  5. INSTALLATION
  6. ------------
  7. Just run the included Setup.exe program.  We have 
  8. different versions to run on 16-bit and 32-bit 
  9. systems.  It is appropriate to install into either
  10. \clipmt40 or \program files\clipmt40
  11. but we do not recommend installing into the same
  12. directory as a pre-existing ClipMate 2.x or 3.x 
  13. version.  Also, you can install both the 16 and 
  14. 32-bit versions, but they must reside in separate
  15. directories (they can share a data directory, 
  16. however.)

  18. RE-INSTALLATION
  19. ---------------
  20. If you are installing this version over the top 
  21. of a previous build of ClipMate 4 (including beta)
  22. then here are some common questions:
  23. Q: Will my existing ClipMate 4 registration number
  24.    continue to work?
  25. A: YES - the registration is kept in CLIPMT40.INI,
  26.    which is preserved.
  27.    (provided that you HAVE previously registered
  28.    version 4)
  29.  
  30. Q: Will my data be overwritten or deleted?
  31. A: No - the install only replaces files with updated
  32.    ones - no deleting is performed.
  33.  
  34. Q: Should I uninstall the old one first?
  35. A: No need - just install over the top of what's there.
  36.  
  37. Q: What about version 3.x registration numbers, will
  38.    they work?
  39. A: No - you need to upgrade.

  45. > ClipMate would sometimes stop capturing if left on 
  46.   past 12:00 AM.  This was due to some errant date 
  47.   logic which protects against duplicates.  Fixed.
  48. > The Picker window would have problems with empty 
  49.   data - fixed.
  50. > A hard-coded pathname made it problematic to move 
  51.   ClipMate to a different drive or diectory - fixed.
  52. > The main menu was missing an underscore for the 
  53.   Config menu item.
  54. > Added "Are You Sure" prompt to the Delete All 
  55.   function.
  56. > The Appliation Profile is now a little "smarter", 
  57.   as it now knows about WordPerfect 7.

  61. > Bitmaps were not being properly de-allocated from memory
  62.   when they weren't the current active item.  Fixed.
  63. > Build 83 had the main window a few pixels to short 
  64.   vertically, which caused the bottom edge of the window 
  65.   to be chopped a little.  (cosmetic)

  69. > Fixed GPF that occurred when you invoked Collection
  70.   Management dialog from right-click menu in the
  71.   Activate Collection drop-down list.
  72. > Fixed problem with Application Profiles, which prevented
  73.   profiles from being built for the Win95 Explorer.
  74. > Altered work-around for Brian Quinon's Spell program.

  77. Known Problems:
  78. ---------------
  79. There are several known problem that exist on some
  80. systems.  We are working on fixing them, but they are
  81. not severe enough to delay the launch.  Check our WWW
  82. page for updates.
  83.  
  84. > Help - Out Of Memory messages.
  85.   These are harmless errors that occur if you click
  86.   on a hypertext link, appearing in a pop-up help
  87.   window ("What's This" style help windows).  
  88.   We think that it's really a bug in the Help system,
  89.   and since the popup help does double-duty as part
  90.   of the regular help system, we don't really want
  91.   to remove the links, which are valuable when working
  92.   with the regular help system.   
  93. > Hotkey conflicts - The hotkeys (32-bit only) can
  94.   conflict with other applications, if the same keys
  95.   are used.  This usually affects F1..F12 or 
  96.   Shift+F1..Shift+F12.  Just turn them off, if they
  97.   cause trouble.
  98.   This has been known to affect WordPerfect, as well
  99.   as other word processors that make use of F-keys.
  100. > Phantom Icon - even though you choose for the icon
  101.   to go into the SysTray (Windows95 feature) there
  102.   may be another icon present at startup in the regular
  103.   taskbar.  This only affects some systems, and we 
  104.   are working on a fix.  We currently suspect that it
  105.   only happens on systems running Norton Navigator.  
  106.   If you find differently, please tell us.
  107. > Stay On Top option doesn't work when iconified in 
  108.   non-windows95-gui systems.
  109. > Tab Behavior Problem - 16-bit only.
  110.   Tab in User Prefs dialog gets 
  111.   fouled once you click into the Application Profile 
  112.   settings.  This is easily worked-around by simply
  113.   closing the dialog, and re-opening it.
  114.  
  115. Missing Features:
  116. -----------------
  117. There are several features from 3.1 that aren't currently 
  118. implemented, but will arrive in later builds:
  119.  > "sticky icon" - icon remembers position on screen (not yet
  120.    implemented)
  121.  > Icon Shows X when not capturing (not yet implemented)
  122.  > Control Menu (menu attached to icon) (not implemented)
  123.  Most of these are addressed in different ways when using
  124.  Windows95 / NT 4.0.
  125.  > DIB Bitmaps - ClipMate can't currently display them.  
  126.    We'll add this feature in a later release.

  128. Compatibility Notes:

  131.  Brian Quinon's Spell Program
  132.  ----------------------------
  133.  We are working with Brian on a permanent solution, but 
  134.  in the meantime, this is how you make ClipMate ignore
  135.  the Spell program, if you get errors in Spell:
  136.    add this line to your \windows_directory\clipmt40.ini file, 
  137.    at the end of the [CLIPMATE] section:
  138.        Ignore_MSGSRV32=1
  139.  
  140.  Microsoft Excel
  141.  ---------------
  142.  You may get "Can't Open Clipboard" errors from time to 
  143.  time, when copying.  This is due to some unfortunate
  144.  behavior in Excel.  We're going to discuss this with
  145.  Microsoft....
  146.  
  147. Distribution
  148. ------------
  149. This version does not have the required VENDINFO.DIZ and
  150. FILE_ID.DIZ files required for distribution.  Please do
  151. not distribute this release to other online services until
  152. we provide these files.
