  5. Please read it carefully before using the program.

  13. Users of File Viewer must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  15. "File Viewer is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
  16. expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
  17. merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no
  18. liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from
  19. the use of File Viewer."

  21. File Viewer is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
  22. the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
  23. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
  24. essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
  25. users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
  26. incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
  27. find this program useful and find that you are using File Viewer and
  28. continue to use File Viewer after a reasonable trial period, you must
  29. make a registration payment of $9.95 to Maze Computer Communications.
  30. The $9.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  31. computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a
  32. book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
  33. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another,
  34. so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location
  35. while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  36. different persons at the same time.

  38. Commercial users of File Viewer must register and pay for their copies
  39. of File Viewer within 30 days of first use or their license is
  40. withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Maze
  41. Computer Communications.

  43. Anyone distributing File Viewer for any kind of remuneration must
  44. first contact Maze Computer Communications at the address below for
  45. authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to
  46. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  47. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering File
  48. Viewer immediately (However Maze Computer Communications must still be
  49. advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  50. version of File Viewer).

  84. Definition Of Shareware
  85. =======================

  87. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  88. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
  89. are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
  90. some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  91. maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  92. simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
  93. printed manual.

  95. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  96. the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  97. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  98. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
  99. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
  100. ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
  101. author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  102. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
  103. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  104. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  106. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
  107. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  108. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
  109. easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
  110. is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
  111. guarantee - if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  262.      2.0. Features will heavily depend on user's feedback.

  264.      We do not intend to add display of Windows or Windows
  265.      apps formats. The originators of those files will
  266.      always make a much better job of displaying them. There
  267.      will be no WinWord, Paintbrush or Excel file display.
  268.      What we do consider is low-level display of files in
  269.      various formats. For example PCX headers, BIFF records
  270.      or RIFF chunks. We also do consider display of ZIP
  271.      directories and NTFS/HPFS file attributes.

  299.      The following errors have been corrected:

  301.      o mouse pointer occasionally changed to an hourglass
  302.        and did not change back
  303.      o FVIEWDLL did not work with Windows For Workgroups
  304.      o window background was forced to white instead of
  305.        color defined in Control Panel
  306.      o find occasionally pointed one or more lines before
  307.        the line that contained the found data
  308.      
  309.      The following behaviour has been changed:
  310.      
  311.      o line highlighted by a left mouse button click or a
  312.        find (find next) command was unmarked at the first
  313.        scroll command. Now it will stay highlighted until
  314.        it scrolls off the window
  315.        Note: Currently the line is unmarked also when Fview
  316.        rereads the file to refill the display buffer (mouse
  317.        pointer momentarily changes to an hourglass). This
  318.        will be changed in a future version of the program.
  319.      o "find next" command now does not scroll the window
  320.        if the next occurrence of the search string is
  321.        currently visible

  325. Future Plans
  326. ============
  327. We do not intend to add display of Windows or Windows apps formats. The
  328. originators of those files will always make a much better job of displaying
  329. them. There will be no WinWord, Paintbrush or Excel file display. What we
  330. do consider is low-level display of files in various formats. For example PCX
  331. headers, BIFF records or RIFF chunks. We also do consider display of ZIP
  332. directories and NTFS/HPFS file attributes.

  334. Future plans for this program include the following items.  These are plans,
  335. They may get changed:  dropped if there is not enough interest - read
  336. registered users, or expanded according to user's feedback.  We reserve the
  337. right to change plans at our discretion without giving any reason.

  339. See Release Notes, for comments on file formats and bug fixes.  The Windows NT
  340. version is at this time source-level compatible with Windows 3.1 version but
  341. is compiled as native 32-bit WinNT application.  Some #ifdef magic was
  342. necessary to make this happen.  In future versions File View for Windows NT
  343. will support some NT specific features (long file names, NTFS gimmicks,
  344. Unicode etc.)

  346. This version (1.4) is most likely the last upgrade to the 16-bit version of
  347. the program. While we will continue to support it for some time, no new
  348. features are planned in the 16-bit version. The 32-bit version of FView 
  349. 1.4 works under the beta version of Windows 95 and will be corrected, if
  350. necessary, to work under the 32-bit Windows 95 when Windows 95 and the final
  351. version of Windows 95 SDK are released.
  352.  
  353. A "Quick View" file viewer version for Windows 95 is planned. This would be
  354. version 2.0 and would NOT be a free upgrade from versions 1.x.
