He discovered the laws of motion, described the behavior of falling bodies and drew up the laws of ballistics. He also worked out the theory of the pendulum. It is a fitting tribute that a lunar crater has been named after him and also a large dark area on Jupiter's satellite Ganymede. The recent space probe to Jupiter has also been named in his honour.
