- Palmeta Software announces availability of the Beta 3 version
- of Palmeta Mail 1.5 with support for Netscape Navigator Mail
- =============================================================
-
-
- December 22, 1996
- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
-
-
- Palmeta Software today announced the availability of the Beta 3
- version of Palmeta Mail v1.5. Palmeta Mail v1.5 is an upgrade to
- Palmeta's software product that email-enables the U.S. Robotics Pilot
- palmtop PDA by providing a bridge between the user's existing
- electronic mail systems on their Windows 95 desktop PC and the Pilot's
- Memo Pad application.
-
-
- Netscape Navigator Mail Support
-
- In addition to the features previously available in Palmeta Mail v1.0,
- the new version provides support for Netscape Navigator 3.0 Mail.
- Users of Netscape Navigator 3.0 can now enjoy the same email
- connectivity from their Pilot that Palmeta Mail brought to users of
- MAPI enabled email systems like Microsoft Exchange and Eudora Pro v3.0.
-
- The Beta 3 release contains several minor bug fixes, and one major
- functional improvement: Outgoing messages from the Pilot are word-
- wrapped to improve their appearance in the recipient's email reader.
- In earlier versions, users had to manually insert line endings.
-
- HotSync Manager 1.1 Support
-
- This release of Pameta Mail also includes support for Palm Computing's
- newly released HotSync Manager v1.1. This upgrade to the HotSync
- Manager, available from Palm Computing, resolves several issues with
- HotSync v1.0. Palmeta Mail automatically configures itself for correct
- operation with either HotSync v1.0 or HotSync v1.1.
-
-
- About the Beta Evaluation Version
-
- The Beta Evaluation version of Palmeta Mail v1.5 is a 30 day
- try-before-you-buy evaluation version of the final product. It will
- transfer only a limited number of messages to and from the Pilot,
- but otherwise is fully featured. Please install it on your desktop
- and give it a try! And tell your fellow Pilot users they can download
- a copy at www.palmeta.com.
-

-
-
- System Requirements
-
- Palmeta Mail v1.5 requires a Windows 95 or WIndows NT PC with Pilot
- Desktop v1.0 or v1.1 and a Pilot HotSync cradle installed.
-
- You must also have a working email system on your PC. This version of
- Palmeta Mail includes expanded mail system choices. In addition to
- the previous support for MS Exchange/Windows Messaging and Eudora Pro
- v3.0, Palmeta Mail v1.5 will transfer mail via Netscape Navigator 3.0
- and Navigator Gold 3.0
-
- A version of Microsoft Exchange (now known as Windows Messaging) is
- shipped as part of Windows 95, and is compatible with Palmeta Mail.
- Eudora Pro Version 3.0 is also be compatible with Palmeta Mail.
- Users of Eudora Pro v2.2 can send mail from the Pilot, but due to
- technical limitations, Eudora Pro v2.2 cannot transfer mail to the
- Pilot.
-
- Mircosoft Exchange users will need Microsoft's Internet Mail extension
- for Microsoft Exchange to send and receive mail across the Internet.
- This is not included with Windows 95, but it is available for no charge
- at many places on the World Wide Web, including Microsoft's official
- download site at:
-
- www.microsoft.com/windows/software/inetmail.htm
-
- The Internet Mail extension is also available as part of Microsoft
- Plus, a companion CD for Windows 95.
-
- Palmeta Mail v1.5 works with many existing Exchange-compatible email
- systems, including Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Fax, Microsoft Internet
- Mail (available on the Microsoft Plus CD), and Lotus Notes v4. (Other
- MAPI service providers probably work, too, but we haven't tested
- them yet.)
-
-
-
- Installation Instructions
-
- 1. Unzip the Evaluation kit to a temporary directory.
-
- 2. Run SETUP.EXE to install Palmeta Mail.
-
- 3. IMPORTANT: Run Palmeta Mail to complete the installation and
- establish your option settings.
-
- 4. IMPORTANT: Terminate and restart the HotSync program to make HotSync
- aware of Palmeta Mail. (You only need to do steps 3 and 4 once,
- when you install.)
-
- Once you have completed these steps, HotSync will transfer your mail
- to the Pilot according to the options you have selected.
-
- You can change your options settings at any time by running the Palmeta
- Mail program.
-
- We recommend you print out and review this file ("readme.txt"), and
- the User's Guide, which is in the file "Palmeta Mail.doc".
-
-
-
- Uninstalling Palmeta Mail
-
- ***Important Uninstall Instructions***: Should you ever choose to
- uninstall Palmeta Mail, you must perform one action before running
- the Windows Uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel:
-
- Before you uninstall Palmeta Mail, you must run the Palmeta Mail
- program and deselect both the "Send outgoing mail" and "Receive
- incoming mail" options.
-
- This will give Palmeta Mail the opportunity to correctly remove itself
- from your PCÆs System Registry and keep all your other Pilot conduits
- working correctly.
-
- If you do not follow these instructions, your Memo Pad will not Hot
- Sync to the PC after the uninstall. To fix this, simply reinstall
- Palmeta Mail, run the Palmeta Mail program, deselect the two options
- as detailed above, then uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs Control
- Panel. Your Memo Pad will HotSync correctly after you follow these
- steps.
-
-
-
- Using Palmeta Mail
-
- For information on setting up and using Palmeta Mail, please see the
- Palmeta Mail User's Guide, which is provided in the file
- "Palmeta Mail.doc" in this distribution kit. We encourage you to print
- out and review the User's Guide before installing Palmeta Mail.
