^1^^14-02^Written by Murray Moffatt
Two miles outside the small town of Sleepyville sits
a very old, very large, and very spooky house. This
house is reputed to be haunted by the ghost of its
last owner, and nobody ^B^ever^N^ goes there for fear
of meeting this ghost!
Local folklore tells a tale of gold, betrayal, and
murder. Somewhere in the house, so the story goes,
is a fortune in gold coins, but it is protected by
the ghost of One-Eyed Jack.
Do you dare to enter this house and search for the
gold? ^:Enter=Yes^ ^:Chicken=No^

Aww, come on, don't chicken out already!
Are you sure you don't want to enter the haunted
house?
^:Chicken2=I'm too scared!^ ^:Enter=Oh, alright then^

^LChicken2^
Ok, if you build up some courage then come back and
try again!
^2^^END=BYE!^

^LEnter^
^R^ Location: Gates ^N^
It is a dark and stormy night, with the wind howling
through the trees, as you park your car outside the
locked gates of the old house. Picking up your torch
you squeeze through a hole in the gates and walk up
the long driveway towards the desolate house.
The gravel scrunches beneath your feet as you make
your way towards the front of the house.
Do you want to go to the ^:Front=front door^ or make your way
around to ^:Side=the side^ of the house?
^eop^
^LFront^
^R^ Location: Front door ^N^
You climb the rickety old stairs at the front of the
house and examine the front door. It appears to be
locked and has several planks of wood nailed to it.
Do you want to try and ^:OpenFront=open the door^ or go around to
^:Side=the side^ of the house?
^eop^
^LOpenFront^
^R^ Location: Front door ^N^
You try to open the front door but it won't budge.
You bang loudly on the door and examine it closely
with your flash light.
Do you want to ^:Police=continue banging^ at the door or go
around to ^:Side=the side^ of the house?
^eop^
^LPolice^
^R^ Location: Front door ^N^
All your banging noises and the light from your torch
have attracted the attention of a passing police
officer!
He wants to know what you're doing here.
What do you tell him?
"^:Arrest=I'm treasure hunting^"
"^:Lost=I'm lost, can you tell me where I am?^"
"^:Arrest=Get lost, pig!^"
^eop^
^LArrest^
^R^ Location: Police station ^N^
The policeman has arrested you!
After much explaining the police chief decides to let
you off with a warning.
You go home and swear to never go near that house
again!
^2^^END=The End!^
^eop^
^LLost^
^R^ Location: Front door ^N^
The police officer explains to you how to find your
way back to town. You thank him and he leaves.
You ponder the situation. Should you continue trying
to get in ^OpenFront:=the front door^, or go around to ^:Side=the side^ of
the house?
^eop^
^LSide^
^R^ Location: Side of house ^N^
You walk along the side of the house, searching for a
means of entrance. Eventually you spy a small window
that probably leads to the cellar of the house.
Getting down on your hands and knees you examine the
window and find that it isn't locked! You push it
open and peer inside, but it's pitch dark and you
can't see anything.
Do you want to ^:EnterWindow=climb in^ the window or ^:NoEnt=continue^
walking around the house?
^eop^
^LNoEnt^
^R^ Location: Front of house ^N^
You've walked around the whole house and haven't
found any way in (apart from the window you found at
the side of the house).
You're now at the front of the house. Do you want to
^:Front=try the front door^ or walk around ^:Side=the side^ of the
house?
^eop^
^LEnterWindow^
^R^ Location: Cellar ^N^
You climb through the small window and find yourself
in the cellar of the house. Shining your torch about
you find that you're in a small room and everything
is covered in dust and cobwebs. It looks like nobody
has been here for over a hundred years!
At the back of the room are some planks leaning up
against the wall, while at the opposite end are some
stairs leading up.
Do you want to ^:Planks=investigate the planks^ or ^:Stairs=go up^ the
stairs?
^eop^
^LPlanks^
^R^ Location: Cellar, near some planks ^N^
You walk over to the planks and kick them away with
your foot. Behind them is a small alcove, with the
opening covered in cobwebs.
You wonder whether you should ^:Skel=investigate further^ or
turn back and ^:Stairs=go up the stairs^?
^eop^
^LSkel^
^R^ Location: Cellar, near a small alcove ^N^
You brush the cobwebs away with your torch. "Yuck!"
you hate cobwebs!
You peer into the gloom but can't see much. Bringing
your torch around and shining it into the alcove you
suddenly jump back in fright as you see a skull
grinning back at you!
^2^
^19-07^^"@skull1"^
^19-08^^"@skull2"^
^1^^01-11^
Regaining your composure you inspect the skeleton and
find a chain around its neck. Attached to the chain
is a small locket, which you fumble to open.
^:Locket=Continue^
^eop^
^LLocket^
^R^ Location: Cellar, next to a skeleton ^N^
You manage to get the locket open and inside you find
a small piece of paper. Unfolding the paper you read
the number "847" written on it, and then the paper
crumbles to dust in your hands!
With a shudder you turn from the grinning skeleton
and ^:Stairs=walk towards the stairs^.
^eop^
^LStairs^
^R^ Location: Cellar, on stairs ^N^
Each step you take brings you closer to the closed
door at the top of the stairs, and each step creates
an ear-splitting creak that would wake the dead!
Sucking in your breath you continue your way up the
stairs until you reach the top.
Slowly you push the door open and peer into the gloom
beyond. What you see appears to be a kitchen.
Taking a gulp you ^:Kitchen=walk through the doorway^.
^eop^
^LKitchen^
^R^ Location: Kitchen ^N^
Looking around the room you see that you're in an old
fashioned kitchen. There's a large chopping table in
the middle of the room, and pots hang from hooks
along one wall.
On the back wall hangs several large knives, and
looking down you see a dark stain on the ground.
Do you ^:Stain=kneel down^ to examine the strange stain or
^:Knives=walk towards the knives^?
^eop^
^LKnives^
^R^ Location: Kitchen ^N^
You take a step towards the knives hanging on the
back wall of the kitchen. Noticing some movement you
shine your torch at them. A glint of light appears
and you squint to make out what it is.
"What ^B^is^N^ that?" you ask.
Slowly your mind comprehends what you're looking at:
a knife floating in mid-air and pointing directly at
you!
Instincts take over and you begin to duck, but it's
too late; the knife races through the air towards
you...
^:Hospital=Continue^
^eop^
^LStain^
^R^ Location: Kitchen ^N^
You bend down to examine the dark stain on the floor.
^B^ Z I N G !^N^
A knife whizzs past, barely missing your head and
burying itself into the opposite wall!
Turning back to the stain you see that it's dried
blood, probably the blood from the last person to
venture into this house and didn't manage to escape
the knives!
Staying on your hands and knees to avoid the knives,
you ^:Dining=make your way towards the doorway^.
^eop^
^LDining^
^R^ Location: Dining room ^N^
With some relief you get to your feet and find that
you're now in the dining room of the house.
Looking more closely at the long dining room table
you see that each place is set with china plates,
cutlery and crystal glasses.
"Strange," you think to yourself.
Do you ^:Kitchen=go back^ to the kitchen or ^:Hall=continue through^ to
the next room?
^eop^
^LHall^
^R^ Location: Hallway ^N^
You're now in the entrance way to the house. Behind
you is the front door.
You can go:
^:HallUp=Up the stairs^ to the second floor.
Back to the ^:Dining=dining room^.
Through to the ^:Bath=bathroom^.
^eop^
^LBath^
^R^ Location: Bathroom ^N^
This is a very old fashioned bathroom, with a big old
bathtub. A reddish looking liquid is dripping from a
tap. You move closer to see what it is...
"It's blood!" you yelp.
Then, looking closer, you see that it's just rusty
water.
"Phew!" you sigh, and turning back to the hallway you
notice a strange glowing mist floating past the
bathroom door!
Do you ^:StayBath=stay in the bathroom^ or ^:Hall=go back out^ into the
hallway?
^eop^
^LStayBath^
^R^ Location: Bathroom (still!) ^N^
You stay in the bathroom, shivering with fright in
your boots!
Do you ^:StayBath=stay in the bathroom^ or ^:Hall=go back out^ into the
hallway?
^eop^
^LHallUp^
^R^ Location: Hall stairway ^N^
You walk up the stairs, carefully avoiding the holes
and trying to be as quite as possible (although
you're not quite sure what it is that you don't want
to disturb!)
At the top of the stairs is a small landing, with two
doors leading to the ^:Master=master^ and ^:Second=second^ bedrooms.
^eop^
^LMaster^
^R^ Location: Master bedroom ^N^
This is a ^B^seriously^N^ scary place! There's what
appears to be blood dripping down the walls, and a
wailing sound coming from the closet door!!
Do you ^:Landing=run back^ onto the landing or ^:Closet=open the closet^
door?
^eop^
^LLanding^
^R^ Location: Landing on second floor ^N^
You're back on the landing. Do you want to go into
the ^:Master=master bedroom^, or into the ^:Second=second bedroom^?
^eop^
^LCloset^
^R^ Location: Master bedroom, near a closet ^N^
You walk over to the closet. Holding your breath
(and gripping your torch as a club) you throw open
the closet door.
A brilliant white light floods out nearly blinding
you. After a while this changes to a rainbow of
colours, all swirling around in a spiral. It looks
fascinating and mesmerizing.
Do you ^:Closet2=walk into the closet^ or ^:Landing=return to the landing^?
