Gold-Fax Server README.TXT
--------------------------------------------
Pre-Installation setup
Before installing the Gold-Fax Server, an account must be created
that will be used to login the Gold-Fax services.
From the Administrator account on the domain where the Gold-Fax
Server will be running, invoke the "User Manager for Domains" icon
in the Administrative Tools group. Under User, select "New Users..."
and enter the username GOLDFAX. Fill in the full name as "Gold-Fax
Service account" enter a password. Remember this password because
it will be required for the Gold-Fax Server installation procedure.
Turn on (check) the "Password never expires" checkbox and turn off
(uncheck) all the other checkboxes. Select OK to create the user.
--------------------------------------------
Installation
Run SETUP.EXE to install the Gold-Fax Server Software.
When setup displays the "Gold-Fax Service Account" dialog
box, verify the Service Account field contains the correct
account "domain\GOLDFAX" and enter the password for this
account. The installation procedure creates three Gold-Fax services
and this account and password is used to login these services.
************
Now reboot the system.
After rebooting, use File Manager to create a share on the Server installation
directory (defaults to C:\GOLDFAX_NT). The share name should be named
"GoldFax". You create the share by highlighting the C:\GOLDFAX_NT directory
and select "Share As" from the Disk menu in File Manager. Change the Share Name
to GOLDFAX and select OK. Although is not required, you may wish to
restrict write access to the Gold-Fax Server directory to prevent general users
from modifing files in the directories. This can be done by setting permissions on
the share or setting permissions on the directory.
Permissions on the GOLDFAX Share
Select Permissions from the "Share As" dialog box for the GOLDFAX share.
Change the "Type of Access" for Everyone to Read and then select the Add...
button. Select the Show Users button, scroll to the GOLDFAX account,
select the Add button and set the type of access to Full Control. We also
recommend adding the Domain Admins group to have Full control of this share.
This allows users in the Domain Admins group to modify the system phonebook
and perform modifications using the Gold-Fax Manager and Receive Router
programs. Select OK from the "Add Users and Groups", OK from "Access
Through Share Permissions", and OK from the "Shared Directory" dialog boxes.
Permissions on the C:\GOLDFAX_NT directory
If you are installing Gold-Fax Server to an NTFS volume, you
may elect to set permissions on the Server directory rather than on
the Share. Use Security, Permissions from the File Manager and
set the permissions as described above. Check the Replace Permissions
on Subdirectories to include the entire Gold-Fax Server directory
tree when changing permissions.
--------------------------------------------
Queue Setup
Use the "Printers" icon to create the queues: GFAX_HP and GFAX_SEND
GFAX_HP
Choose "Create Printer", type GFAX_HP under printer name, choose
"HP LaserJet III" in the Driver field, and select "Other..." from
the "Print to:" pull down. Select "Gold-Fax Ports" and choose OK.
In the Select Gold-Fax Port Type dialog box, select HP for the
Port type. Choose OK from the Select Gold-Fax Port Type dialog box.
Choose the Details button and turn off (un-check) the "Delete jobs
after printing" option. Choose OK from the Printer Details dialog box.
Check "Share this printer on the network" and verify the share name
is GFAX_HP. Choose OK from Create Printer dialog box.
GFAX_SEND
Choose "Create Printer", type GFAX_SEND under printer name, choose
"HP LaserJet III" in the Driver field, and select "Other..." from
the "Print to:" pull down. Select "Gold-Fax Ports" and choose OK.
In the Select Gold-Fax Port Type dialog box, select Modem for the
Port type and select the COM port the modem is conneced to.
On the Modem tab, set the modem type. Choose OK on this tabbed
dialog box. Choose the Details button and turn off (un-check)
the "Delete jobs after printing" option. Choose OK on both dialog
boxes.
Note that all of the "Gold-Fax" dialog boxes can be changed after
the printer is created by choosing "Settings..." from the Printer
Properties dialog box.
---------------------------------
Additional Installation Setup using Gold-Fax Manager
The Gold-Fax Manager program icon is automatically created by setup
in the Gold-Fax Server group. To finish the Gold-Fax installation,
this program must be used to define the server network address and the
users that will run the Gold-Fax client software.
Server Network Address
Select the Server tab and fill in the one or more of the addresses
in the dialog box.
Examples:
TCP/IP: 204.17.211.14 <- Server TCP/IP address
NetBIOS over NETBEUI: P100 <- Server node name
You may select the Test button to determine if the address is correct
and can communicate with the Gold-Fax Server service.
Gold-Fax Client Users
Select the Users tab in the Gold-Fax Managers program.
The left list box displays available users in the current domain.
Highlight the users that will be running the Gold-Fax client software
and select the "Add ->" button. If you will be receiving
faxes through Gold-Fax, you may want to select one or more
to be receive fax routers. You can do this by selecting a user
and checking the "Receive Fax Routers" checkbox. A star will
display next to the user indicating they are a router. This means
that these users will see the Unrouted folder when displaying
the Received within the Gold-Fax client.
Note that the Gold-Fax Receive Router program in the Gold-Fax
Server group controls how received faxes are handled.
---------------------------------
Microsoft Mail Notification when sending a fax
If you will be using Mail (MS-Mail) notification when sending a fax,
you must:
* Log in to the GOLDFAX account and connect drive M to your Microsoft Mail
postoffice.
* Log in to the Administrator account and create a Microsoft Mail GOLDFAX
mailbox using the ADMIN.EXE program. Set the password as "goldfax" for
the mailbox.
---------------------------------
Microsoft Exchange Notification when sending a fax
If you will be using MS-Exchange to receive your Gold-Fax mail notifications,
you must:
* Add "Domain Admins" privilege to the Gold-Fax service account.
* Add a "GoldFax" to the list of Exchange recipients.
* Log in to the Gold-Fax service account and using the Microsoft Exhcange Setup
Wizard, create a profile named GOLDFAX.
If you install Gold-Fax NT Server on multiple nodes and want mail
notification, you may need to create separate mailboxes for the
send service to use to send mail. Contact DPD for more information.
---------------------------------
Printing received faxes to network printers
Windows NT has a bug where received faxes cannot be routed to
a printer on another node using \\node\queue from a Service.
The workaround is to define a local printer on the server that point
to the remote queue with the UNC name \\node\queue. This is done
by selecting the appropriate Driver and selecting Other.. in the Print To:
field and selecting local port. Enter the UNC path name to the remote
printer and select OK.
---------------------------------
Scheduling Cleanup of Send and Receive Databases
The batch procedure C:\GOLDFAX_NT\SUBMIT_CLEANUP.BAT
schedules the command procedure CLEANUP.BAT to run every
Tuesday and Friday nights to compress the Send and Receive
status files. This procedure requires the Schedule service
to be running on the server system before invoking
SUBMIT_CLEANUP.BAT. In Control Panel, select Services,
and scroll down to the Schedule service.
Press Startup... and change the service to Automatic.
If you would like the cleanup procedure to notify by mail,
the schedule service must be logged into an Account
such as the GOLDFAX account.
Select OK and then select Start in the Services dialog box.
To schedule the CLEANUP.BAT to run, type:
C:\GOLDFAX_NT\SUBMIT_CLEANUP
You may edit C:\GOLDFAX_NT\CLEANUP.BAT to change the
length of time before expiring sent or received faxes.
You may also want to add a -mail option to mail you
the log of the cleanup procedure when it runs.
If you want to be notified by mail, you must login the
schedule service with an account with administrator
privileges and, if using MS-Mail the account connects drive
letter M to the mail postoffice.
---------------------------------
Uninstalling Server Software
Select the UnInstall icon or from the Control panel Add/Remove
programs, remove the Gold-Fax Server item and then Reboot.
After rebooting, delete the file:
\WINNT??\SYSTEM32\GFMON.DLL
---------------------------------
Configuring Gold-Fax Server to support Netware clients
For Gold-Fax Server to support Netware clients, the clients must be able
to see the GoldFax_NT installation directory on the NT Server and use a
supported network protocol.
Directory Access:
For the directory access, you may need to install the File and Print Services
for Netware on your NT server.
Network Connection:
If TCP/IP is installed on all the clients, then verify the the TCP/IP field
is filled in properly on the Server tab in the Gold-Fax Manager program.
If some or all of your Netware clients do not have TCP/IP, SPX can be
used. This requires the NT Server to have the Gateway Services for
Netware installed (or Client Services for Netware if running server on
an NT Workstation). It also requires the SPX: field on the Server tab
in the Gold-Fax Manager program to be filled in with the correct
IPX address. This address is of the form:
~XXXXXXXXYYYYYYYYYYYY
XXXXXXXX is the server's network address (such as 00006112).
This is the internal network number on the NWLINK IPX/SPX Protocol
Configuration dialog box. You get to this on Control Pane, Network,
select NWLINK IPX/SPX Compatible Transport and select Configure.
YYYYYYYYYYYY is the node address (such as AA0060060A28)
This can be found by running the Windows NT Diagnostics program in the
Adminstrators group, selecting Network... and finding the NWLink Address
under transports. Note that the address must begin with a ~ such
as:
~00006112AA0060060A28
-----------------------------
SMS Installation
The ???.PDF file contains commands to Install, ReInstall, and DeInstall
the Gold-Fax Server software. Before using SMS to install the server software,
the SETUP.ISS file must be modified to correctly set a service account and
password for the Gold-Fax services. Modify the fields "AccountName="
and "Password=" fields to set your desired service account and password.
After installation, you can modify the server account and password from
the Services icon in the control panel. Select each of the Gold-Fax services,
select the "Startup..." button, and modify the account information.
After installing the server software, the target system must be rebooted.
