  4. Simple Charts and Diagrams
  5.  
  6. A picture is worth one thousand words! Simple charts and diagrams can rapidly
  7. convey information. If you want to communicate structure, logical 
  8. relationships, or organization, the Chart application can help. It lets you
  9. sketch out a chart on your Psion 3a. You can save, restore and edit this 
  10. information as required. When you need hard copy, or integration of the
  11. resulting information into other documents, transfer the compact Chart file 
  12. to a Windows 3.n platform, and print or combine with other programs using 
  13. the supplied Windows utility. The process is as straightforward as backing 
  14. up your Psion.

  17. Installation
  18. ============

  20. Copy CHART.OPA to the APP directory of your internal drive using your
  21. preferred transfer protocol. There are no further files to be copied. Install
  22. the application with Psion-I. When you first run Chart a directory will be
  23. created on your internal drive \CHT\, as a preferred location for Chart
  24. files, which are given the extension .CHT by Chart.

  26. Basic Use

  29. Adding Boxes
  30. ============

  32. Move the cursor about the screen using the arrow keys. Use of the Psion key
  33. amplifies the effect of these keys. Insert a new box using Enter or Psion-L.
  34. This will provide a dialogue box with fields for text and the style of box
  35. required. You can enter multiple lines within one box by incorporating '\'
  36. characters to delineate line ends. The following styles are supported:

  41. Changing Boxes

  44. Move the cursor to the selected box and press Enter or Psion-C. A dialogue
  45. box of the current attributes for the selected box is displayed. Any changes
  46. are immediately imposed on the diagram.

  49. Deleting Boxes
  50. ==============

  52. Move the cursor to the selected box and press Delete or Psion-D. The
  53. selected box is removed from the diagram.

  56. Connecting Boxes

  59. To connect two boxes move the cursor to the centre of the first box, press
  60. and hold Shift, and move the cursor to the second box. Whilst still holding
  61. Shift press Enter. The connection will be made.

  64. Disconnecting Boxes
  65. ===================

  67. To disconnect two boxes move the cursor to the centre of the first box,
  68. press and hold Shift, and move the cursor to the second box. Whilst still
  69. holding Shift press Enter. Chart will disconnect the two boxes. This is the
  70. same procedure as connecting two boxes (Chart recognizes that a connection
  71. already exists and deletes this existing connection).

  74. Moving Boxes

  77. To move a box, move the cursor to that box. Press and hold Shift, and whilst
  78. holding down Shift, move the cursor to the new position. The box will be
  79. moved to the new cursor position.

  82. Displaying Arrows
  83. =================

  85. You can highlight the direction in which connections have been made using the
  86. display of arrows. This is toggled under Special, Psion-R.

  89. Installing the WinChart Windows Utility
  90. =======================================

  92. WINCHART.EXE should be copied to a convenient location on your Windows
  93. machine. Use 'Drag-and-Drop' in the File Manager to add the WINCHART.EXE 
  94. to a convenient (or new) Program Group in the Program Manager. WINCHART is 
  95. started by double clicking on its icon. Chart files can be opened, printed 
  96. and cut and paste using the standard Windows protocols.

  101. Chart is shareware. The registration fee is US$15 or 10 Pounds UK and should
