Telemate to XMS/EMS" or "Swap Telemate to Disk" options
under the Options/General Dialog (indicated by the error message
"Alloc of 65536 bytes failed. Error code 8"). If you continue to
have problems then turn ON the "Maximum DOS Shell" option under
the Options/General Dialog.
Modify the .RC files to include any sound files that you may have.
The more files you have in each .RC file, the more interesting
things will be. If you don't have many sound files, see our
catalog (CATALOG.DOC). Remember you get one FREE disk from our
Digital Audio Series Collection when you register DAFORT.
