- ScreenShot Hack 1.4
-
- ScreenShot is the easy way to capture black/white, grayscale and color Palm
- screens as standard Windows bitmaps anywhere, anytime.
-
- Screenshot works on all PalmOS compatible devices and in all color modes.
-
- ScreenShot captures the current screen of any application. Black/white, 2-bit
- grayscale, 4-bit grayscale (on Palm IIIx, V, Vx...) and color (8 bit on Palm
- IIIc and 8 and 16 bit direct color on Visor Prism) screens are supported.
-
- To start the screenshot, enter one of three rarely used graffiti strokes:
-
- - the Graffiti stroke for 'next field', the down-up stroke (default)
- - the Graffiti stroke for 'previous field', the up-down stroke
- - the numeric keyboard popup (tap in the lower right corner of the Graffiti area)
-
- When the stroke is entered, ScreenShot will immediately capture anything that's
- currently on the display. Screenshot puts itself into the system event handler.
- This means you can capture screens from almost all applications and games.
-
- More information
-
- In some situations, e.g. when showing the built-in keyboard, the standard event
- handler is not used and thus the ScreenShot activation stroke can not be
- entered. In these cases, you can make delayed screenshots. Check the Delay
- checkbox and enter an appropriate number of seconds in the ScreenShot option
- panel. Then switch to the launcher or wherever the activation stroke is working
- and enter the ScreenShot activation stroke. Then proceed to the screen you want
- to capture. After the specified number of seconds, the current screen will be
- captured.
-
- ScreenShot is a Palm OS system extension and requires X-Master (included) or a
- similar extension (Hack) manager program. ScreenShot will not appear in the list
- of applications, but rather in the X-Master's list of system extension. You must
- activate ScreenShot in X-Master (check the checkbox) before you can use it.
-
- You can make multiple screenshots. ScreenShot stores all captured images in a
- database ScreenShotDB.pdb that will be backed up to your Desktop during the
- standard HotSync. Just make sure that you configured your HotSync for System:
- Handheld overwrites Desktop. You can preview your captures, remove the last
- capture or all captures from the database by going to X-Master and selecting the
- ScreenShot configuration panel.
-
- Converter
-
- A Windows program to convert the screenshots to BMP or GIF images is enclosed.
- Simply run the installer ScreenshotConverterSetup.exe.
-
- This will install a utility named ScreenshotConvert. exe to convert the
- ScreenShot database into a series of 160x160 16-color, 256-color, or 24-bit-
- color images. You can select BMP (Windows Bitmap) or GIF output file formats.
- GIF images will have the white color set as transparent and are stored
- interlaced, i.e. ready for the web. Since GIF only supports up to 8 bit color
- images 24 bit color images (e.g. captured in Visor Prism direct color mode) are
- always stored as BMP files. The images are consecutively named Screen00.bmp,
- Screen01.bmp and so forth. Existing files with that name will be overwritten.
-
- The converter will look for a file screenshotdb.pdb in the backup directory of
- the selected user. HotSync will normally place the backup of the screenshot
- database there. If, however, you specify a file name on the command line this
- file will be used instead.
-
- Apple Mac users can convert ScreenShot pictures with LemkeSoft's
- GraphicConverter.
-
- If you're running Linux or another Un*x version, you may want to try this Perl
- script for converting the Screenshot database into .xpm files. This script was
- written by Matthias Cramer and and improved by Martin Gisch and may be
- distributed under GPL.
