WinFax PRO 8.0 Symantec Corporation
Macro README Notes February 28, 1997
=============================================================
This document outlines the issues related to WinFax
macros. WinFax macros add fax commands to other programs so
you can convert documents to faxes easier and faster. The
macros included with WinFax are designed for Corel
WordPerfect, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Lotus
Ami Pro.
To install a macro:
1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Programs,
then to WinFax PRO, and then click WinFax Macro Installer.
2. Click the macros you want to install and then click
Install.
NOTE TO EXCEL USERS - During the WinFax installation, Excel
macro files are installed if the Setup program detects that
Excel is installed on your computer. To use the Excel macro,
see the Excel section in this document.

Corel WordPerfect 7 Macro
=========================
The WordPerfect macro is a new feature in WinFax 8.0.
Known issue:
- the WordPerfect print and merge macros are now available
in this release
For more information about installing the WordPerfect
macro, see the WPWIN7.TXT file in the MACROS subfolder
of the WinFax installation folder.
===================================================
Microsoft Excel 5.0, Excel 7.0, and Excel 97 Macros
===================================================
Features now supported:
- this macro is now available as an Excel Add-In
- DDE support
- support for faxing Excel workbooks
- WinFax Controller is now available
Known problems:
- wfxTime field must be formatted as Text (do not format
the cell as General)
- wfxDate field must be formatted as Text (do not format
the cell as General)
SETTING UP THE MACRO - During installation, the WinFax Setup
program identifies the most current version of Excel
installed on your computer and copies the appropriate macro
file (WFX7_XL5.XLA, WFX7_XL7.XLA, or WFXXL97.XLA) to the
LIBRARY subfolder in the corresponding Excel folder.
USING THE MACRO - If you want to use the Excel macro, click
Add-Ins on the Excel Tools menu and select the WinFax option.
The WinFax command appears on the File menu in Excel. To
send a fax, click the WinFax command. The macro records the
current print driver, switches to the WinFax printer driver,
and then searches the current document for the following
field values:
wfxInfo necessary placeholder for information (required)
wfxFaxNum fax number
wfxTime scheduled send time
wfxDate scheduled send date
wfxRecipient recipient's name
wfxSubject user-defined information
wfxKeyword user-defined information
wfxBillcode user-defined information
wfxMode delivery method
If the macro locates the wfxFaxNum field, it continues
searching for the remaining field values and stores this
information using the wfxInfo field. The macro then displays
the Print dialog. Select the appropriate print options and
click OK to print the document to WinFax. Do not change the
printer driver. After printing, the original printer driver
is restored.
If the macro cannot find the wfxFaxNum field, the Excel
Print dialog appears. Select the appropriate print options
and click OK to print the document to WinFax. Address the
fax, select any other appropriate options, and then click
Send to fax the document. Do not change the printer driver.
After faxing, the original printer driver is restored.

fax is:
+Country Code (Area Code) Local Number
For example, +1 (416) 555-1212
Faxing Mail Merge Notes:
------------------------
You can fax a mail merge document created in Microsoft
Word 97 to multiple recipients. To fax a mail merge:
1. Create the mail merge document.
2. Set up the merge document in Word.
3. Print the merged document to WinFax.
Notes:
a Familiarize yourself with how Word mail merges work before
attempting a fax/mail merge with WinFax. For more
information, see your Word documentation.
b Any dial prefix (for example, "9" for an outside line) must
be set up in WinFax, not added to the mail merge database.
c Do not use fillable cover pages in WinFax. Ensure that the
Preview/Annotate option is disabled in WinFax. (On the
Setup menu, click Send, then disable Allow Me To Preview
And Annotate Faxes).
d You can create a mail merge phone number database when you
create the mail merge, or you can link the mail merge to
an existing database. Word 7.0 can use the following types
of database files: ASCII, Excel spreadsheets, Schedule
Plus contact lists, and Exchange address books.
e The phone information in the database must include the
phone number, including the long distance or international
access code (usually "1" or "011", respectively), and the
area code, where required.
f When applying fax merge styles to tables, you can use the
following fax merge WFX styles:
WFX style Description
---------------------------------------------------
<<wfxFaxNum>> Fax number (47 characters maximum)
<<wfxRecipient>> Recipient's name (31 character maximum)
<<wfxTime>> Transmit time (HH:MM:SS time format
