Though Loki is remarkable, there are even larger volcanoes on Io. The record holder is Pele, named after the Hawaiian fire goddess. From here, volcanic material is ejected at speeds of up to one kilometre per second, travelling for distant distances of up to 1,400 km. Io is indeed a strange place. There are no impact craters.
