  155.                  A tutorial takes the user through an introduction to OS/2 Warp
  156.           Version 3 and how to work with objects.  It shows how to move, copy,
  157.           create shadows and how to work with printers.  It also explains how
  158.           to set up OS/2, DOS and Windows applications.  Each subject covered
  159.           in the tutorial has three levels of tips, one for the DOS user, one
  160.           for Windows users and one for the expert OS/2 user.  The tutorial is
  161.           in graphic design and has a very useful index and graphical help
  162.           facility.

  170.           OS/2 Warp Version 3 simplifies installation for most users.  A new
  171.           Easy-Install will install OS/2 Warp Version 3 in a configuration
  172.           suitable for most personal computers without asking the user
  173.           additional questions.  An advanced install option helps experienced
  174.           users customize their systems.  When installed over an existing DOS

  181.           system, Dual Boot is automatically installed without requiring the
  182.           user to modify the DOS config.sys file and re-boot.  The appropriate
  183.           command lines are added automatically without a caution message.
  184.           Installation time is reduced significantly for diskette and CD-ROM
  185.           media.  The number of OS/2 diskettes are reduced through
  186.           state-of-the-art compression and extended Density Format technology
  187.           (XDF).  XDF allows 1.86MB to be put on media that previously
  188.           contained 1.44MB to reduce the number of diskettes to be loaded.
  189.                  OS/2 Warp Version 3 provides remote, unattended installation,
  190.           configuration, and distribution (CID).  Multimedia is CID enabled but
  191.           requires an "MINSTALL" to activate it.  The accompanying BonusPak for
  192.           OS/2 is not CID enabled.
  193.                  Multimedia is integrated into OS/2 Warp Version 3 and installs
  194.           automatically when the appropriate system hardware is detected,
  195.           eliminating a separate installation process.  The enhanced hardware
  196.           detection also simplifies installation of many system device drivers
  197.           for displays, hard disks, SCSI devices, CD-ROM drives and PCMCIA
  198.           cards.  Multiple printers can be installed during the initial
  199.           installation significantly simplifying the process for those
  200.           customers with multiple printers.  DOS application program migration
  201.           into OS/2 is expanded by the addition of more than 300 popular DOS
  202.           applications to the migration data base.  This allows OS/2 V3 to
  203.           automatically configure their DOS settings to be tuned for optimum
  204.           performance running simultaneously and seamlessly with other
  205.           applications.  The numeric error codes previously displayed when
  206.           OS/2 install encountered a problem are replaced in most cases by an
  207.           informational message to direct the user to the cause of the problem.
  208.           PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS
  209.           OS/2 Version 3 is extensively reprogrammed and tuned to operate more
  210.           responsively in any system memory configuration but particularly on
  211.           4MB entry level personal computers.  PM-WIN, the desktop window
  212.           management system, is now available in 32-bit code to make front of
  213.           screen response significantly better.  The Workplace Shell is
  214.           enhanced to open objects faster, populate folders faster and load
  215.           applications faster.  The system is page tuned to ensure that the
  216.           most frequently used pages are in memory when needed, reducing the
  217.           amount of swapping to the hard disk.  There is an option in the
  218.           WinOS2 setup folder called Fast Load that basically preloads and
  219.           starts a Windows virtual machine so that Windows application programs
  220.           load very quickly.
  221.           ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR DISPLAYS
  222.           The OS/2 V3 package now includes 32-bit device drivers supporting the
  223.           graphics accelerator chips found on leading personal systems and
  224.           graphics adapters, such as Actix, Boca Research, Diamond, Number
  225.           Nine, Orchid, and others.
  226.                  IBM has added new device drivers for these chip sets, in
  227.           addition to the IBM XGA (R), XGA-2, IBM 8514, and S3 86C801/805/928
