Transcription: At first, 1993 did not seem promising. In January, only one night out of the seven was clear, and in February their observing time was limited to one single hour. The weather improved in March, and the first clear night was pleasingly dark, but their work was affected by an unfortunate accident. During their observations, Eugene Shoemaker found that the photographic plates being used had been damaged by exposure to light. It would take six hours to prepare new plates and so the observers had to make a decision, use the damaged film or abandon observing altogether. They decided to continue. On ...
